"Don't know when I'll be back again" This song came out when a lot of young men were being drafted to go to Vietnam, so there's a bittersweet subtext...

in the early 70s I left Maine on a jet plane for Florida to meet up with my dad who was in the navy. I was little at the time and I listened to this song on the airplane stethoscope headset as we were taxiing away. I didnt want to leave Maine at the time and it took over 30 yrs to get back. This will always be my song of love for my home state.

They were so much a part of the huge movement for equality, peace and anti-war. Folk music was the backbone of those times.

Cathy K., you've taken me back to the days of WABC 77 am radio. Of course, the Ed Sullivan Show comes to mind. Good and classic song request Cathy, and keep them coming....

Was torn, because Blowin In The Wind and Where Have All The Flowers gone are really them as well. Think the themes of those are lost for those that didn’t live in the time.

You feel the "Leaving" and hear the backstory better in this version because of their talent as story-tellers

A lot of us who saw Just Jammin's mild reaction to "If I had a Hammer" the other day had a hunch that he would love "Leavin' on a Jet Plane." And of course it happened like lightning: it only took till 1:51 for that big smile to break out ("I like the vibe to this -- real nice").

I am a huge fan of Peter, Paul, and Mary! Please listen to "Lemon Tree", "Cruel War", and Mary's cover of John Denver's "Follow Me"! Noel "Paul" Stookey (the guy on the left/tall guy) did a wonderful song called "The Wedding Song" and Peter Yarrow wrote "Puff the Magic Dragon!"! Another fan song is "Autumn to May" that the trio did! Great group and timeless!

I believe this was the next-to-last Billboard Pop Chart #1 record of the 1960s, followed by the official last one of “Someday We’ll Be Together” by Diana Ross & The Supremes. 😍

It's folk. Great song. John Denver and Mama Cass Elliot do a great duet of this song.

You have to consider the time when this was out. It meant a lot to many people. Have you done Mary j Blige...'No more drama'?

I know you have loved a few songs by John Denver so you should listen to him sing this because he’s the one that actually wrote it he actually does a fantastic job live on a TV show and Mama Cass joins him for harmonies
