Right so I’m sure a ton of other people have probably already mentioned this, but Sabaton specialize in I guess you could say telling history through rock ‘n’ roll. Most if not all of their songs tell the story of a historical battle or event, the The bismarck apparently being the big Bertha of the German Navy in one of the world wars. They are essentially if history class met The metal band.

So if you enjoyed that battle scene going on, you have to thank World of Warships and War Gaming, their parent company. A few years ago, Sabaton and WarGaming teamed up together to help promote one another. One being a gaming company dedicated to making historical military games and the other, being a Swedish metal band who only make songs about major military historical moments. Their first collaboration was their song "Primo Victoria" where the crew got to use real WW2 era tanks in their video. and Now Bismarck, where they got to use WarGaming's live action and CGI abilities. Im sure we'll see more co-op songs from these two, but this is the best by far.

I love Sabaton. I call them modern metal bards. Most of their songs revolve around stories of WWI and WWII. It's mostly the European side, but there are some stories of American soldiers too. I have learned more about WWI and WWII history because of this band. This particular song is about the German battleship Bismark. It was the largest ship in the German fleet and a nightmare for Great Britain. This is about the hunt for, and destruction of the battleship. Extra History has a great video series on this exact ship. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHS5Yqesgr55iNU Sabaton is right up there for my favorite bands to see live. Nightwish is top, followed by Sabaton and Sonata Arctica. When I saw Sabaton in Denver several years back they had so much fun. I hadn't heard about them until the concert and enjoyed the hell out of it. At one point the lead singer was talking about how music brings people together. Metal is for anyone regardless of age or skin color. He gave a shout out to an older couple, then saw a little girl in the balcony. She couldn't have been more than 12. He asked if it was her first concert and she said yes. He tossed his sunglasses up to her. "SEE!? Metal is for all!" Other songs by Sabaton to check out: Soldier of Three Armies, Night Witches, Inmate 4859, The Ballad of Bull, and To Hell and Back. Those are my personal favorites.

"why does he have to be a monster on the drums?!?!" - Because, honestly, do you expect someone like Floor to settle for anything less? "Is this the movie Dunkirk or is this a music video?" - It's a music video, but one that was made in collaboration with Wargaming, the producers of the game World of Warships. The battle scenes and warship CGI is all them. Sabaton's normal videos are also really good, but not on this level of production quality. Say about WG what you will, but their CG team is aces. The video shows (part of) the story of the historical Bismarck's demise. Ark Royal's torpedo bombers landing a lucky hit at the stern disabling its rudder and forcing it to sail in circles, Rodney's lucky hit on Bismarck's bridge, the sheer violence of a small Royal Navy fleet beating the absolute crap out of Bismarck ... She set sail with 2200 souls in her crew. 114 survived. For a Sabaton song that tears the heart, Price of a Mile. It's about the WWI battle of Passchendaele, which has become synonymous with the futility and loss and suffering of war because of the hellish conditions. The song itself is - .... IMO the best and most emotionally powerful that Sabaton has ever written.

Here's a quick history lesson about he Bismarck. Launched in 1939 for the Kriegsmarine in honor of the famous General von Bismarck, she was the biggest warship in the Atlantic ocean. (Unless you count the Indomitable Aircraft Carrier Class, but they don't count). She left Port with an escort of several dozen ships and then broke off with Battle cruiser K.M.S Prinz Eugen. She only went on to sink one ship, which just so happened to be the pride of the British Navy: Battle Cruiser H.M.S Hood. She was later sunk by British Battleship King George V, after being pounded with 400 17 inch shells and hit with 5 torpedoes. Her sister ship and only other Battleship of the Bismarck class, K.M.S Tirpitz, went on to sink many British and American naval vessels and convoys until she was eventually sunk by and American submarine called U.S.S Glory.

Tirpitz never sank a single ship, she spent the war hidden in Norwegian fjords going out on very few occasions. I saw this song in concert with them: most magical thing, seeing a entire crowd rocking back and forth, Fist pumping as a choir sings the main chorus.

Find a live video from Sabaton. They are hands down the best live show I've ever seen. So much energy on stage.

Even better than Nightwish? Lol
@mattsummey2435 жыл бұрын
@@isaiahwelch8066 Yep. Nightwish is better recorded and overall for me. But yeah. Never been to anything like a Sabaton show. They were an opener and honestly I don't even remember who headlined that night....

@@mattsummey243 : Honestly, I'd like to see a collaboration between Floor and Tuomas of Nightwish and Sabaton. I think Tuomas could make any song about military history epic.

Don't get jealous man, but the drummer is Floor's husband ;)

Sabaton sings about actual historical events. As a massive fan of history, they are my favorite band. Some songs to check out: Primo Victoria- The D-Day invasion 40:1- The Battle of Wizna Poland, where 720 Polish soldiers held 40,000 Germans for 3 days The Last Stand- The Last stand of the Swiss Guards in 1527 Screaming Eagles- The 101st Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge (think Band of Brothers). Fields of Verdun- The Battle of Verdun Aces in Exile- Foreign fighter pilots in the RAF during the Battle of Britain. Actually, check out all of their songs. It is impossible for them to make a bad one.

Sabaton is my favorite band of all time and when you know the actual military history the songs are about, it makes it even better. Nothing gets me more hyped on my way to the gym than listening to the Last Stand album. I'd definitely recommend every one of their songs but you should definitely learn the historical events they're about. They have a Sabaton History channel that talks about all their songs and the events that inspired them.

Awesome trivia: The captain of the boat that took the band out to sea, was the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck, the survivor was meant to be in the video but was in failing health, his son then took his place.

Sabatons Feature Song (Ghost Division) deals with Rommels Tank Division in France. This lead to a collaboration between Sabaton and the Developers of "World of Tanks". This Video is a collaboration with the spin-off "World of Warships". They use the CGI from this game in the Video.

The thing that sets Sabaton apart from all the other groups....as far as I know and have heard, they only create songs and music based on actual battles that have taken place in world history. I think that is why everyone loves them, to include me. I might hear a song and, while knowing what is stated above, will want to know more about the battle or the person the song might be centered upon. Keep up the good work. Love seeing the interaction between you and the songs!!

Definitely check out their Sabaton History channel as well, it's the projector icon at the lower left at the end of their video. They go over the different real life historical events & people that the band sings about!
