At his Super Bowl halftime performance they came to Prince and said “we have some bad news, it is going to be raining”. Prince was quite for a moment and replied “can you make it rain harder”. His performance is considered one of the best halftime performances ever, if not the best.

I will say this right now, I was deployed to Afghanistan during that superbowl (Colts v. Bears), we found a tv and watched it. I think we had to wake up at like 3 or something like that. I normally don't watch the half-time show. I watched Prince, yeah probably best live performance ever. Yes, Prince could shred. Prince was a multi-instrumentalist. There's a Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" you need to check out. At at time that music was still kind of racially segmented he drove pretty much everybody to the record store. Rock Star just doesn't do it.

Prince is our Mozart, he mastered over 14 instruments by age 17, he could dance, sing any note, rap, he wrote, arranged, performed ALL his music, including wrote hits for other artists, he has covered almost every genre, Metal, Punk rock, hip hop, pop, r&b, soul, jazz, blues, country, ambience, classical, instrumental. The Multi-Genre God. He could play anything, and your favorite artists have been deeply influenced by him. Corey Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Vai, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lil uzi vert, H.E.R. , Paul Mccartney, all worship Prince to just name a few. Prince recorded his first 2 albums at 16 all by himself, all instruments, lyrics, arrangement, composition & vocals were all by him. He was such a prodigy, that music executives wanted proof, they would fly across country just to see if he could really play all instruments, because it was so unheard of. Prince has over 50 official released albums and when he passed, they found over 10 thousand unreleased Prince music in his vault. He then came into the business and was the FIRST to fight for artists rights, and he WON. He would write "slave" on his cheek and go to meetings protesting against the industry. Prince was also the first artist to sell his music on the internet. You are talking about the most talented artist we will ever see. Reply

This is a scene from the end of a movie (Purple Rain), which explains most of that scene. The song was actually performed live on that stage for the album. Prince not only wrote all his own material, he also wrote a dozen hits for other artists that he never even performed on his own records. One of the most iconic Prince moments on video is when he played the guitar solo at the end of "When My Guitar Gently Weeps" in tribute to George Harrison of the Beatles in 2004. Easy to find on KZbin, includes Tom Petty and other rock stars as well. Other songs? Check out "Dirty Mind" and "When Doves Cry".

Dude this is so unreal, incredible you've never heard Prince before. He was the Mozart of the 20th century, his vocal range covered 4 octaves, he could play more than 20 instruments, wrote hundreds of songs and released dozens of records, his work inkludes every style of modern music. From Gospel, Jazz, Funk, Blues to HipHop, Rap, Rock, Pop, Disco, Electro, modern classic and experimental, it's all there. Almost impossible to pick a favorite song, but if I should recommend one? Try Sexy MF, hilarious funny music video, you will love it.

I taught him the basics, but he left our school for another and we didn't keep in touch . I followed his career. He was perfect and I absolutely lost it the day he died. I blame the DEA for his death. With better pain management, he wouldn't have had to turn to street drugs for his constant physical agony.

I can't believe you've never heard of what Prince is, was, and what he could do. He's not just a shredder on the guitar, he is considered top 3 ever on the guitar. Even Eric Clapton calls him the GOAT. He's a pure musician, 27 instruments he plays, can sing, song writes for so many people including himself. In my opinion he is a #1 along side Michael Jackson. I'm a huge fan of both, which is kind of rare. Most people are in either one or the other camps, I say, you can't compare. Two different artists in two different lanes, and both conquered the music industry.

You don’t fully appreciate Prince until you watch him live. While Purple Rain is a fantastic song it’s no where near his best. His live performance of Purple Rain on the AMA show is so so so GOOD. It far surpasses the official music video. There really isn’t a top 3 because everything he made is so good. if you want to watch some really good Live performances I’d say America in Paris, Head in Detroit (his birthday show), Motherless Child from the year 1999 are all really good. However I’d suggest just starting with his earliest music and moving forward. One thing about Prince is he had the ability to take a song he wrote in the 1970s and update it throughout his career. His music was fluid and evolving. Prince sang lots of different genres too with the underlying sound of Minneapolis funk. I don’t think we will ever have another Prince. It’s honestly sad more people don’t know how great his music is.

This is from his movie, also called Purple Rain. Prince played over 50 instruments. Self taught. He wrote his music. Signed other talented people and gave them the help they needed. Think of Purple rain as being Baptiste. He was very close to God. Prince and M.J never had beef. That was media hype. When M.J passed Prince stopped rehearsal and stayed locked in his room for 2 or 3 days. He called a close friend and they were up all night talking about M.J.

For those who don't know, Purple Rain is actually a live performance and was never recorded in a studio. The original version was about 17 minutes long and was chopped down to its current length that we all know. It was also done in one take which makes this song that much more amazing. It was recorded on the same stage and venue (7th Street Entry) that the movie was filmed at with a live crowd. If you have a really good set of headphones, you will be able to hear the crowd in the background.....

He kissed her because in the movie it's the girls that convince him to not hold back and play their real style of music and not worry about being accepted by the audience. That's why the crowd is so morose in the beginning.

When asked how it felt to be the greatest guitar player in the world, Eric Clapton said, "Ask Prince".

He taught himself how to play the guitar (he is like another Jimmy Hendrix IMO) in addition to a ton of other instruments. He was a GENIUS and will be missed by me forever! (BTW: This song was in his film, Purple Rain. If you see the film you'll get the sadness behind this tribute.)

Here’s what it says about the songs meaning - “When there’s blood in the sky… red and blue = purple. Purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/God guide you through the purple rain,” Prince said of the song’s meaning.
