This song was written by guitarist Alvin Lee, who was the centerpiece of the group. "I'd love to change the world, but I don’t know what to do and I'll leave it up to you. I'm just saying the world does need changing," he said of the song in Vintage Rock. "I'd love to do it, but I haven't got the talent. I don't think I'm a world changer." The song is a good look at what were considered the big problems in the world in 1971: overpopulation, economic inequality, pollution, war. Alvin Lee often said in later interviews that the song remained just as relevant despite the passage of time.

Always liked this song since I was a little kid. Still relevant today. Same social issues way back in 71 as there is now. If anyone tried to remake this classic it would not bring it justice. It needs to be left alone. Like BJ said it’s timeless

I WAS EXPECTING THE OLD COCA COLA SONG.... " I'D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING IN PERFECT HARMONY.... stupid me.... Still that song was the TOTAL OPPOSITE of the message of this one...... SAME ERA. Think about it??? It shows we were the same and no new worse wokeness destruction. Just more able to be seen on TV especially cable. Still Europe has all shown for decades. We still do not unless private viewing. Still some SAY CIVIL WAR to eliminate what this song said was there with the FREE LUV HIPPY GENERATION. That generation DID NOT DESTROY US. Their music was hated by previous generations as their parents yet today classic and good ole days. WE WILL SURVIVE UNLESS EXTREMIST WANTING TO CANCEL those different take up ARMS that certain leaders may call again.....

Something we all can do to contribute to changing the world is to show love and respect for each other, no matter what our personal differences might be. I saw this band back in the 1980. They were headed to their next concert from Seattle down to Portland. It was at the Paramount in Portland, and Alvin Lee stepped out on the stage when they were suppose to start at around 8:00pm. But the equipment trucks were still on the I-5 Southbound with all the instruments. He apologized and said that anyone who wanted to get a refund on their ticket could, but if those who chose to stay and wait it out for the equipment trucks to arrive, he promised to put on the best show you will ever see! So being a young teenager with my friends, we all stayed the extra couple hours until he could go on. The concert started at around 10:45pm and he played late into the next day, the concert was over around 1:30 AM in the morning. It was an epic concert. And yes Alvin Lee was very much over looked as a guitarist. Great band. Great memory.

The guitarist is Alvin Lee, who is also the singer. Alvin is most famous for his 13-minute riff in "I'm Coming Home" which he performed at Woodstock in 1969. Fellow performer at Woodstock Jimi Hendrix is said to have described Lee as a gas on the guitar. George Harrison admired Lee so much he played a slide guitar solo in Lee's "The Bluest Blues." Mostly ignored or underrated by today's rock guitar aficionados, I believe he is at least in the same league as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Van Halen, Clapton, and the great Jimmy Page. Page once remarked that Alvin Lee was the only guitarist he would pay money to see in concert. You should hear him play "The Bluest Blues." I think it is his best work. He makes that guitar sing!
