That instrument is called a horse head fiddle or a morin khuur. Mongolians play it the way that we play a guitar in the west. Traditionally, it is strung with two strings - the larger of the two strings (the "male" string) has 130 hairs from a stallion's tail, while the "female" string has 105 hairs from a mare's tail. For the correct spirit, the strings should be made from your own horses' tails. (Now they are often made from nylon.) The height of skill is to make it sound like a horse neighing. A lot of the singing you are hearing is traditional throat singing.

Need more education like your comment. I personally find it disrespectful to compare indigenous music, a horsehead fiddle and throat singing from Mongolia a thousand years old to westernized heavy metal music.
@lakelili
@lakelili 4 жыл бұрын
@@l.c.345 The band is highly respected in Mongolia, its principal members - band members TS Galbadrakh (Gala); B. Enkhsaikhan ( Enkush); G. Nyamjantsan (Jaya); and N. Temuulen (Temka) - having been awarded the highest state award for Mongolia, the Order of Genghis Khan, for promoting Mongolian culture around the world. The band calls their style of music "hunnu rock". Their name inspired by the Hunnu, the ancient Mongolian empire known in the West as The Huns. They have based of many of their lyrics on Mongolian poetry and included include old Mongolian war cries. Their lyrics are a call to their people to remember where and who they come from and who they can become again. Their instruments may be traditional, but they are also used by many modern Mongolian musicians and some are even "electrified" - like the tovshuur, the two or three-stringed lute played by Temka. The Hu have chosen to extend their reach by posting their music on the KZbin platform and by performing on the heavy metal European and North American concert circuit. They are also collaborating with a number of Western artists like, Lizzy Hale of Halestorm and Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach. Additionally they have written music for video games like "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order." The comparrisons and alliances with heavy metal are their own. As an aside, they have a great "in the kitchen" series on KZbin right now and the cook Mongolian food around the globe while waiting to be able to perform.

The band has very strong instrumentalists. The song is undeniably catchy. I don't remember the literal translation. If you come as jackals, we will become wolves, come as evil wolves, we will become tigers, come as a flock of crows, we will become falcons, we do not seek enmity, but if the enemy comes, we will all become fierce warriors. Something like that.

Thank you very much for your reaction! Wild and charismatic guys:))) This mixture of tradition and heavy metal is surprising. We have a lot of proficient throat singers in Russia, but metal+tradition is something new. I don't think it's their best song, but it reflects the way Mongols conquered and terrified the whole world. Difficult to imagine, but Mongol warlord Subede was the only, THE ONLY man in history to successfully fight in Russia in winter. Respect! Even Russians stopped all wars for winter, but he could win. In 800 years Subede's remote descendants, the independent Tuva, were the first to give the USSR their best snipers, nothing to say about food, horses and winter clothing for our fight against Nazi Germany. The HU have a very famous producer with a very good education in music. He promotes nearly all best musicians in the country. It was his idea to make a heavy metal band. I read that the HU are official culture ambassadors of Mongloia to the whole world, and this title is given to them by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Their 1st album 'The Gereg' is translated as 'diplomatic passport'.

Loved your reaction to this! You don't 'need' the translated lyrics to feel what their songs are about, but it does add another layer. I've lost count of how many times I've heard this song, and it never gets old. Like several others, I'd recommend "Song of Women" featuring Lzzy Hale next, but the whole album is great. (And if you haven't gotten to the new Nightwish album, Human: Nature, you should!)

They have taken mostly traditional instruments and stylized them for metal/rock. He is “throat” singing. This is one of their first two songs. I have not looked for American subtitles so I have no idea what they are saying. I have rarely been able to understand what metal groups are screaming about anyway. I like these guys. I interpret the video as either the passing on of the Mongolian spirit to this generation or this generation respecting their ancestors in a new way. They have a lot more now on their KZbin site then they did even a year ago. In other countries there are groups that use traditional instruments for rock/metal as well.

Lol 1:20, of all the reactions I've seen to this song your is the first to have identified the person in this scene as a Mongolian soldier. Every other reaction video people are asking, "What's that" or "What's happening". That image though, of the Mongol warrior wearing his battle gear while riding on horseback with his spear, is almost exactly as those depicted in Hollywood. I don't understand how everyone else missed that. Anyway, I thought it was cool that you noticed that.

I came for the reaction of Lorna Shore's Death Portrait and others bands, and stayed to recommend Einar Selvik - Vikings Suite, Trevor Morris Live in case you want to hear something in Old Norse too.

Their singing style is NO EFFECT, called karkyraa and khoomei (Mongolian throat singing - reminds"fry vocals" of a man with bass voice, like Till Lindemann from Rammstein. It's done more using the throat and vocals chords), That horse head instrument is called morin khuur ( horse head fiddle) . Next like a guitar instrument is called tovshuur ( mongolian traditional guitar ). The Hu said they are created new genre then they called that Hunnu rock.

They aren't fighting each other they are channeling the inner warrior, and the ancestors. Throat singing isn't normally cool imo but this is just on a level of awesome. They are college professors and married , blows my mind , love it!! ❤👍

The band can be seen (and heard) playing the morin khuur-a two-stringed horsehead fiddle played with a bow-and a tovshuur-another two-stringed instrument, but played with the fingers. They also blast out their lyrics in the style of traditional Mongolian throat singers, a technique that involves producing multiple guttural pitches simultaneously. This is called throat singing It is from the steppes.Turkic peoples descended from agricultural communities in Northeast China who moved westwards into Mongolia in the late 3rd millennium BC, where they adopted a pastoral lifestyle .By the early 1st millennium BC, these peoples had become equestrian nomads. In subsequent centuries, the steppe populations of Central Asia appear to have been progressively Turkified by a heterogenous East Asian dominant minority moving out of Mongolia. Many vastly differing ethnic groups have throughout history become part of the Turkic peoples through language shift, acculturation, conquest, intermixing, adoption and religious conversion. Nevertheless, certain Turkic peoples share, to varying degrees, non-linguistic characteristics like cultural traits, ancestry from a common gene pool, and historical experiences. The most notable modern Turkic-speaking ethnic groups include Turkish people, Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Turkmens, Kyrgyz and Uyghur people. Around 2,200 BC, due to the desertification of northeast China, the agricultural ancestors of the Turkic peoples migrated westwards into Mongolia, where they adopted a pastoral lifestyle. WE believe that the wolf is our mother of all Turkic people . We are called Gok Turks meaning Sky/Blue Turks .Turkic tribes
