I was in college when this song was all over the radio. It was playing when my Mother walked by. She said, "that song is about me and your Father." They were college sweethearts, married young, and were still acting like they were first in love, not old enough to have kids in college. They continued their love story for 55 years. Great songs have the ability to invoke powerful memories.

Great song!! Soft rock, especially 70's soft rock, is what your generation now refers to as "yacht rock". America, England Dan and John Ford Coley, Seals and Croft, Christopher Cross, a multitude of groups from that decade just made beautiful, low key, sweet sounds that were a nice change from rock and roll and disco, although those genres were tremendous also. There will never be as much true talent and beautiful noise as there was back then!!

The Story of the song is the lyrics came to Johanna Hall while she was doing laundry. How about the harmony guitars by John Hall he was the master. And I might add a very nice person. "Let There Be Music" and "Dance With Me" are probably the most popular Orleans tunes but their music is memorable. Thank you Shon 😊❤

Songfacts®: John Hall of Orleans explained how the song came to be written in the liner notes to the Best of Orleans CD: "A friend of ours was going through a divorce and asked Johanna (Hall's wife and lyricist) to write a song about a couple staying together. So she did, and she handed me the finished lyric on the back of an envelope and said, 'Do you think you can do anything with this?' I wrote the music to it in 10 minutes, which was a good sign."

Love this song. Personally, I'd call it "happy rock". It's rock that's pleasant to listen to, and makes you happy. :) Since you like this vibe of being happy with someone, check out Neil Young's "Harvest Moon." Different tempo, but it has that same feeling. One of my longtime faves!

There are a handful of couples that wrote epic songs over the years. My second cousin Boudleaux Bryant and his wife Felice wrote over 5k songs for BMI back in the 50s n 60s. This song by Orleans is still a banger after all these decades. Love it. ♥♥♥♥

Christopher Cross is another soft rock legend, "Sailing", "Ride Like the Wind" and "Arthur's Theme" are a few of his best. But the song that always touched my heart is "The Goodbye Girl" by David Gates (who was also the lead singer of the very popular group Bread. And their music is the epitome of soft rock).

I like that Shon is appreciating soft rock. I love the soft rock of the 70's. A good part of music consumption is from this era. I could list dozens and dozens that I listen to on a regular basis. Magnet and Steel by Walter Egan and Cool Change by the Little River Band are great. Handy Man by James Taylor would be a great listen too.
