Even though this was a dark groove, "Grapevine" by Marvin is arguably one of the greatest records ever made.

My favorite song by Marvin ~ Think it was the beat ~ Soon as those first 2 notes broke, knew the song, up on our feet dancing ~ So popular, they made a TV commercial ~ Anybody remember The California Raisins ~ Singing, Dancing, Snapping their fingers to this song? ~ It was innovative and creative genius for its time ~ Would hear it on the TV and run to watch, amazed ~LOL ~ !

Funny you mention this. Excuse me but HELL YES I do.We did a dance production number in 89 at age 14 dressed up like California raisins to this song.🤣lol!

Twon, these old school Black singers/musicians were incredibly talented. They were copied and were the inspiration for American and British bands back in the day; they are the foundation for all genres of American music. Great to see you enjoying this music, what a legacy.

Two of Marvin's main influences as a singer were Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke. All three had similar voices, but not all sang in the same styles. One of Marvin's earliest albums was a tribute to the recently deceased Nat King Cole. It's not that difficult to imagine Sam Cooke singing Sexual Healing. Check out Marvin's "Here My Dear" album, it will blow your mind.

I have heard some Bleh songs from Motown. I used to buy "Best of" CDs in hopes of expanding my musical knowledge. (There were ways to do that cheaply in the '90s.) I got "The Best of The Shirelles" because I LOVED their "This is Dedicated to the One I Love", which I heard on a cereal commercial. And "The Best of Percy Sledge" because of LOVED "When a Man Loves a Woman". I was disappointed in the overall content of both of those "Best of" CDs. But, I wouldn't even remember the other songs on those CD to recommend them to you. However, if you haven't done "This is Dedicated to the One I Love", ya gotta! ya absolutely gotta! Surely you've reacted to "When a Man Loves a Woman" Right?
