One of the greatest live performances of all time, I mean the lyrics, Paolo’s voice, his passion every musician was on point and feeling it and not to mention the back up vocals that were simply out of this world… when ever I loose touch and feel down this is the go to song to say fuck it I need to rise up and get the fuck on with it. The best live performance and one of the most underrated artists and song ever.

Late to the party here but I've watched a 100 reactions to this and gotta say yours is up there with the best. Love that you mentioned uniting us all right before Chaplin says the same thing! This is Paolo's opus and for me perosnally, put him in the same pose as Marley, Lennon, Dillon, Gaye etc with this song. The ongoing struggle between hope and despair, but is ultimately optimistic. And lets face it. Few can scream 'Freedom' like a Scotsman!

There is 1 rule of the universe to know: Where or what you put your attention at will grow. You will get more of that. Every change will take a lot of time or will never happen because of 1 thing: We all put our attention on the things we don't want, the things which are wrong in our opinion. This we do in all the tiny details we can find. We need to focus at what we want to create (in details 😉) that will bring the change❤

Underrated artist because he doesn't play in this corrupt system as much as he can help it. I believe he is in control of his content. This song is about people rising up and taking back control of this corrupt and evil system. It's about people shutting off mainstream media and stop allowing the system to devide the peopleby telling us lies 24/7. Yes, sadly there will be prejudiced people but by and large, we are not, we have more love than hate if we would just stand up and say no more. Power of God!

Paolo gave an interview about and performance of this, about 6 years ago to Radio New Zealand, where he talked a bit about his inspiration for writing the song. He said he wondered what it would look like if we could see all the technology surrounding us, as if all the cell phone signals were visible, all the data, the media and social media, all this information and machinery over us, visibly pressing down on us. But not just signal flying through the sky -- he also talked about checking your baggage when traveling with a machine instead of a person, that instead of a ticket taker with a family and mouths to feed, we just deal with more machines. And of course, we can see the machines, but what if we could see the _idea_ behind using the machines in this way, to replace actual human interaction, as a visible phenomena. In this light, the Chaplin quote makes a lot more sense, in fact so do the lyrics, and re-reading them is like an enlightening trip through Paolo's on-target thesis. We have a yoke on us, one that we willingly put on ourselves, to serve ease, or perhaps arrogance, an iron sky that truly IS fast becoming our minds, but which one day we will perhaps allow ourselves to see through... into freedom!

There is a lot of speculation that the lyrics are in reference to Scottish independence. He has denied it himself in interviews but that’s likely a move by his record label to stay above the political. Either way, he’s a tremendous talent and I really hope he comes back to make more music some day ❤️🏴

I think Paolo is above putting a message so partisan in his music-Whatever his feelings may be. I believe he said this song was a call to our innate humanness, and how we must fight for it in a world that’s ever more mechanical, unnatural, and twisted.

Can we give some credit to the guy in the channel actually appreciating this song (even if it seems a little fake sometimes)? I can hear Nutini playing anytime and have the same touching reaction that I had the first time around, it's impossible not to once it's gone in through you, but it's hard to find someone actually appreciating it for the masses.
