Double Ditto Brothers. Today is my 71st birthday If you are like me, this music takes me back to my early teen age years. This was the kind of music that shaped a generation. One of my early favorites was "Rhythm of the Rain by the Cascades" Thanks Jay and Amber for reacting to all kinds of music. To be perfectly honest, there is some music that I have to skip over because it just isn't me. But I have followed you from Jays doing reactions by himself to the first song the two of you reacted to as a couple, and I know that eventually you will get around to some earlier music. Big Kudos to both of you and your kids.

Thankfully, we have KZbin where we can look up all the music we missed. One thing that KZbin cannot reproduce is the culture shock that usually accompanied such musical releases. I was in elementary school when Michael Jackson's Thriller was released. I was only vaguely familiar with popular music having been raised on John Denver, Elton John, Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, Barry Manillow, etc. When Thriller came out it was everywhere. My school PE class performed a dance to "Beat It"; my sister bought the record album; we recorded The Making Of Thriller TV special off of TV and watched it frequently (it might have been the thing that introduced me to "Weird" Al.) I became pretty familiar with several songs from Thriller... and that was without ever listening to the radio! I can't imagine the culture shock when the Beatles arrived.

Growing up in the 60s The Seekers were my favourite group. Judith's voice was and remains the best I've ever heard and their harmonies were just beautiful. They split up way too early because Judith wanted to pursue a solo career. Despite the stress of the break-up, (the boys did not want to split) they remained friends throughout their lives. Judith died a couple of years ago and was given a state funeral. It would be great if you could watch their rendition of "I Am Australian" which many people would like to become our national anthem. It was written by Keith Woodley, one of the band members. Beautiful people who made beautiful music.

@@justlinsu I see your point. However, the Olympics is all about forging unity between nations and think the words reflect that. Aussies here. It's the folk-rock sound of the 60s. Judy Durham passed away in late 2022. So the obits reminded us of The Seekers. One song I remember was "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing." It was originally a Coca-Cola commercial that was so popular that somebody decided to add and modify the lyrics, and it was put out by The Seekers and got them another hit.

A World Of Our Own is a song that resonates with my wife and I for the very reasons you mention Amber. I have been happily married to my wonderful wife for 43+ years now and she always smiles when we hear this song for the exact reasons you list. When the Stars Begin To Fall gives you a little more of Judith's incredible range. That video is on a New Years Eve cruise, I believe when they were on the cusp of hitting it big. There is a note she hits in there that is remarkable. We shall not be moved, also live is awesome. The old spiritual Just a Closer Walk With Thee by them is also remarkable from an old B/W live performance. That last one features Judith more substantially. Great female vocalist. A different Female Friday suggestion would be Someday Soon by Judy Collins. A cross between country and a love ballad and exquisitely done by her.

the positivity and optimism of the 60s is something we sorely need today, but sadly i don't think we'll ever get that back unless the younger generation is willing to carry the torch into the future. people in their teens and twenties mock the "boomers" because they don't know what it's like to have to fight for freedom of expression. as the flower children of the 60s begin to die off so are their hopes and dreams of a world without war, famine, and hatred. wake up!!!

This reminds me of Spanky and Our Gang. Very close to the same sound. If you look at this group try 'Lazy Day"

The Seekers were another great Australian folk pop band from the 60's. Judith Durham had such a beautiful voice. She just passed away recently. They had so many great hits including "Georgy Girl", "The Carnival Is Over", "Morningtown Ride", "Someday, One Day" etc. They have beautiful voices & harmonies. They don't make nostalgic music like this anymore. Reminds me of a simpler time.

For female Friday I hope you eventually get around to reacting to Mary Hopkin - "Goodbye". Been trying to request it for at least a year. A Paul McCartney written and produced the song.

There was so much more to Judith Durham than this. She was also a classically-trained pianist to concert level and a talented jazz singer.
