I feel “White Punks On Dope” is one of those songs that people mention because of the outrageous name and haven’t listened to the song . Same with The MC5 “Kick Out The Jams”, everybody has heard of them and mention them to try to be cool but haven’t listened to them or the song and have just heard the legend

They morphed into this band in the '80s, but they did their best stuff in the '70s. They released their first album in '75, with probably their signature song, White Punks on Dope. Everybody loved it, but kids didn't know they were making fun of the life. I still have What Do You Want From Live, which I bought in 1978 when it was released. It has my all time favorite Tubes song, What Do You Want From Life. If you get to see a video of them in '77, you'll trip out. They were in a phase where Fee Waybill hilariously rewrote the book on glam rock.

I saw The Tubes in Detroit in 1975 and 1976. They were a very theatrical group and put on a show with numerous props and costumes. In 1975, when fat-back televisions were about all you could get, they filled the stage with a backdrop of fat-back tv screeens. There was a lot going on onstage, plus a lot more on those screens. This was a video made during the 1980s when they were pretty popular in that market. Peace.

Some of the guys in The Tubes are from Phoenix, AZ, and their sound is hard to define. Their sound is part pop, part rock, part synth-pop, part artsy, part new wave and a dash of punk. These guys were awesome! Thanks for playing one of my favourite 80s bands. This song was off a great concept album, The Completion Backward Principle. They also did a great mash-up song (called Dancin'?) with Olivia Newton-John in the Movie Xanadu. These guys belong to the same genre as Bryan Adams, Lover Boy, Foreigner, Eddie Money, Mr Mister, Go West, etc. It's the US, West Coast Synth Pop Rock sort of vibe.

Fun live band! I remember them playing some TV theme songs, hitting whiffle balls into the crowd with their guitars. It was a great party atmosphere.

This Band needs to be seen in Concert. They were a Theatrical band. They would “dress up” for each song they did on stage. While the band was playing, a few members were back stage changing into the next song. “The Tubes” had to be seen Live to be appreciated. Next from them, “What do you want from Life”, “White Punks on Dope”, ….. SanJoséBob

The TUBES! Satirical, ahead of their time, and you should have seen their stage show. Costume changes and everything.

Wow! This tune opened a floodgate in my mind, a gusher of 80s song possibilities for you: Re-Flex Politics of Dancing, Planet P Why Me?, Golden Earring When the Bullet Hits the Bone, Novo Combo Up Periscope. Keep the reactions coming. ;)

This song was all over FM radio in the SF Bay Area (the Tubes were from Frisco)... Cool facts: The guitar riff for "Talk To Ya Later" was created by Steve Lukather (Toto) and he played the guitars and solo on the studio recording... Her also created the solo in "She's A Beauty" . The Tubes were a CrAZy live... and Fee was a fantastic singer...
