Ayanga is truly an excellent singer. He conveys the emotion behind the song so well. Regression is about Otto (the blond haired guy in the video) and what he suffered through for hundreds of years. Ayanga also had a very tragic life growing up as both of his parents died when he was very young. He was taken care of by his older brother (who was 20 years older). Ayanga went to the Beijing Dance Academy, a very prestigious instituion, and in his senior year, his brother also passed away. A tragic song about a tragic person sung by a person who had a tragic life so young.

You are missing out the voice acted story part of the music animations since there is a version of the voice acting first then regression plays at the end. The singer Ayanga is a pretty popular Chinese singer who is really great at singing broadway like songs. For example there’s one of him and another guy singing Phantom of the opera somewhere around KZbin and my god is he amazing. All the singers Mihoyo get mainly all the Asian ones for the most part are pretty well known around China like Zhou shen or Ayanga or any of the singers in their concerts. Btw most of Honkai impact animation music are rather sadly emotional whether in an actual sad way or a sad but happy way like melancholy ish especially with a song like final lesson or Da capo when you eventually react to Da Capo.

WARNING! SPOILERS FOR HONKAI! (story behind regression) i also recommend that you react to Da Capo. absolute god tier in literally every aspect ever so the story of regression is that the blond guy (otto) is 500 years old, and every day of his life he regrets hit choices that led to the silver haired girl (kallen) getting hung and killed. in the modern day his entire goal is to turn back time to live the rest of his life with her and save her. This song plays when he achieves his goal by creating an alternate timeline where she gets to live in exchange for his own life. (i'm not entirely sure if an alternate form of him lives in that universe, because the CG leads me to believe that, but IDK if it's that or he just 100% dies and doesn't even have a copy of him in that universe, comments help me out) I'll be honest Honkai is the only game to date that made me root for the villain of the story 😭

Mild spoilers, obvs I mean, we see that the change he triggers is to roll back Kallen getting stabbed by the beast, then our-timelime Otto dropping in to destroy it. That means everything up to that night is part of that timeline, and Otto was around to release the beast. I haven't seen anything to suggest that the Otto in that timeline would simply cease to be, as part of all that. Thought it doesn't matter much, I think. Part of the tragedy is that even with Kallen surviving in that timeline, she's already disgusted by his ethics, esp in his experiments. The Otto of that timeline isn't getting their old relationship back. An interesting q is why he modified that point in time. I don't see any technical reason he couldn't change an earlier point, and reset some of his own decisions. It might be much harder to get those choices to play out differently. Or, he may have felt he wasn't entitled to that. Or, he may have believed that it would risk losing to Honkai further down the line.

I would recommend for most of these songs to react to the animations that go with them. You get a lot of context around the song from the animations as these songs are designed for the animations. There is definitely music to listen in HI3 that is not tied to an animation but almost all the big ones are and soo far every single one you have reacted to has been part of one of the animations. For example: the song from this video is tied to an animation called "thus spoke apocalypse". There is also a canonical watch order to the animations but if your not playing the game I'm not sure it really matters as some context will be lost.

My personal favorite song/animation from Hoyo. Also yes, you will definitely cry if you play and get to this part of the story. Will also say Otto (the blond hair guy) is up there as one of the best characters of his role in gaming imo, definitely up there with say Giliath Osborne from Falcom's The Legend of Heroes Trails series (who takes the #1 spot in regards to characters with their role due to how well the establish their repsective motives/background stories). Speaking of the Trails series I'd highly recommend watching the opening animation for The Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky 1, 2 and 3 as well as the later Trails games (Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure (Zero and Azure take place in the same arc with Zero being the 1st game of the arc), Trails of Cold Steel 1, 2, 3, 4, Trails into Reverie, and Trails to Daybreak 1 and 2 (though you may find them called Kuro no Kiseki for now as the Kuro/Daybreak games yet to release in the west and the first game has only got a western announcement this past week with a slated release for summer 2024...note all of these games take place in the same world and build off of each other's storyline for one massive story that takes place in a roughly 8 year or so timeframe but each game takes place in a different country of the world though some old characters make appearances/play a role in later games story (i listed the games in their release and chronological order if by any chance you/anyone else gets interested enough to try them out...you can generally play the first game of any arc))

From GGZ (Honkai Gakuen) to Honkai Impact those two are the edgy predecessors to both Genshin and Star Rail Those two Honkai games will ring you dry emotionally It's soo good yet so depressing, and It is possible that Star Rail might go the depressing route too if you give it enough time

Trying to not spoil much for when you watch "Thus Spoke Apocalypse", but this is a story about a man who was set on dedicating his entire life to playing the part of the villain in order to give a second chance for the love of his life. Its a beautiful yet tragic life story of a misunderstood boy losing the only person that mattered to him and spending the rest of his life trying to get her back. Evil or not Otto was a really well written villain, his doings were not just due to "pure evil" but rather stemming from the motive of nothing else mattered as long as it led him to his goal.

It's weird for me that I stay away from a lot of music because I really don't feel like tearing up or straight up crying but I am drawn to Honkai Impact 3rd music so much. It hurts most of the time and it's beautiful. Regression is one of the harder hitting ones.

If you want something upbeat? It does exist! Try Reburn, not the animated short but the song performed by Chalili.

Compared to Genshin, yes Honkai Impact 3rd story telling is darker, some characters even fan favorites like Himeko died. Which is what i like about Hoyoverse's story telling, they will kill a character if it will make the story far better, be it a fan favorite or not! Honestly i used to play Honkai many years ago, but due to school and part time job and also already playing WoW at the time i had very little time to play Honkai Impact 3rd. But the moment they killed Himeko it litteraly nailed me so damn hard that i stoped play xD. But honestly even tough i don't play it anymore i still follow the story telling by watching streamers. But be warned, don't go believing that Genshin's story is all birds and rainbows, some of Genshin Impact's characters went through a lot during their childhood and some didn't even had the time to have Childhood, they also already killed some NPC that were actually very lovely and funny and not to mention, that as it's going on now, Genshin impact story is slowly but surely becoming more and more darker. You will soon enough realise it^^

If you want to get an idea of the story you can take a look at the chronicles. If you want to know more about this animation specifically you should look at Otto's chronicle.

I think Da Capo is the perfect way to feel the emotions that honkai can make you feel

Genshin definitely has dark moments, it's just less overt, and dispersed among the happy. That said the further the story of Genshin progresses, the darker it gets. Darkness is kinda expected in Honkai, but when it happens in Genshin it can be quite jarring. That said it's not as if it's a new thing in Genshin. Venti's story quest is pretty dark and that was released fairly early on.
