You should always do it, but then again it gets annoying after a while. The dead don't dance very well and you get all tired. And then the screaming kind of gets on your nerves.

I was into Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax already. Slayer was the “scary” and “Satanic" band. The most bad ass kids in school, the ones with the creepy sunken eyes, were the ones with the Slayer t-shirts. Then I started listening to Monday Night Mayhem, on WSOU, the radio station of Seton Hall University in NJ. They played the craziest thrash and early black metal bands. I’d be in bed at 1AM, with my crappy headphones attached to my crappier red Radio Shack boombox, getting chills from listening to insane Slayer riffs. The rest of my life has been spent screaming SLAYER!!!!! at my frieneds from across busy streets.

Oh, how I missed those days. They played the best music back in the day. Loved how they called Sayreville Slayerville. From what I hear, they don't play Slayer anymore on the station. Was surprised they played Metal at all on a Catholic university radio in the first place. Very grateful they did tho. S-L-A-Y-E-R !!!!!!!!

I'm 50yrs old, I've been to 37 Slayer concerts, across 26 states, and 3 different countries. I witnessed(and felt), the Raining(stage) Blood, caught(or found on the floor) 19 guitar picks(Jeff, Kerry, Tom), caught 2 drum stick(1 Dave, 1 Paul). I even trash dug a faulty mic cord that Tom threw away backstage. I still own the concert t-shirt that my cousin bought me, at my first slayer show(I was 11 years old). I have countless other concert T's, jacket patches, and even multiple inlay cards for cassette tapes. I couldn't bring myself to throw them away, when I, bought a new album, because the old one wore out. Multiple Slayer tattoos are all over my body. I even got to meet them, and BS with them(pre-Bostaph) multiple times. Or at least what a fan would consider "BS-ing"with their favorite band of all time. Every single time I hear Slayer… I still get wicked excited, and feel just as motivated by their music, as I did the first time I heard them. Hell... I even learned to play drums, because I considered Dave Lombardo the God Of Thunder, and I wanted nothing more than to be just like him(no offense to Paul Bostaph). 🤘💀🤘

I saw SLAYER live in 2010 at Sonisphere in Finland and got an entirely different respect for them than I had before that concert, old men still playing like they were 20! Also when they came on stage the sky turned gray and Arya cracked a joke that this always happens at their gigs, then when they started Raining blood it started raining sideways and storming so heavily that some of the restaurant tents fell apart. That moment is ingrained in my head as one of the most memorable things in my life, and made Slayer one of my favorite bands of all time!

I was there too. Fortunately they just got to play their whole set to the end before the damn storm really hit and almost all the rest shows of the evening had to be cancelled due to it. I remember hearing the loud thunder thru Slayer's playing and thinking if it was an actual thunder or was it some backing track. During the show I concluded it had to be the latter, but eventually stood corrected in the middle of the fucking field with 2 of my friends barely able to breath in strongest storm-wind I've ever seen before or since 😂

First Slayer records I got into was Divine Intervention, shortly after it was released. I had found raw sounding music few years earlier in hardcore punk and then thrash metal. Sepultura and Slayer was my introduction to metal music in general. I like most of Slayer records but I would say that my fav is Divine Intervention and South of Heaven. I wish we see Slayer Part II. There is a lot of insane tunes left to hear in their catalog after Seasons in the Abyss. \m/

Glad you are diggin SLAYER ! To me, they have always been the big "1". NO pretense, no b.s., in your face aggression at it's best. They influenced and directed the course of metal more than maybe any band in history, other possible challengers would be motorhead and well, that's about it. The panning between guitar solos as you put it, is the two different guitarist in the band playing solos. I've seen SLAYER play live many many times and am sure that they are the greatest live band ever. The interaction between the band and the crowd and just the intense feeling and aggression in the crowd is unmatched. Long live SLAYER AND RIP JEFF........

I discovered them in 85 when I was in high school. To say me and my friends were indulging in a lot of substances would be putting it lightly. We would drive around constantly blaring from my parents car bands like Suicidal Tendencies, Exodus, Venom, Possessed, Death Angel but the most played and most revered was Slayer Hell Awaits from beginning to end daily. The first two songs on Hell Awaits are still my favorite things ever and you should go delve into those immediately!

It's funny how you mention being 16 at the time when REIGN IN BLOOD came out. It came out one week after my 17th birthday, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that it completely blew my head off. There was nothing else like it, and to be perfectly honest there are only a handful of albums in this genre from that period that have held up as well. I never, ever thought I would be listening to it for the rest of my life but I just turned 53 and I listened to it yesterday. Thank you for this reaction and passing along the music.

Great choice of songs, and glad you like Slayer, wasn't sure you would because it's not for everyone. It would be worth your time if you did a whole album reaction for Hell Awaits, with all songs in the original recording version. It's my favorite Slayer album, and it sounds more dark and evil then many black metal bands that came after it, while Slayer isn't even a black metal band of course. I don't think you can match this 1985 production anymore with all this digital equipment they use today. Anyway, thanks for your video's, I really like them!

Picking their debut isn't a mistake, that's a good one, it's just different from most of their catalogue, they really formalised their sound on Reign in Blood. I think it also influenced early black metal bands, as well as death metal. I don't think the title track is necessarily the best song on there though, I'd say Antichrist, Black Magic, Live by the Sword and Metal Storm/Face the Slayer are the highlights. Chemical Warfare is another good early one. Oh, and speaking of release dates, they did push out a lot of content early on. Show No Mercy in 1983, Haunting the Chapel and Live Undead in 1984, Hell Awaits in 1985, and Reign in Blood in 1986. Then they slowed down a bit, both musically and with their releases. As for swearing in music, it wasn't super common, but I wouldn't say it never happened. John Lennon dropped a couple of f-bombs in Working Class Hero in 1970. As for the Big Four, I think Dave might have sworn in Megadeth's cover of These Boots, but the version of their first album that included that song got pulled and the rerelease had all the lyrics bleeped out, I'm not sure exactly what he said. I think Metallica has done it a few times: on Damage Inc, their cover of So What, and The Unnamed Feeling, but Slayer definitely did it the most.

You're hearing the leads panning back and forth between ears because you are hearing 2 lead guitarists going back and forth in a fashion resembling a duel between dual guitarists. Jeff Hanneman is all the noodling leads, and Kerry King is all the odd wails and sounds type of leads for the most part. RIP Jeff Hanneman

Great choice from Hell Awaits. At Dawn They Sleep from Live Intrusion 1995 is my favorite recording of the song.

I was into punk and thrash before, but hearing Slayer's SOUTH OF HEAVEN in 1988 (junior high school) rocked my world. That transition into Silent Scream!!!! Those drums!!!! Seen them live many times. I'm actually in a crowd photo in their live album DECADE OF AGGRESSION which was recorded during the "Clash of the Titans" tour in 1991, in Lakeland Florida (touring with Anthrax and Megadeth). Love them and love seeing people react to them. My BIG 5 (for thrash) would be Slayer, D.R.I., Sepultura, Pantera, and Vio-Lence. D.R.I.'s 1988 album FOUR OF A KIND also shook me.

When this came out, I learned to play the album on guitar in about a week. I was already playing mostly Metallica and Anthrax and could play all of the first 3 Metallica albums. This album was brutal to learn and play. Talk about feeling like your forearm is on fire…Even though I was used to extended duration fast riffs, this album just ramped it up to another level. It literally hurt to play until I built the stamina up to be able to play it start to finish without having to pause in the middle of songs.

When Slayer went into the studio to record South of Heaven, they decided to slow down the tempo, thus it got heavier, than the predecessor.

I saw SLAYER 3 times. And I was blown away. They were so pummeling and the vibe was spooky! Today I would not be down for a Slayer show (if they still played), probably. The world has gotten more tense. Btw I highly recommend the bands Kreator and Napalm Death!

I've saw Salyer multiple times over the years. Sorry, no pics as we didn't have cell phones for those events. We were so much in the moment of the show and the pit, even if we had phones, I don't think too many pics would have been taken. Amazing live shows.

Saw them 6 or 7 years ago at an outdoor venue. The show was postponed due to thunderstorms. It was still raining when they went on. When they played Reign in Blood it was epic, one of my favorite concert experiences..also no Angel of Death on this list is a sin

Slayer's drummer Dave Lombardo has been the Misfits (Danzig etc) drummer for all their reunion shows. Which he slays. But Slayer's drum parts are more more varied and overall complicated than Misfits drummers.
