Losing my religion is a southern expression for being at the end of one’s rope- pushed too far, so to speak. Love REM.

This blew my mind when it came out…. Heavy rock is my thing, but the video along with his voice was what really sold this and made it such a massive hit.

The imagery in the video are different famous paintings. This song came out when I was in college and my art history professor used the video and showed us the paintings. Early REM is my favorite. Driver 8, (Don’t Go Back to) Rockville, and then also Fall on Me, Superman and Hyena. For something really different from the typical REM sound, try Underneath the Bunker.

In the South we say "I'm fixing to lose my religion" which means I'm about to leave my good Christian graces behind and go off in anger. 😬 Keep in mind most things in the South depend on tone or possibly have double meanings ex: "Bless Your Heart". However, "Lose My Religion" only has one meaning - you're taking me to the dark side. 😂 Michael bases it more off the loss of a relationship. It's really actually quite sad & obsessive. He keeps looking for little things to see of she is still interested but then pulls it back. There is a lot of pain here: “I thought that I heard you laughing, I though that I heard you sing.” When he gets to the line “oh no, I’ve said too much,” it sounds devastating. 😕 BRILLIANT BAND! I LOVE R.E.M.😍

@@ErikD71 Nailed it! The paradox is a catchy upbeat melody - yet the lyrics are quite sad. I think many people missed that about the song. You go from "Shiney Happy People" which the lyrics match the fun melody to "Everybody Hurts" which damn, there's no mistaking that one. They threw us a wrench with this one. Good catch, Erik!

You actually watching a "censored" video, because in original one there is a few seconds lasting scene, where one of the "accusers" of that angel, put finger in the angel's wound and move it inside the wound... it's actually kind of disturbing and a bit gruesome, but it is there in the "uncensored" version... This one don't have that scene, instead of that they put another view of one of those accusers pointing on the angel with hand. I remember it because when this video was released I was 10 and already then it was kind of stunning, that they show someone sticking finger to other one's wound. By the way the wound I'm talking about is on the angel's right side, just below the right nipple...

@@wbishop1330 It was in more than that : This song appeared on several Beverly Hills 90210 episodes. But it was cut out of DVD version of the series and replaced by other songs because of right issues. Beach blanket Brandon- Brenda and Dylan break up scene. Down and out of district in Beverly Hills - Steve talks to Andrea in Peach Pit. Parental guidance recommended - Brenda listens to it in her room. The whole scene was cut out of episode, released on DVD, because of dialogue between Brenda and Brandon - characters discuss the meaning of the song for Brenda and Dylan.

FINALLY!!! 🙌 ...Can you please do Rage Against the Machine- Bulls on Parade🤟🔥..AND then.. Denzel Curry- Bulls on Parade (cover) (like a version) 🙏🔥🙏🔥🙏 ✨️ "Losing my Religion" is actually a saying in the South meaning, like losing one's temper or civility or feeling desperate and frustrated. Basically, losing oneself. ✨️ Also, the lyrics and video refer to the art and ideology of "Judeo-Christian Tradition" which was ment to include all and bring people together (Jewish & Christian). BUT instead it was more of excluding people that are considered non-traditional. Basically, biased, gossiping, judgmental people that dont practice what they preach. There is also the examples of someone growing up in a strict Christian household and then find out their gay OR a traditional married couple who want a divorce, but its against their beliefs. Anyway, great reaction 👍
