Although this song is about 300 years old, I really liked the idea of Covid-19. It turned out to be fun, thank you! 🤣🤣🤣 Please add Polina Gagarina to your piggy bank of reactions. By the way, she is friends with Pelageya. She has a spectacular video clip "A Cuckoo" with English subtitles - this is the soundtrack to the movie "The Battle for Sevastopol". She performed the same song live in China, but there are only Russian and Chinese subtitles. Polina also sings in English. For example, the song Hurt by Christina Agelera. Peace! Greetings from Siberia! ✌😉🇷🇺

This is a song about a Cossack in the war who had a dream that te would die tomorrow. The Cossack was in the army of Tasman Stepan Razin. The history of this song goes back to those times. Stepan Razin is the Sranan of the Don Cossacks, the loader of the rebels in 1670-71, whose troops were defeated by the tsarist army, Stepan himself was wounded and handed over by rich Cossacks to the tsar. On June 6, 1671, Stepan Razin was guartered on the scaffold on Red Sguare in Moscow.

This is a Russian folk song that is more than 300 years old. And every second Russian knows the words of this song. This song is known in 10-12 countries of the former Soviet Union, I heard it in Chinese, it was sung at some holiday in Beijing. Russian Russian and my friends in Africa say that - in 1846, a unit of 58 Russians decided not to retreat, and not to surrender, but to defend the fortification, and the Russians, preparing for a decisive battle, sang this song. (Then all 58 people died, but they took more than 250 enemies with them to the grave, and detained the attackers for almost 10 days) In this song is the history of Russia. The Swedish king attacked from the north, Prussia and the Lithuanian-Polish Principality attacked from the west. The whole country is at war, Russia has been attacked by 2 great powers. France pays money to the Ottoman Empire to start a war from the east. THE SONG is a Dream of a Cossack soldier of the East of Russia, guarding the borders of the Caspian and Black Seas. This song is about foresight. (In a dream, a young Cossack is riding. and suddenly a strong east wind rips off the hat and a horse falls dead under it). Waking up, the Cossack realizes that he saw his death in a dream, and it was not a hat blown away by the east wind, but it was his severed head. Knowing about his imminent death, he still gets on a horse, and rushes to my to meet his fate, to fight for the defense of the Motherland. (The Ottoman Empire attacked Russia from the east). Many still do not understand how Russia survived such an onslaught. The title of the song is "Oh, it's not evening yet". This is a Russian saying. Here you suddenly attacked me today - wait, it's not evening yet! (We will come back, take revenge, and you will regret it!) You attacked: "But it's not evening yet," we will gather our strength and drive you away. And the song sounds so that the viewer understands. That the Cossack, having seen a prophetic dream, went straight into battle. And Russia has not given up. As you know, she defeated everyone who invaded her territory. Russia does not start a war, but it ends it :) This song was sung by hundreds, maybe even thousands of singers. Listen to the Russian singer Pelageya singing it. Also very strong and with character.

This sad song is about a Cossack who tells his bad dream and suspects that he will die. This song is well known in Russia - a folk hit (Russians love melancholy, sad songs). For centuries the Cossacks stuck to their customs, especially their music, an art of expression full of deep melancholy and exuberant temperament. The first existing recording of this song was made in the 1880s by a 75-year-old Cossack. Who were the Cossacks? The turkic word means "free warriors" - were fled serfs and adventurers. They settled on the Don rivers in southern Russia and the Dnieper rivers in present-day Ukraine in the 15th century and formed militant communities to defend their self-given rights. Initially, the Cossacks were suppressed by Catherine II and they resisted. Only when the advantages of border protection with the help of light cavalry became apparent, Catherine II assigned them their own areas with special rights on all endangered borders of the empire and they provided the best riders of the Russian cavalry. ... The history of the Cossacks is very changeable and painful. (google)

In truth, the song (as an omen) is not as old as many people deem. Anyway, the melody itself was penned from scratch more recently, in the early seventies of the last century. Whilst the lyrics considerably revised and adapted to the melody are definitely based upon the very very old verse. It may seem to be unbelievable but the author of the song lives amongst us so far.

Oh, there was not the eve, was not the night. I was sleeping slight, so slight. I was sleeping slight, so slight And was I seeing a dream so bright. I was sleeping slight, so slight And was I seeing a dream so bright. Oh, I was ha-aving the dream so bright As if my trusty raven steed Started hopping, started toying Underneath me like a kid. Started hopping, started toying Underneath me like a kid. Suddenly here came vicious gusts of wind Oh, from the side of morning dawn. They did blow my dark black hat off My wild head. So I felt lorn… And did blow my dark black hat off My wild head. So I felt lorn… Our captain was so shrewd and still. He could just explain my dream. He said, “Once your rampant head will Will be lost.” So scary theme… He said, “Once your rampant head will Will be lost.” So scary theme… Oh, there was not the eve, was not the night. I was sleeping slight, so slight. I was sleeping slight, so slight And was I seeing the dream so bright. I was sleeping slight, so slight I And was I seeing the dream so bright.

Almost all Russian songs are about war, about battles, about self-sacrifice. They sound so that no one but Russians can hear them. That's why our valor and bravery are removed later, in the war. These songs are sung before the fight to raise the spirit.
