This Naon Yaon 2021 was Nemophila's first live after COVID and there were still restrictions in Japan that would still last for months. Before that they had only played together in a crowd setting a couple of times as the Mayu sessions band. They became Nemophila as they enjoyed playing together then COVID hit. With this concert there was no real crowd here. What you do see though is the ladies unleashed from their homes and studio which is why you see the big smiles. Mayu is the lead singer who has now developed her screams a little lower but generally has that range you hear in this live performance. Murata tamu is the highly skilled drummer. One of Japan's most wanted session drummers. Shredding guitarist Saki was the most famous as she was still with her band Mary's Blood whilst with Nemophila till Marys Blood went on hiatus. Saki is normally right of screen and in the headphones as well. She has left the band in April 2024 and has her own solo career releasing her own instrumentals which are cool. Hazuki is the other shredding guitarist. Very highly skilled as well. She is also in another band called KOIAI. Another freakishly skilled band. Hazuki is now the lead in Nemophila with Mayu helping out in some songs. The bassist is Haraguchi san. Great musician who has written Nemophila's 2 hardest songs "Zen" and "Brainwash". The band did have a music producer called Kensuke Akiyama who wrote and produced most of their big songs but in the process was teaching the band how to do this as well. He and Saki have done a great job. He also left the band when Saki did in April. Now the band will release their first album with a new producer called hico and all songs written by the band members. So far the 3 songs released off their new January 22nd 2025 new album "Apple of my Eye" have been freakin awesome. 🤘2 metal songs "Progress and "Brainwash" audio videos🤘 and a ballad with music video "Beautiful Days" Since the band formed Tamu got married and has two children and Mayu married and has one child. The song that hooked me on Nemophila first was their first music video called Raitei. Great track and the band plays a lot of variety and does heaps of covers for their fans. A lot during COVID and released on Fridays which is why fans call it Nemophila fridays. Kurenai by X-Japan and Shimi by Maximim the Hormone are two great covers to check out. The covers are a great way for us all to hear more Japanese bands we never heard of before. LOL I'm sure that's all you need right now.

Good info about Nemophila, but just to make sure that info about them especially on English-speaking y t is accurate: They played seven shows (the first two as “Mayu Session”) to live crowds before their appearance at Naon no Yaon ‘21. Also a great stream with Gacharic Spin and Keiko Terada of Show-Ya. And NnY21 wasn’t after Covid but right in the middle of it, with only performers and staff allowed on the premises and only after proof of negative test result for the disease.

Nemophila was 5 members, Saki left almost a year ago now. The bands current lineup is Mayu(vocals), Hazuki(guitarist), Haraguchi-san(bassist) and Tamu(drummer). Nemophila’s song “Zen” goes pretty hard. I’m glad you’re loving these Japanese bands, it’s nice to see them getting more exposure stateside. There are a lot more phenomenal bands from Japan and other parts of Asia.

I'm fairly new to Nemophila also. Mayu can get low, but she's better in the higher registers. Check out their cover of Linkin Parks "Given Up". Also, the 4 of them are already releasing killer new stuff. Brainwash is heavy AF! Keep up the good work man!

I saw Nemophila live in March, 2023 at Trees in Dallas. I took my daughter and granddaughter with me. In October, 2022, I took both of them to see Band-Maid at the Dallas House of Blues. They really enjoyed Band-Maid, but they absolutely fell in love with Nemophila. We were right at the stage on the right side, so I was right in front of Saki. Because it is not a big stage, Mayu was also very close to us. In addition to Nemophila, I have seen Lovebites, Hanabie and BabyMetal live. With all due respect to Asami, Yukina & Matsuri, and Suzuka, I consider Mayu to be the best all around female metal singer in Japan. She would definitely be in my top 10 female metal singers in the world. I love the combination of the banshee scream harsh vocals and the natural rock grit of her cleans. When Saki left the band, Nemophila lost a great deal of momentum. I was very bummed out by the departure. Lovebites had a similar situation when Miho left. Lovebites, however, regained any lost momentum with a homerun replacement in Fami, followed by a excellent album with Judgement Day. The end result was a very successful US debut at ProgPower in Atlanta which I made the long trip to attend. Nemophila did not seek to get a bump in excitement with a new band member. A lot rides on the next album. I am confident that it will be great and that Nemophila will make a return to the US.

Mayu - Vocals Tamu - Drums Hazuki - Lead Haraguchi-san - Bass Ex member, but in this video Saki - Also lead. They used to be a 5 member with dual lead, now they are a 4 piece. Mayu has some of my favourite clean vocals of anyone. She has really decent uncleans though not my absolute favourite. But with both put together she is one of my favourite vocalists. Mayu goes for cleans and the unclean highs, she doesn't tend to do unclean lows. Dissensions studio specifically has a lot of filter on her screams, most of their songs don't and yeah she sound better with less filter. Nemophila have a more mixed variety of song genres compared to most of the other groups you are doing. They can swing wildly from this, to heavier still, to totally clean calm ballads. All the other groups also play in multiple genres and have plenty of variation between songs and often in individual songs, but some of Nemophila's songs are just a totally different genre. For me I am not a fan of Nemophila's totally clean ballads but like most of their heavy stuff, and most of it is heavy. Other awesome Nemophila songs Zen Revive Ama Te Ras Raitei Rise Hypnosis Adabana Seize The Fate They also have a pretty damned large number of really fun covers filmed in their studio, including a great Babymetal and Hanabie cover as well as Iron Maiden, KIss etc.

This is a very early Nemophilia concert and additionally a specific one, without an audience (COVID). Dissension is also their early song, it played a very important role in their career. As for mayu's scream, in Dissension it is heavily digitally processed, and in Naon mayu still had little experience in such singing. Later she made huge progress. In ZEN she showed what she can do: NEMOPHILA / ZEN [Official Live Video] kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWLcgZV4h615o9U The real show was the Maximum the Hormone covers performed by the B.B.Band project in which mayu screams. 【B.B.BAND】マキシマム ザ ホルモン / F [西沢幸奏/ぴにょ/NAGISA(TRiDENT)/mayu(NEMOPHILA)] kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4eXd3WtiKySodk 【B.B.BAND】マキシマム ザ ホルモン / ぶっ生き返す!! And if you want something even stronger, BRAINWASH - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZjKo5KBlt6HfNk Fun fact: In the amphitheater where NAONのYAON (the one from Dissension) takes place, Namophila will play a concert in which they will play their 4 albums and one EP in their entirety! The fact that they are a Japanese band doesn’t make their pronunciation of an originally non-Japanese word functioning as their band-name somehow compulsory or binding. English-speakers don’t say “Bando Maido” when referring to Band-Maid, or “Rabu Baitsu” for Lovebites. Various dictionaries give variant pronunciations for “Nemophila” the flower, including either “nee” or “ni” (short “i”) for the first syllable, and in some sources stress on the second syllable.

While I don't like Nemophila as much as Hanabie., they are still killer (I have a thing for crazy female vocalists I guess lol). Band-Maid's vocals are a little to J-pop sounding for my personal taste, though they're obviously insanely tallented too. Tamu the drummer has said she was inspired by Nao from Maximum the Hormone. Nemophlia does do a cover of Pardon Me, I have to Go Now by Hanabie. which is really, really good. Definitely worth checking out.

For your info: the live performance was during a post-covid edition of the "NAON@YAON" festival. This is an all-female festival organised by the legendary band SHOW-YA, like an annual gathering of all generations of the female rock scene. Show-Ya raise to fame during the eighties as one of the first all-female metal bands in Japan (and the world) and became huge stars ... in Japan. They should have been knowned worldwide, they were as good as any male band of the hair-metal times, and better than any other all-female metal band back then (ok - just my opinion 😉). And they are still playing, with the same line-up, at 60! Check their eighties videos!

Great reaction and a lot of Band-Maid fans also like Nemophila, different genres, different styles, both bands have super talented musicians, same way that some (some) of us also like Babymetal. Great bands are great because of the musicians. Neomophila are now a four person band, Saki (on the right side of the video) left last year and she's doing solo workd and playing with other bands - she knows a lot of musicians in Japan.

In their early years, she had pretty much one register for screaming. The last couple years she has started developing a little more range with her screams, but it is still on the higher end. This particular live performance was at the Naon na Yaon festival during COVID, and it was live-streamed without a live audience.

You said the band name correctly. They have a couple of harsher, heavier songs than this one. But then they have some of the softest ballads, the most fun pop-punk, some nu-metal, metalcore, electronicore, pop, more metal and then some more metal. Saki left the band at Easter 2024. They're now a 4-piece and they've just released their heaviest song so far. Mayu - lead scream and clean vocals, also some rhythm guitar since Saki left Hazuki - 7-string guitar, backing and additional vocals Haraguchisan (AKA Hara-chan) - 5-string bass, backing and additional vocals Tamu - drums, backing and additional vocals Ex member Saki - 7-string guitar, backing vocals

Love Nemophila. You mentioned going to Hanabie in Dallas. I missed their last concert here, but will make this one. Other Japanese bands I’ve seen in Dallas are Nemophila, Lovebites, Babymetal, Band-Maid, and Marty Friedman. I’ve chased some of these bands around the US and to Japan. I also follow and have seen other Japanese groups, but have missed their Dallas shows due to work schedules. The next Dallas show (to my knowledge) will be Marty Friedman on about 18 Feb 2025, then Hanabie in March. If you don’t know Marty’s band, he was a former guitarist for Megadeath decades ago, but moved to Japan 20+ years ago. I can speak more about him, but let me highlight his bass player Wakazaemon. You might be more familiar with her last band East of Eden and current session work with Koiai. The banner at the yop of the stage tells you which festival this was, Naon no Yaon (Japanese: NAONのYAON) is an annual all-female music festival held at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall in Tokyo, Japan's Hibiya Park. Created and "produced" by heavy metal band Show-Ya, performing artists and staff members are restricted to females, but attendance is open to everyone. If you search that on KZbin you will find some amazing performances by many of the all-female groups as well as a multiple performer guitar demonstration, WORLD GUITAR GIRL'S COLLECTION, organized by Saki (the guitarist on the right in this video, she has since left Nemophila), Tamu (the drummer for Nemophila) has been the drummer for this demonstration for years.

Hey welcome to Nemophila. Great band. One of the top 5 along with the others you been reacting to IMO. Nemophila is my favorite out of all them and I consider them the most diverse. As others have said the guitarist Saki left back in April but that did not stop the others and they are still kicking ass with just 4 and their 4th album comes out next week. Hazuki the remaining guitarist is a shredder. Haraguchi-san the bass player is a fireball and when she gets headbanging look out haha. Tamu the drummer is one of the best out of Japan. They are all excellent musicians. Mayu the lead singer is amazing can switch from growls, screams and cleans on a dime. Yes she does get lower more at times. Actually as she has matured as a singer she has done more lower register growls and can hit that pig squeal you like. She is even now playing some guitar on some of the songs. They have a ton of killer songs. If you like the live and her screams I would try Oiran live their first song as a band back when they started. Their are two versions. one from the concert you just saw and one from about a year or so ago which is the better sound version and their is a crowd. Zen live is another kick ass one where she growls and screams through whole song and up until recently was the heaviest of their songs but their new release on Christmas Brainwash is brutally heavy.Mayu does some deep growls in that one. They play all styles of hard rock and metal and have done about 5 beautiful ballads too. You are going to love your journey with them too. New album next week followed by 17 date tour in Japan. Later in May they are playing a 4 hour show and playing every song off all the albums to date.

This was in 2021 which was the height of covid i Japan' there was no crowd at the festival. The Naon Yaon festival is produced each year by Show Ya, the og female metal band in Japan, who have been rocking it since 1981. Besides Mayu and Saki (who has left for solo projects), there is Hazuki and Haraguchi-san. Tamu is the drummer; Tamu is how Japanese say Tom, the drum. Her given name is Ai. She is a well respected studio musician. And along with Mayu, mother of young children. The band has a day care backstage.

Nemophila started out in 2019 as a cover band called Mayu's session. They were only suppose to play a couple of shows, but they played so well together that they decided to become a permanent band. They played support in a few venues and then in February 2020, played their first headlining show at a sold out 200 person venue. They also released their first single, Oiran, and started their KZbin channel at the same time. Then everything was shut down due to Covid. They continued posting videos on their channel on a near weekly basis. Sometimes they'd post a cover song, and sometimes they'd post an original song. Despite the fact they couldn't play any concerts, their popularity grew through word of mouth and their KZbin channel. In January 2022, they were finally able to do a live concert once again. By this time, they were so popular, they sold out a 1500 person venue. The venue actually holds 3000 people, but they were still under restrictions and could only fill half. Tickets started selling 2 months before the concert, they sold out in one week. That same year, they made their USA debut at the Whisky-a-Go-Go in LA, and played at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento. In 2023, they toured the US, including a stop at SXSW. In February 2024, they played at the prestigious Nippon Budokan. Saki, the guitarist on the right, left the group in March and they have been a four member band since. The live video you reacted to was the Naon no Yaon festival in 2021, an all female festival put on by one of the OG female metal bands, Show-Ya. Due to covid restrictions, they couldn't have a live audience so it was streamed only. My favorite song of theirs is probably "Oiran." There is an official video, as well as two live versions.

She writes some beautiful stuff! 'G.O.D.' next, like I originally requested, please. Congrats for completing my Top 5 Essential J-rock bands! I'll wait a little so you can catch up before giving your bonus band prize!😂😂😂👊✌️

Saki (guitarist on the right) went solo.. But Nemophila misses Nothing as 4.. maybe check out their new one "Brainwashed"..Oiran(evolved) studio..both as the current 4, plus several more..yes there are better "live versions of Dissension..this live version, bad weather ,no audience (covid) same sound tech for several bands..just wasn't up to par for them..one thing about Nemophila, theyre very diverse, and just do whatever style they feel like..all great..

@@ShadeReactsLive One more suggestion regarding this band if you dont mind. . Hazuki, the dirty blonde librarian looking guitarist of Nemophila is in another band called Koiai. Lisa-X is the other guitarist in that band. Whether or not you react to it I highly suggest you check out their song "A new Picture". While the vocals may not be your cup of tea. The musicianship is incredible. Hazuki and Lisa-X are two of the greatest female guitarists on the planet. 1 more thing. Mayu is far more talented than you know. She also plays rhythm guitar and drums. Mayu is incredible.

Oiran live NOT from this show but latest one to hear them with actual good audio. I do love the Oiran performance from this gig but the sound is not that great. Hell do them both since Oiran never had a true mv. It is typically their show closer, 1st song they released, a fucking BANGER and a fan favorite. This your 1st band reacting with 7 string guitars (besides the Kami Band). Combined with the inspiring bass and technical wizardry of Tamu on drums you get this full heavy feel from Nemo.

Ok so let's load up your musical J-Plate a little more. Japanese Pop (and I use the term lightly snd in the best sense of the word possible) Vocalist [Ado] is currently the most popular Vocalist/Artist in Japan today. Make no mistake this is no uninspired, cookie cutter, Ariana Grande Garbage Pop. Its Japan, so that should be some indication that its not going to be done poorly. Ado "Unravel Live 2023.8.30", theme song to the anime Tokyo Ghoul! It's a Heartbreaking song about begging someone to remember the you, as you used to be, instead of the you that you've become due to life's circumstances. This is one time where you would need to break your format and watch the Live Version 1st so as not to spoil the Surprise and get the Maximum Impact of the performance. To listen to the studio recording first would rob you of the Shock Factor. Also you can look into thel Artist who wrote and performed the original version used in rhe OTA of the show. But just like Bob Dylan wrote and performed "All Along the Watchtower" once Jimi Hendrix played it, it kinda became his. There's actually a KZbin video made up of Reactors Ugly Crying while watching this performance, not saying that would be you, Just Saying. I hope you see this.

Mayu's main screams have been the higher shrieks. But recently, she's going lower more often. (See the breakdown in Ama-Te-Ras.) She gets better and better. And her clean voice is simply beautiful. Nemophila are excellent live. Speaking of which, Shade---if you haven't, check out the LIVE version of HANABIE.'s "Pardon Me" at Liquidroom. Yukina's live screams are a little bit different. And the whole band is seriously high energy. I got to see HANABIE. performing on their co-tour with Jinjer (and Born of Osiris), last year. Both Yukina and Tatiana more than measured up.

Very cool!!! You said you liked Mayu's live screams. Japanese bands seem to have this in common. They all seem to improve live!!! There are good Nemophila songs for you to react to... I won't even recommend them... you've been following the indications, thank's! Probably Unlucky Morpheus will please you too. With different but also surprising styles, Wagakki Band(a mix of drums, bass and guitar with 4 traditional Japanese instruments and a singer who also plays the piano) and Gacharic Spin(which has one of the songs with two drums on stage and has a rotation of the girls sometimes playing guitar, sometimes drums, sometimes singing solo - the lead guitarist and the bassist don't take turns, but they are a show in themselves)... Great reactions!!!

I love Nemophila eternal good vibes. Mayu is my fav singer out of all the bands (Su-Metal aside of course), she can scream high and low like a tigress but I just love her clean voice. Haraguchi (bass) and Tamu (drums) are two beasts with the most contagious smiles ever. Apart of the water (or the whiskey) I think BABYMETAL had something to do in this explosion of Japanese girls endless talent. Band-Maid started in 2013 Hanabie started in 2015 Lovebytes started in 2016 Nemophila started in 2019 I think BM paved the way. They showed Japanese youth that metal can be really cool for girls and they could aspire to be more than idols. In the other direction, they showed the world that Japan was a place to look at for more than J-pop. Is what I think at least, I'm not an expert yet.

These girls are magic. They hit that heavy rock and metal vibe all in one. I really love the sound of Mayu's vocals. From the pig squeals to the raspy? quality of her cleans. Nemophila is in my top 5 for Japanese bands. If they ever do a proper tour of the US (not just the large coastal cities), that ticket is most likely an instant buy for me (even if they're just the opener).

Yes, the official audio for Dissension has an effect on Mayu’s screams. It’s the only song they’ve ever released where that was done and even other songs on the same album don’t have that effect on her vocals. I have no clue why that choice was made but I’ve always hated it

Great songs that show the softer side of Nemophila. 'Ama-Te-Ras' is a quite unique 'groovy metal' song and one of their best as well. ‘G.O.D.’ is one of their newest song and 1st song as a 4-piece band Thanks for reacting to this talented group of ladies! 😀🤘

You still have so much more to experiene. You really need to chack out Maximum the Hormone's (Hanabie's inspiration) collab with Atararshii Gakko. It was one of the best MV's in 2024. Nemophila - "baby blue eyes" flower, "Rurikarakusa" in Japanese; grows in N-America and is appreciated in Japan (see "Hitachi Seaside Park"). The band was formed in 2019, originally as a "session" brought together by... Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band); Haraguchi-san - (ex- HöLDERLINS band) bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Music College; Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill"; Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, "Destrose", and others), she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and... Hazuki (KOIAI "Dark Indigo" / Li-sa-X, Disqualia bands) - guitar, backing vocals; both, Saki and Hazuki have a lot of experience. Unfortunately, Saki left the band in march 2024, after the Budokan concert, thinking that her contribution was enough after more than 4-5 years, pursuing her - successful - solo carrier, and then she became a member of Like〜an〜Angel band. The band continues in the 4 members form, with Mayu starting to add guitar bits while Haraguchi-san's bass, and Hazuki's guitar becomes more prominent. Nemophila, with their self-declared "Jigoku no Yurufuwa" (soft and fluffy hell) general metal-rock style, made an amazing fandom impression during the pandemic, thru KZbin clips... ...so far about 50 Western/Japanese awesomely bonkers covers, and about 40 original, freakishly insane good songs (singles, EPs - including the JPURecords' Extended Edition of "Oiran", 3 albums - "Revive", "Seize The Faith", "Evolve"; EP - "Beautiful Days").
