He was one of the greatest and besides his musical magnificence he was a beautiful man. When we listen to artists who seem to touch our hearts when they sing, they are people who have hearts full of love and we can hear it in their voices. The feeling cannot be manufactured or taught, it has to be genuine. Roy was one of those special individuals and he and his music will live forever, never to be forgotten. Thank you, Michael, for a heartfelt reaction to this video. It was so obvious Roy touched you and I know you couldn't wait to play this again for your personal pleasure.

Roy Clark sang this song at Mickey Mantle's funeral. Mantle, who was dying of alcoholism and was regretful about his wastrel lifestyle, asked Clark to do it. I always thought that was so sad.

Dude, your comments are so spot on! We are only given so much time on this earth & then we are gone. Every day should be cherished & made to count. I'm 67 now, retired from a life of working & I wonder where the time went & what have I accomplished. I still think like I'm your age, but know that I have much less time ahead of me than the time that has passed. Make every day count, Michael, for it goes by in the blink of an eye.

Glad you are doing more of this great talent. Quite a few people have covered this song, but I really like Roy's hit version from 1969. The song is a somber recollection of a wasted youth that led to a lonely adulthood.

Hi Michael, I'm Native American and Scottish, I'm 65, I'll be 66 in August, unfortunately, my Drs. don't think I'll make it to 67, I have cancer in my left lung and because of my nationalities, finding a donor is proving to be very difficult, my cousins Bobby and Pat are going to sing this song at my funeral. I have a pre-need, meaning my funeral is already completely paid for, everything I would like to have done is locked in a pretty lavender box. Please don't be sad or feel pity for me, I've lived a very fulfilling life, my husband and I raised 4 kids, we have 10 grandkids and 5 great grandkids, our oldest started having kids when she was extremely young. Anyhow, thank you for doing a reaction to this beautiful song. Keep smiling, people notice smiles. By the way, you look a lot like my oldest grandson, he's also a red head 😂

This is a classic. I remember when it came out. It made a deep impact on me. It was released in May of 1969 --54 years ago. Most folks who are old enough remember him as the co-host of Hee Haw. Buck Owens, the other co-host would intone "I'm a-pickin'!" Then Roy would chime in with "And IIII'm a-grinnin!"

I did most of my Roy Clark watching on Hee-Haw, that he hosted for 28 years, but he was also on the Beverly Hillbillys. He played guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin. He is an excellent singer and musician (country, blues, blue-grass etc.). In addition he was a pilot, guest hosted the Tonight Show and made guest appearances on other shows as well.

This was originally a French song written by Charles Aznavour. Roy’s version, in ‘69, went to Number 9 on the country charts, number 6 on the adult contemporary, and number 19 on the pop charts-Roy’s only pop-chart top 40 hit. Check out Roy singing: ‘Tips of my Fingers’ or ‘Thank God and Greyhound She’s Gone.’

I'm 65 and my little body is slowly giving out, I might make it another year or so, having said that, my cousins are going to be singing this song as I'm laying at the big cross for my final viewing. All my funeral arrangements have been made, my funeral has been paid for in full, and my body will be flown back to my reservation. I'm not afraid of dying, heck I was a mortician for over 25 years, I know exactly what is going to be done to me.

Yesterday was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the Beatles. You have discovered the GREAT talents of Roy Clark, try listening to one of his funnier songs, " Thank God And Greyhound". Glen Campbell was a studio magician like Roy and another great musician, but during those days there actually were many many fantastic musicians, discover and learn. Thank you for bringing these legends that are gone, back for us. As you know, Billy Strings will and IS a legend today. Ask your dad for more insight for more projects.
