Cornell Said that he wrote the song in a matter minutes after mishearing something on the radio that sounded like a news anchor saying "black hole sun. but he also said a black hole is a billion times larger than a sun, it's a void, a giant circle of nothing, and then you have the sun, the giver of all life. It was this combination of bright and dark, this sense of hope and underlying moodiness

No, don't check out Audioslave, by far the most generic, uninteresting music in Chris's catalog. Unless you're a 55 year old accountant then that's right up your alley but do many more Soundgarden songs and Temple of the Dog before you go to that.

@@FURTHER_ADO how do you feel about RATM? just curious because there is nothing generic or uninteresting about Audioslave. Audioslave-Like a Stone, Audioslave was a super group with Chris Cornell on vocals and members of Rage Against the Machine. This song foreshadowed what Chris Cornell was feeling 15yrs before his death. At first listen it sounds he's talking about a girl but he's actually talking about waiting for death. RIP

Soundgarden were the best band in Seattle, and Chris Cornell was the most talented… even though Nirvana was my favorite. The Screaming Trees were also one of the best Seattle bands. The singer had a side project with Kurt from Nirvana, and went on to sing as a guest for the Queens or the Stone Age. The Trees’ biggest hit was Nearly Lost You, which was on the Singles soundtrack along with Soundgarden and Chris Cornell solo. Other Trees songs were Shadow of the Season, Butterfly, and Dollar Bill.

Its funny, because in an interview Chris Cornell said that this is one of the few songs he wrote lyrically just playing with words and that it sort of worked out. I think this song just represents the feeling of hope that everything you deem unfair will disappear but maybe deep down you know it wont. But that is just my opinion. Also be sure to check out Fell On Black Days and if you want some more heavier tunes from Soundgarden I would suggest New Damage, Outshined, Rusty Cage and such. Sadly, singer Chris Cornell is no longer w/ us... he took his own life after a Soundgarden concert in 2017 (R.I.P. 😪) He had a long career w/ Soundgarden, solo records... a stint as Audioslave (w/ members of Rage Against the Machine) ... Temple of the Dog. 'Black hole sun' was a dark song lyrically, about the hope of a 'black hole' wiping out existence and taking all the pain & misery away... A lot of Chris Cornell's lyrics were very morbid. Audioslave's "Like a stone"... "Show me how to live" ... With Soundgarden, he wrote 'Blow up the outside world' ... 'Pretty noose' ... 'The day I tried to live' ... 'Burden in my hand' ... 'Fell on black days'... Then In retrospect, Chris Cornell privately had a hard time living his life... sad to say... An iconic voice in rock music 🤘🤘 Chris Cornell (vocals & guitar) formed Soundgarden in the 80's in Seattle... they were a big part of the indie rock/metal scene, featuring Kim Thayil (lead guitar), Matt Cameron (drums) & Hiro Yamamoto (bass)... "Screaming life" & "Fopp" EP's were followed by the album 'Ultramega OK' in 1988... They were signed to a major label A&M Records in 1989 and released 'Louder than love' - Ben Shepherd (bass) replaced Yamamoto in 1990. The album 'Badmotorfinger' in 1991 went gold in the wake of Nirvana's success... Cornell's Temple of the Dog record also hit platinum in 1992 (It was a somber record written as a mourning for late singer Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone) After Nirvana ended in 1994, it was Soundgarden's turn to go big w/ the 'Superunknown' album that year, hitting #1 on the US charts and selling 4 million copies... 'Black hole sun' was a huge single from that record. In 1996, Soundgarden returned w/ the album 'Down on the upside' which sold 2 million copies... but tensions were pulling the band apart. In 1998, Soundgarden announced that they were splitting up. Matt Cameron (drums) joined Pearl Jam as a full time member. After solo records and 3 albums with Audioslave, Chris Cornell reunited Soundgarden in 2010 and released the 'King animal' album in 2012. The band was working on new music in 2017, when Chris Cornell unexpectedly took his own life in a hotel room after a Soundgarden show...😪

With Chris, if it hasn't been said already, you'll get many different styles. Soundgarden is a great band, he was also in Audioslave (another band worth checking out that I haven't seen mentioned) and Temple of the dog and he did a lot of solo work as well. Overall an amazingly talented individual unfortunately lost to this world entirely too soon. Notably imo songs that should be checked out by chris : Temple of the Dog- Say Hello to Heaven/ Huger strike. Audioslave- Show me how to live / Like a Stone/I am the highway. Soundgarden- Pretty Noose/Blow up the outside world/ spoonman/ The day I tried to live/Jesus Christ Pose Solo work by Chris- When I'm down/ Preaching the end of the world/ (Cover) Patience/ (cover) Nothing compares 2 u. That's really just the basic start, but I am sure a lot of people would agree with those songs. He's in my top 10 artists of all time, along with another GOAT you should definitely check out called Type O Negative... If you ever want suggestions for them, I'd gladly give them to you. Anyway, I've been watching you guys for a while, you're doing a great job and your baby is adorable, so I subscribed.

Ok...so Juice Wrld always referenced being "lost in the Abyss" right? The meaning is basically the feeling of hopelessness, dread, and sadness, normally caused by depression , personal problems, or LACK of EMOTION. The people in the video are basically 'lost in the abyss'. They try to hide behind image of suburban lifestyle, but their just as fkd up as anyone else and their emotionless but try to put on fake expressions of happiness to appear to be what they consider "normal". This sort of like Chris's view on most of the people in society, especially the ones in power and those who damn others for being different, but their true selves. "In my eyes, indisposed, in disguises no one knows, hides the face, lies the snake". The video shows Chris in the clouds looking down at the chaos with the face of not giving a fk. He had said something in an interview like, that he told the director that the band wasn't going to go out of their way to please others and they were basically going to look like they didn't want to do this anymore. So, while he is being his true self, he is now above the world that he refused to be apart of, as that world gets wiped out. I guess it's sort of like how in every era there is an empire that sways the society of which they rule to their demise. Their supposed to be for the people, but really their snakes that only care about what affects them personally. "Black hole sun, wont u come and wash away the rain?" So, I also have thought that "rain" has a double meaning. I think it also means "reign", he is pretty much begging for the "Black Hole Sun to come and wash away the reign". Get rid of all of it and start from scratch.I believe "hole" can be a double for "whole", just bc since the 'Black Hole' is so much larger than the sun, it can swallow it whole. 'Black Hole' represents "void", a giant circle of nothing (dark) and the 'Sun' represents the giver of life (light). Even though the 'Sun' is surrounded by darkness it is still a bright light, and the beaken of hope. It might be small as hell and really can't be seen, but it's there. Idk I can be wrong. I was so young when this song/video dropped, but now as an adult I see it as way more than a cool video. I always look forward to ur videos bc I love seeing your genuine curiosity of actually wanting to learn more. Keep up the grind my guy🖤

Fun fact: Chris Cornell's vocal ability was on par with most opera singers (Before the drugs and alcohol broke him down)

Among these bands, my favorite was always the Stone Temple Pilots. Plush, Big Empty and Dead and Bloated are all great songs but, you have to start with arguably their greatest hit, Interstate Lovesong.

A black hole happens when a star supernovas, or explodes. He's asking for the sun to explode to end human existence.

I wish they would make videos like these now. Now it's just how many views they can get don't get me rowing that's not a bad thing. I just wish it would be more. And more thoughts into it. I think it's about drugs and the human experience. Of life I guess.
