Hey there, fam. Sorry, I've been a stranger for a while. Was down after surgery. All is good now. Ren is phenomenal. This was recorded live as a 1 take. They did 4 takes and chose this on to use. Ren was misdiagnosed and was on incorrcorect meds and suffering with from with mobility and psychosis issues due to the misdiagnosis and treatments. He had been signed with Sony until his illness and they dropped him. He went 7 years before a specialist correctly diagnosed him with Lyme disease. He's currently in Canada receiving treatment.

Hi Ren is not a one-take in the true sense of the term. Apart from having cuts, towards the end they switch to a handheld camera so those shots are from a separate take. All live though. Samuel Perry-Falvey has clarified that in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's reaction to the song.

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet. The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. A handful of people frequently post an earlier version of my comment to various reactions that they copied and pasted verbatim, so if this is a repeat just ignore this comment. I keep editing the information, as needed, and have removed details about Ren that some found to be too personal, such as his full name and D.O.B. All the information here was gathered exclusively from sources Ren personally approved for public release. Ren is a British musician/independent artist/producer, self-taught multi-instrumentalist; originally from Wales. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is in Calgary, Canada for at least six months (Summer of 2023), undergoing treatments such as IV therapy and other interventions five days a week, as well as surgeries (wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery). His Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Hence, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. He recently took a break from treatments and returned to the UK to visit family and friends, and to produce some very ambitious musical projects to be released soon. As do we all! Ren is dropping a new song every week for a month and then the 18 track full album on Oct 13th. This is all music he filmed last year, before he wrnt to Canada for treatment. He will be in treatment all of this year as the damage was more extensive than judged st first. 8 years of misdiagnosed Lyme disease ravaged his bodyorgans,nerves, joints and immune system.

His life story (his friend Joe's self inflicted exit off a brige and a the young man's decade lost to misdiagnosed lyme disease) is hard to grasp. He is a musical prodigy who found solace in what he puts out for us to hear and found his very peculiar niche of Hip Hop, Soul, Bardcore, UK EDM, Optimism and utter darkness, interesting references to the chocolate bar "Toblerone" and pure poetry. My favourites keep changing, daily, but the 5 songs I probably play the most are, in no particular order: Illest Of Our Time What You Want Genesis Fire How To Be Me ...Plus which ever song he just dropped (Love Music Pt.4) And I watch all the reactions to "The Tales of Jenny and Screech (Full)" I subbed for the ride, my man. Wait till you hear him and the big push busking Bob Marley Cover I shot the sheriff road to Zion hip-hop mashup. I know people will want you to do a bunch of them but so you can catch up a little bit he just released love music part 4 you don't have to listen to the other parts to understand it another one I would really suggest that I think you would really like is Illest of Our Time Dora and his style is highly eclectic never really hear the same thing twice for instance if you do Chalk Outlines Live(the one everyone loves) it is almost a completely different sound than the Chalk Outlines lyric video. They sound almost entirely different.

I have never seen anyone speak about mental illness, or portray a vision of mental illness / split personality that leaves you with a complete understanding of what is going on inside the mind. One has to wonder how frustrating it must be for the people who have these illnesses to explain this experience not only to Doctor's But the Judicial System .They are mocked in court or called crazy . Greg, I was finally able to watch your reaction (albeit 2 weeks late). Let me just say, Welcome to the wonderful world of Ren. As you go down the Ren rabbit hole, please be prepared as it is deep and very diverse spanning multiple genres (to the point of creating some hybrids). During the journey down, you will be introduced to other artists/bands that you probably had no idea (like Ren) existed.
