I am a 70 year old white man. This is one of the greatest groups of all time. The song has real power. I grew up on Motown. Before the new rock and roll era, this was the music we listened to. Young people today have lost their soul.

My Brotha D from QB , Back in the 60 and 70s it was unanimous amongst Blacks and most White people that the Temptations were the Coolest, Smoothe sounding and Best choreographed R&B group, PERIOD ! The Temptations dominated, because they were so cool and there were so many great Temptations songs to enjoy. If you want to get into the Temptations, I suggest you start with THE TEMPTATION'S GREATEST HITS VOL 1, THEN VOL 2. NOTE : Their main lead singer Davif Ruffin is a legend.

Great production by Norman Whitfield, and great use of the Detroit Symphony. Another #1! Iconic. This would be, according to Otis Williams, the last, surviving, original Temptation, their last true classic and their last #1. It also won them a Grammy.

The Temps earned their second Grammy for this song. Norman Whitfield was a genius at producing these guys. Eighty percent of the songs the Temps are best known for come out of the Whitfield production years (1966-73): "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", "Beauty's Only Skin Deep," "I Wish it Would Rain", "Cloud Nine," "Ball of Confusion", "Just My Imagination", "and this song among many others. Every Whitfield album on them deserves an entire listen. His last with them, 1990, is not as highly regarded as others but it contains one of my favorite Temps songs, "Heavenly."

This is one of their best, you should do the one on soul train because David, Eddie and Paul were no longer with The Temptations and the Damon took Eddies place was only a teenager and sound the closest to Eddie. Dennis Edwards took David’s place and Richard Street took Paul’s place and they are all deceased too, what a shame . But they did have some good songs with them too.

Brotha D your comments are right on target, songs like Love Child and Papa Was a Rollin Stone are examples of how we as blacks mastered the art of celebrating through our pain. It's skill a honed on the slave plantations, sharechoppers' fields and in city slums. It was brought to perfection in the Black churches and it naturally carried over into our secular, blues, soul, and r&b music. Absorb and learn from the message; celebrate and enjoy the triumph in the music.
