Don't Cry for Me Argentina is a song in tribute to Evita Peron, the first lady of Argentina, wife to its president Juan Domingo Peron. Evita was widely loved by the working masses due to her concern and love for them. She died of cancer in 1952 and prior to her death she asked Argentinians not to cry in her death.

Her name is pronounced LAY-uh. Lea was born Feb 22, 1971 in the Philippines and has lived most of her life there (and currently resides there). She started her career at age 7 as a kid on stage in the musical THE KING AND I. Lea played her first lead role on stage in the musical ANNIE at age 9. She released her first album (which certified gold) at age 10. Between ages 7-17 Lea did theater, film, tv (including hosting a musical tv show with her brother when she was 12-14), albums and concerts. Lea was in her first year of college (age 17) studying pre-med when she auditioned for the musical MISS SAIGON. She originated the lead role in the West End at age 18 and originated the role on Broadway at age 20, winning all the major theater awards for her portrayals. Lea is the singing voice for 2 Disney princesses (the only woman with that distinction): Jasmine ("A Whole New World") and Mulan ("Reflection"). She was the first Asian woman to play Eponine in LES MISERABLES on Broadway in 1993 and was asked to play Eponine in the 10th Anniversary Dream Cast concert of LES MISERABLES in 1995. There are many more credits and accomplishments, but I won't get into all of them here. The song "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" is from the musical EVITA about the life of Eva Peron.
