Most older folks will think of the 1981 arcade game, 90s kids know it as a powerhouse franchise that rivaled Mario and Sonic, but 2000s kids mostly only know DK from his cameos in Mario spin-offs. I was 8 going on 9 when this game came out. I was blown away by the music in this game. I'm fortunate enough to have been around in the 90s when this game was huge. One of my best friends (whom unfortunately died 10 years ago) and I used to go cruising around in his car, and he would crank this tune loud and put it on repeat. I was in middle school when one day at a family wedding someone spotted a giant lump on my mom's throat which ended up being a thyroid tumor. I spent the weekend prior to her surgery lost in this game and particularly this song. Monday morning my dad made me go to school while my mom was having surgery. Everything went great, the tumor was bengn and it never again caused a problem, but this song is an eternal reminder of that, and it's kind of huge.
