Hey The Heavy. To know Nightwish, you should know their original singer Tarja Turunen. Floor is the third singer. So I recommend to listen to a song with Tarja, and one of my favourite song with her is Phantom of the Opera Live. A MUST for every Nightwish Fan. :D

If you like what you're hearing, why wouldn't you go back and check out where they came from to get where they are now? Just makes sense to me. I'd start from the beginning. You'll get to see some of the songs you've already seen with Floor sung by the original singer the songs were written for then work your way to the new album that just dropped earlier this year.

You should go through this experience from the beginning to see how Tuomas progress in his writing. Every singer gave Nightwish something special. Tarja's voice influenced opera/metal/rock direction and when I listened to it as a child, I instantly fell in love. I didn´t know much about English back then, but now, when I listen to old stuff live, I can´t stand her pronunciation. But she is a phenomenal singer and her solo career is exactly what she needed. Anette got backlash from fans and I totally understand, since she had such different voice/style. However, I still enjoyed their albums, because it was something new. Anette is a great singer, but she couldn´t compete with Tarja's super vocals. With Floor, they are their final badass form. They can do anything and it reflects in their happiness on stage. That is why everyone enjoys them live. The new album Human. :||: Nature. is a masterpiece and again it is something different. I can´t wait for their upcoming tour, where I can enjoy it live and as we know Nightwish, it will be even superior!

I love that you’re willing to take a deeper dive into NW! They’re not all gonna be this heavy but no less awesome! You still have epic tracks left too! There’s also overlap in songs sung by Floor and the previous singers. Maybe a couple 2 in 1 back to back? Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere) is definitely a must. You might want to listen to some Tarja songs from End of an Era before Poet & the Pendulum so you get a feel for what Tuomas went through when he fired Tarja. Very deep story in just that 1 song. I’ll be with ya! 🔥🤙

I'm an old fan, so I suggest that you dive into their early albums...but I know I'm in minority here. Their first album, "Angels Fall First", was never supposed to be actual album, only a demo, but it's not bad. There are some awkward things (like "Nymphomaniac Fantasia"), but overall it's a great demo. Then their second album, "Oceanborn" (which was the one that hooked me), they kind of stumbled with trial and error, yet it's amazing. I really really suggest you listen to that. Then of course later albums are incredible also, but I would start from Oceanborn.

I’m a Nightwish fan of the current setting they are in; from the Wacken concert 2013 until now. I would love for you to react to the song Kinslayer, they played at their concert in Buenos Aires in 2018. Tuomas wrote this song after the mass shooting at Columbine High School. Best way to start with the Nightwish discography is the Decades album. It’s a compilation album which covers 20 years of Nightwish history. It covers material from each and every album, except the most recent one that came out last month. Tuomas himself has compiled the list of songs for this record and his criterium was to make the perfect introduction to Nightwish for newbies. So I’d say that would be the ideal starting point.👍🤘🤘🤘

There's a video on Facebook if you can find it of Tarja recording Tony Kakko singing in the shower during the Christmas tour Tarja, Floor, Marko and many others do every year in Europe. It's hilarious because Tarja can't stop giggling. I like all 3 singers of Nightwish but Floor is the most versatile of them. Anette is getting thousands of views on KZbin with The Dark Element. They're all great.

To get into Nightwish albums it’s probably best to start with the newest and go back to the older. The lineup the band has currently is just amazing and it’s probably best to hear their current stuff first. The band evolved a lot from their early albums so many people think is easier to go from newest to old.

I think it would be a good idea to sample a few songs with the first singer (Tarja) before to make your decision on how to proceed. If you don't like her style at all, it simplifies things a bit. Good Tarja songs could be "The siren", "Nemo", "Planet hell" and "The phantom of the Opera".

You should definitely listen to Slaying the Dreamer named song. That is HEAVY! There is live version with Floor,don't remember where but you can find it easily. The song is originally sung by Tarja, the original singer. The song is about the people and record companies who didn't think that Nightwish would ever sell any music etc..boy where they wrong 😂. The song is really heavy and "angry". Other heavy songs that I highly recommend to listen to are planet hell and dead to the world. Don't know if there are live versions of them 🤔 also recommend Master Passion Creed.. It's a song dedicated to Tarja's husband who was their manager and he really tried to get more money for Tarja. And literally tried to fuck with the band. Bye bye beautiful named song is dedicated to Tarja after she left the band.. Well was kicked from the band... It's also heavyish i think 😂

Amazing drums indeed haha About your question, the first album is probably skippable since it was almost like a demo, they were still looking for their sound so even though there are some good songs, probably the best from that album is done better live afterwards in concerts. Elvenpath is the highlight IMO and it was done live with Floor in Buenos Aires. Oceanborn is their 2nd album (1998), it was also the first album i listened from them, it's pretty cool, more Power Metal oriented, with Tarja's classical singing, it was a novelty at that time. You have heard Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean live with Floor from this album. I'd say it would be a good place to start for you, maybe selecting the best songs from it. Check out Stargazers, Gethsemane and Sacrament of Wilderness either album version or live. Wishmaster comes next, introducing some more symphonic elements and a couple of greatest hits. So my reccomendation would be to start in chronologic order selecting the best (or heaviest :D) from each album. At some point you will have to do Ghost Love Score which is their most iconic and epic song, even though it's not particularly heavy, i think you will enjoy it as the piece of art it is.
@demise0
@demise0 4 жыл бұрын
Tuomas has said that he thought of 'Angels Fall First' (first album) as an actual demo. He was less than enthused at the label's decision to release it as an album. It's clearly much less polished than the rest of their albums. So while it's an official album in their discography, my head canon says it's a demo, and that Oceanborne is their first real album.

Gtrea reaction man!!!! i will leave here my suggestion. NW are better seen live, so how about checking their live dvd s first! they launched 5: From Wishes to Eternity, End of Innocence (includes a documentary about the band), End of an Era (last one featuring Taja as lead singer), Showtime, Storytime (the show of Wacken 13, Anette time music but sang by Floor), Vehicle of Spirit (Tampere and Wembley arene from here you took this video) and the Decades Tour live in Buenos Aires (in here are some of the old songs performed by Floor), and then you go straight to the new album. The live shows have the best songs with the best performances and you cant grasp almost all of NW history. Peace

The best songs to do for me is certainly the live performances with Floor and album versions of those they havnt done live yet. Then going for the earlier singers mainly for the songs Floor havnt done a version of or for whatever songs your curios about how earlier singers did. Also their former singers wasnt as exceptional live as Floor is and the 2nd singer was a cringe live so better go studio versions for reacting to her.

It's hard to give a direct answer to your question. It boils down to the question "what do you want to get out of this journey" especialy considering your comments after "Noise". If you want to get to know the band better and experiencing their musical evolution, by all start at the beginning and go forward chronologicaly, maybe even try to compare live and studio versions of the same song with the singer. If you want to hear music that might be "your cup of tea" i'd suggest ask for heaviest songs of the tarja or anette era and with these until you fell like "yeah, well it could be a little harder I don't really like it" and be honest about it so you get the right suggestions going forward. As a first test i'd recomend "Stargazer" live in Tampere 2015 link provided by Gabriel Bardac in the comments to "Noise" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmopnSGjtKSi8k ). If you like it start with Tarja if not maybe many of NW songs are just not for you. I hate to be this direct because i'd love to see you react to more Nightwish but what's the point if don't enjoy it?
@theheavy3468

I'm good with direct😉. If I wasn't enjoying/loving NW at this point, I wouldn't be doing the video's. Nor would I dive into their discography. 🤣 .
