During the 1960's and 70's young soldiers were sent to fight for their very lives in the jungles of Viet Nam. Many of them received letters from their girlfriends & wives telling them they were not welcome home. The hurt, pain and anguish made them feel like jumping off a mountain, find a cave and crawl in and die or ride a train till it ran out of track so that no one would ever know what happened to them. "Can't you see, oh can't you see what that woman's been doing to me"?

Ive always seen it as the Allman Brothers were the blues/jazz version of Southern Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd was the rock version, and Marshall Tucker was the country version.

Toy Caldwell lost both his younger brothers (Tommy next to him playing bass and his youngest brother Tim) within a month of each other in 1980 to car accidents. He was also a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War combat vet (WIA). That's him singing with incredible soul and thumbpicking that beautiful Gibson Les Paul. Thank you for everything brother. Rest easy.

Your reactions are really very good. Hope you do more - and more frequently. It’s a lot of fun watching younger people react to great music from my era of music - but it’s even more fun when they are from a different culture and learning about this music. Toy Caldwell, the guitar player who was also singing this song serves in the U.S. Marine Corp in the Vietnam war and was shot in combat. He received the Purple Heart medal for wounds received in action. He died after the war from unrelated causes - but still far too young.

Listen to some Kansas, some Boston, some Chicago, some CSN (Crosby, Stills, and Nash), Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt Bob Seger, Journey, Billy Joel, Supertramp, Heart, Three Dog Night, Simon & Garfunkel, and so many more. Thank you for sharing this video. I admit had a good laugh when Carol exclaimed “shame on her!” 😂 I agree! That witch! This is a beautiful, simple song about heartbreak, and it’s darn near perfect. Hence, it is widely considered the quintessential Southern Rock anthem. The video you reviewed was shot at the Grand Opera House in Macon, Georgia, in 1973. It was great to see you guys appreciating the amazing talent of the Marshall Tucker Band, but, incredibly, they were not even the headline act at this concert! They opened for the Allman Brothers Band that night at the concert you just watched. In a lovely venue with great acoustics that seats only about 1,000 people. And the opening act put out this amazing song live on the first try, no do-overs. Wow, right? In my version of heaven, this concert is about to start, and I’m holding tickets for the best seats in the venue. I love to see people from elsewhere appreciating our music. I have lived in Macon for 25 years, and we are quite proud of our musical heritage here. This concert is a piece of that history and I thank you for sharing it.

Hello guy's, the video quality isn't the best, but it's such a great glimpse back in time and it's so great to see (baby face)Toy Caldwell perform. RIP: Toy Caldwell 💔🔥U R Missed I wonder if you'd like to listen to another song by the Allman Brothers Band. I believe you've reacted to one or two of their songs, and seemed to like them. If so then, here's a live performance "The Allman Brothers Band - Soulshine - 8/14/1994 - Woodstock 94 (Official)" Really great reaction and much appreciated, thanx 4 sharing👍

That baby face Toy was a Vietnam purple heart war hero. Grew up in area, upper South Carolina, our boys. Toy had his beard within a year??? He and his brother, Tommy (played bass) played with their thumbs. Saw them in concert. Saw Toy sit in with other band. Sadly, Tommy lost his life in an auto accident about a week after their youngest brother had the same fate in 1980. Toy played with MTB another couple of years and left the band. another band, The Toy Caldwell Band. Toy passed away age 45 in 1993. Proud to have grown up in that era; music was good. No autotune. You either had the goods (talent) or not. They did.

My main biographical song. After having your heart ripped out by a woman, or women, is not something you want to go through at any time and never quite goes away. They made flute playing cool in southern rock just like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull did and how Kansas did with a violin.

Southern bands are the best and back then southern girls flat out wild and crazy especially those that lived back in the hills. Drinking moonshine and no police. They were known as Hillbillies back in the 50s and 60s. Spent time back in the hills of southeastern Kentucky and North eastern Tennessee in Coal country. Great music they played.

"Everything was different back then" ... and all was different for the better .. music, tv, movies, people, culture, morals, ideas, creation, productivity, education .. The generation growing today are like the Borgs. One mind. One thought. No one can think outside the box. Most are afraid to speak their own mind on any topic. When you do .. there is an apology afterwards for saying it. Time this country get back to basics. What's important and what's not. Or this nation is screwed. Won't be ANY PLACE in the world people can migrate to to be protected and FREE.
