This was an ENORMOUS worldwide hit. Great band, btw. Saw them here in Puerto Rico in the 80s and WILL NEVER FORGET Colin, the main singer, hoping like a kangaroo in the basketball court. Their single Overkill is an amazing gorgeus 80s classic to.

The funny thing for me about Men at Work is that back when I was a kid in the 80s, I just thought they were a silly band (as you saw in this video and any others you might check out, they're very funny). But as an adult, their songs like 'Overkill', 'Be Good Johnny', and 'Who Can It Be Now?' have such a darker edge for me now, especially in terms of things like anxiety, mental illness, introversion, isolation, etc. Definitely an underrated band!

Men At Work were a really talented band, Colin's voice is amazing, they were also quirky (which is very Australian). They had some really gorgeous meaningful songs, interspersed with songs like this, a bit of fun and silliness (while still being musically brilliant), we embrace our silliness down here, life's too short not to. For quite a few years this would get rolled out at international sporting events and such as our sort of theme song. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yep ! Bought this when it came out because it didn't sound like anything I'd heard before and then I saw the music video and that didn't look like anything I'd seen before lol. Very catchy song this, great vocals and fun to dance along to. Apparently it is the Australian National Anthem, the Aussies worship this song !

80’s had to be the most original decade of music. It was the decade where everything went out the window and new music rules were made. I don’t think there’s ever been a decade like it.

Big fun 80s hit. Their videos, from what I remember, were always a bit funny. 😅 Another good fun song by then: "Who can it be now?" "Be good Johnny", and "Overkill" also hits.

Loved seeing you enjoy yourself listening to another one of our Aussie exports. Vegemite is an acquired taste for sure which because we literally grow up eating it the majority like the taste. Foreigners, however, firstly tend to eat Vegemite the wrong way (ie too much of it and not enough butter on the toast) but it is pretty salty so we understand it's not for everyone (or many 😂😂).

My bad for not mentioning these guys! Another awesome Aussie import. We were spoiled in the 80s with some of the best Aussie bands. We already know and love INXS, but these guys were also pretty popular and then...oh goodness..then there is Midnight Oil. Have you gone there yet? PS, I've seen vegamite in the ethnic aisle of some markets, but much like Haggis...it's one of those things everyone says you won't like if you aren't from the homeland. 😫

I’ll add Midnight Oil to the list! And… perhaps I’ll just leave vegemite to my imagination then… 😂

@@PancakeMarshmallowDude 😂 i usually like to explore cuisine from around the world, but it's safe to say I'm too much of a chicken for those two. Here's a live Midnight Oil clip for you. If you want to check out a more commercial Oils, the official video for Beds Are Burning is a must. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apSWiWOFobudq6c

Australia had some great music in the 80's but not limited to: AC/DC, INXS, Men At Work, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Crowded House, Australian Crawl and many more. Check out Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil. It's their most accessible song (but not even in my top 5 of theirs 🤣)

PSA. Vegemite is 1000 times better on buttered toast and the trick is to spread it very thinly. A little goes a long long way!

Huge hit, i was in about 5th grade when this was huge, so a tad young to get it all. But still, good memory. Vegemite is a nasty yeast/spice spread. Iconic Aussie item, but gross.

@JOVONO3 жыл бұрын
Icehouse was like INXS as in they had their best songs in the late 80s with ‘Electric Blue’, ‘Crazy’ and ‘No Promises’ however had their cool and more fun songs in the early 80s Like their time as the Flowers with ‘We Can Get Together’ and ‘Can’t Help Myself’ and then the whole Icehouse album of Primitive Man is amazing

Vegiemite is yeast byproduct from beer breweries. Most Americans try vegiemite and they can't stand it, but that's cos you Americans layer it on too thick. Imagine something like wasabi, you wouldn't spread an inch thick layer of that on your food, that'd be suicide. If you get your hands on some vegiemite, grab a slice of bread or toast, butter it, and "very lightly" spread a thin covering of vegiemite over the bread/toast. But sadly although it's still an Australian icon, Vegmite is owned by the Chinese now. I guess that's ironic as the song is written about greed and industrialization of the rich buying up all the land.
