Hello [Life With] Recklezz ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). The name Nightwish was derived from the title of the first song the original three band members recorded in 1996. Tuomas(keyboards/composer/founder), Emppu (guitar) and Tarja (singer, no longer with the band). Ghost Love Score was #13 in a 15 song set at Wacken). Their songs can be light, medium or heavy. I think the name 'Nightwish' came from the wordplay of the popular poem, "Starlight, starbright, First star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight..." Keyboardist Tuomas got the idea sitting by a campfire in the night. Originally, it was supposed to be a folk/acoustic project and he recorded a demo w/ the song 'Nightwish'... he asked singer Tarja Turunen, whom he met in music school, to do vocals... but her powerful, operatic voice inspired Tuomas to write more songs in the heavy metal sound... The first album he recorded as Nightwish in 1997 was 'Angels fall first' - w/ Tuomas (keys), Tarja (vocals), Jukka (drums) & Emppu (guitar & bass)... and the record did well in their native Finland. They hired bassist Sami and played their first live concert in late 1997. Bassist Marco Hietala joined in 2002 and did male vocals for Nightwish... Nightwish helped establish the genre that was dubbed symphonic metal or symphonic rock... their current singer Floor Jansen (in this video) is from the Netherlands, and had her own symphonic metal band After Forever, which broke up around 2008. After their debut album, Nightwish grew in popularity w/ the next few record in Europe... then South America. 'Oceanborn' (1998) followed by 'Wishmaster' (2000) ... Tuomas, however, felt disillusioned by 2001 and wanted to end the band, but after the 'Century Child' (2002) album and bassist/vocalist Marco coming on board, he felt inspired to carry on writing... the next album 'Once' (2004) made Nightwish a big name across Europe & S. America... now North America was a priority, but problems w/ the singer Tarja led to her being fired in 2005 after the tour. Despite the urge to end the band, Tuomas kept writing and auditioned singers for Nightwish... In 2007, Anette Olzen from Sweden joined Nightwish on lead vocals... but she was more of a pop singer than an operatic one like Tarja. Her first Nightwish album 'Dark passion play' (2007) was a massive global hit and established Nightwish in N. America. However, following the release of Anette's 2nd Nightwish album 'Imaginaerum' (2011), the band's relentless touring and her inability to meet the demands on the road finally led to her dismissal in 2012 in the middle of their US tour... Floor Jansen completed the 2012/ '13 tour and was named the 3rd lead singer, w/ multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley joining the band. Unfortunately, drummer Jukka left Nightwish due to health issues... Kai Hahto (drums) joined the band. Nightwish released their first album w/ Floor on vocals, "Endless forms most beautiful" (2015) and spent years touring the world... In 2020, Nightwish released the 'Human II Nature' album... Bassist/vocalist Marco announced he was leaving the band... bassist Jukka Koskinen has been playing shows w/ the band since 2021.

There are no bad songs and each one you hear is very different from the other. And each one will become your new favorite. That might sound ridiculous but we have seen it over and over again. This is a live band. This is a rarity that the live music is better than the engineered versions. Stick with live. General Gabriel should arrive to give you a road map and a history to help you on this most magical of journeys. The name Nightwish came from the first song the original 3 members recorded by the same name - a song about longing (wishing) for someone to love, likely when lying in bed at night. The band is from Finland, but the singer Floor Jansen is from The Netherlands, and the have a multi-instrumentialist from UK. Floor lives in Sweden with her daughter and Husband Hannes van Dahl, who is the drummer for SABATON. The genre is called Symphonic Metal

This is a slow song so the crowd was pretty chill for it. If you want to see them a little more hyped up check out Romanticide, Song of Myself, Ever Dream, Amaranth ... pretty much any song from the concert, really. There's not a bad song in the set.

Oh and Technically it fall under the metal umbrella. Most commonly called Symphonic Metal!!!! And yes this song is slow. But don't get it twisted because they also go heavy and fast. Too bad that he was ill with insomnia and stopped drumming, now he is the general manager of the band. The new drummer , Kai Hatho is just as good though different style. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6) She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. Thanks for your reaction! The problem with Nightwish comes with putting them in a specific genre. Most fans like to talk about Symphonic Metal, which is pretty accurate for many of their songs, but to throw in a few more options, I would say that their songs vary from Thrash Metal to Prog to Hard Rock and Folk Metal and Wikipedia also lists Gothic metal and Power metal. Most NW songs would qualify for 3 or 4 of those genres 🙂🎤🔥

This is the new metal (at least to me) called symphonic metal. The singer is Floor Jansen (married to Sabaton's drummer Hannes van Dahl). Sabaton is another group you should check out. Sabaton's does something totally different in the metal world. Their music is what they call military history metal. But I'm sure many filled you in on Nightwish facts. I'm new to this rabbit hole and it has become a wild fun ride.

Symphonic metal is the merge of symphony and metal music. And it is composed in chapters, with deep poetic lyrics, very tight musicians never overdoing or showing of, but only does exactly what is needed to enhance the experience. This singer Floor Jansen, are the most versatile, powerful, skilled and talented singer in this century. Her voice og breath techniques are unique - she can literally do anything, and are the perfect match to the Metal Mozart, as Tuomas (keyboard) are called.
