Portrait of a Child is an adaptation of Screaming Jay Hawkins "Portrait of a Man". Here, Angelina is just doing a run-through with the band. The first thing she asks if she can start again, and they cue her in when they come back to the beginning. Then later she comments that it needs to go up a tone. It's too low. Then she wants to put her own ending on the song. This is basically the same band she recorded "I put a spell on you" with. This is just a little glimpse of the little genius at work.

The fact that a little girl from Norway could communicate with another little girl in the Middle East is not too far-fetched: Angelina's "moromor" (her maternal grandmother) is Iranian, Angelina is bound to have learned some Farsi from her, and it is a fair guess that this happened somewhere in Iran in 2012. Where Angelina's likely very limited Farsi ended, her grandmother will have filled in the gaps. A heart-warming story that just goes to show what a wonderful human being Angelina is, and the wholesome upbringing she had that is the foundation of what she is today. Jay Hawkins (author of "I put a spell on you") wrote and performed "A portrait of a man" - which, in Angelina's version obviously became "Portrait of a child"! This practice/jam session with the band that accompanied her on "I put a spell on you" is priceless. There IS a version out there with English subtitles for the Norwegian dialog where Angelina is consulting with the band "it's a bit low, should I go up an octave?" and then proceeds to do just that. This was no doubt another another Jay Hawkins arrangement by Angelina that did not pan out, did not meet Angelina's exacting 9-year old standard.

Angelina has been known as the BOSS by musicians she has worked with. Most have been much older than her and yet defer to her expertise. At the beginning of I put a spell on You she can be seen handing notes to the director about the arrangement. It's so inspiring to see what she is capable of at this age and then to grow with her as you are doing in your journey. The interview brings tears every time I hear it as the story of the shoes is so unique to her and is a window to her heart. You are correct in that most of us follow her not just because of her voice but because of her persona. Portrait of a Child was by Screamin Jay Hawkins, the same one that did, I put a spell on You. Portrait of a Man was the original title, but she changed it. Thanks for all and peace out. I didn't realize you were going to do the extra song so just a bit more here lol. Age 10 is the beginning of her magic years when the progression of her skills becomes glaringly noticeable. The relaxation and beauty of her voice in this last song is breathtaking especially for her age. You are in for a treat as you go through the 10-year-old period up to age 14 or so. It still gets better from there but in a different way.

The first time I heard/saw this performance of Unchained Melody, it was during the last minute of the song that I realized that one day she would perform this song better than anyone else ever had! Ever since 1965 when I saw Bobby Hatfield (Righteous Brothers) perform his cover of this song for the first time at the taping of the Andy Williams TV show it has been my all time favorite song, and I did not think anyone would ever cover it better than Bobby! No she did not cover it better than Bobby in this performance, but what she did do convinced me that one day she would! Sept. 22, 2023 in Portsmouth NH she slowed the song way down and poured buckets full of emotion into the performance! Within 30 seconds there was hardly a dry eye in the sold out audience! Since that night she has performed it 3 other times with her performance at the Nobel Peace Price in Dec 2023 being considered the best by many (most) the best performance ever! For me personally, having been there to hear it live, the Portsmouth performance was the best by 1/1000th of a point! having heard both Bobby's performance and her Portsmouth performance live and her NPP performance only from a recording, I rank the 3 performances - AJ(Portsmouth) #1, AJ (Nobel Peace Price) #2 and (sorry folks) Bobby's first performance on the Andy Williams show #3! I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but how many of you are old enough to have seen Bobby's performance live!

Amazing to see a young Angelina Jordan at a very young age being interviewed on National television and being so poised and competent in her answers. This is why she has become the favorite artists of so many fans all over the world, probably especially the older generation because they can really relate watching her grow from this very young age into the beautiful woman now at 18. Seeing the growth and development of this absolute child, prodigy and musical genius is amazing. But more importantly she is able to sing some of the classic iconic pop and Jazz songs from the past that a lot of us can relate to. No Auto-Tune, no gimmicks. No nothing. Just Angelina's pure voice singing. great! tunes from the past and this is what we are dearly missing these days in the pop realm of music today. Everything today is so electronically generated and has to be perfect in every way and we miss out on the authenticity of having a raw performance. that is very organic and natural and maybe has some slight imperfections but it doesn't matter because it comes from an girl delivering really fabulous vocals. Angelina Jordan, in my mind is one of those rare artists and very unique in today's music. She may never become the global superstar that maybe Taylor Swift or some of these other monster stars are becoming, but Angelina Jordan remain true to herself true to her fans who are the Angels and always deliver wonderful, heartfelt, and emotional music that will actually grab at your heartstrings each and every time she performs. Her _Lindmo_ interview is the one thing that is, I think, more directly responsible than any other single video for making me fall in love with her. I can cite a handful of other videos that definitely helped, some of which I saw before that one and some after, but that interview made me start looking at her in a totally different way. I guess that potentially sounds a bit creepy, but what I mean is, I started to understand that there was a lot more to her than simply prodigious vocal talent. In particular, that passage she reads at the end: that kind of blew my mind. I was like, "Are you effing kidding me? So, she not only sings like someone twice her age, she _writes_ like that, too?!"

The middle of the three songs you played, "Portrait of a Child" is another - like I Put a Spell on You - by Screaming Jay Hawkins... no doubt Angelina had a big hand in the arrangement (but likely with the help of the adult jazz musicians playing with her). She was saying to the musicians things like "..a bit low yes, shall we put it up a semitone"... and then she changed the ending on the fly.... The last song would likely be in many fans' absolute favourite 5 of her performances...

Interesting you missed the piano player on the rendition of Unchained Melody is the same on Portrait of a Child and l Put a Spell on You. Portrait of a Child is a blues song by Jay Hawkins who also wrote I Put a Spell on You. Same musicians too. By all accounts they really enjoyed performing with Angelina.
