I hope everyone gets the point that she married or had children with a younger version of her father, someone who has a drinking problem and can't get or keep a job. But unlike her mother she wasn't going anywhere. She didn't abandon her children, but told him to get in his fast car and drive away. Her kids won't have to go through what she did.

Thank you. I feel like all these reaction videos miss the part where she sees history repeating itself so she tells him to take his fast car and keep on driving. We don't know how her story ends, but it's a sad, not uplifting song. 😭

It surprises me how many people simply don't get it. She certainly tells the story clearly enough.

Also, “Mama went off and left him.” Not “us.” She doesn’t even consider herself worthy of counting towards her mother’s abandonment.

She is a very powerful singer/songwriter and IMO one of the most underrated of my generation. Every single song on that debut album is great. A few of the standouts are 'Talkin' bout a Revolution', 'Mountains o' Things', and "Baby Can I Hold You Tonight'. Her album 'New Beginning' is stacked with songs as well. 'Cold Feet', 'At This Point In My Life', 'Heaven's Here On Earth', and 'Smoke and Ashes' are some of my favorites.

One of the messages of this song is; women are amazing and have had enough of drunk lazy deadbeat men. Her mom had to step up for her drunk lazy dad. When momma had enough, the daughter had to step up and care for her dad. When the daughter had enough, she had to leave too. She thought she found someone but he turn out to be a drunk lazy deadbeat like her dad, so she told him to "get in his fast car and keep on driving". Almost like her moms story, except she stayed and took care of her kids not leaving them to care for the deadbeat dad, she stepped up in the end.

Fast Cars came out in the 80's right? That album sold over 6 million records in the US alone, it's like one of the best selling albums of all time because of the song

88 if I remember correctly. I was in college and recall feeling blown away by the story, the melody, the powerful changeups. To put it in context, there was no one remotely like her on the scene at the time. Black artists were just beginning to "cross over," if you will, and a black female folk/rock/country/soul artist, especially one who didn't fit the archetype of feminine beauty was groundbreaking. Such a talent. I knew what I was hearing was truly special. The story told in this song is so poignant and tragic. I feel like a lot of these reaction ppl need to really pay closer attention to the end.

I loved the tune of this song from the get go.It really hit me one summer night. I was doing what we all did. It was summer. At night the heat broke enough to feel... Humid but cool compared to most of the unbearable daytime heat. My guy licked me up in his cool charger. Went to sonic. To get a drink and wave at friends. Went to the lake. And listened to music and ...stuff. Somewhere along the line I registered. I am working two jobs, hoping this guy with kids already, grows up. But I gotta be cool girl to catch you and also got to think of the future. Mostly, I wish I could just keep on driving Really glad I stumbled on your channel. Keep up the good work. .

Stopped watching after he started reading out lyrics before they reacted. Why bother reacting if you break it down before listening

10 seconds into the song and they are analysing. They literally read out the first few lines, honestly some people are so dramatic.

Imagine being such a prima donna about a reaction of a classic song, have you nothing better to worry about? I know covid may be getting to some people but honestly there is no need.
