Waylon Jennings actually didn't show up. But MJ & Lionel wrote the song from an idea by Harry Belafonte. Quincy Jones is the producer.

Michael Jackson wrote the song along with Lionel Ritchie. Harry Belafonte had the idea to do it. Quincy Jones produced it and it was done after an awards show and recorded all night until the next morning. It won a Grammy and it raised millions for famine relief. It was an issue a beautiful and timeless song with a great message. You did a great job naming people. I understand it’s before your time. Good job!

James Ingram and hardly anyone notices the VERY gifted Jeffrey Osbourne in the choir. His "On The Wings Of Love" is gorgeous and a true timeless classic. Also, Huey Lewis, and Al Jarreau was also a great singer

YOU are the diamond! First time seeing your reactions, and I absolutely love it. It is so cool to watch first reactions to music that I knew was - even as a pre teen - extraordinarily powerful. Songs so good that you just want to listen to the one you just heard over and over, but when you would play the next song, you want to hear IT or an over. and on and on and on. Thanks Emily, count me in!

Dionne Warwick sang right after Billy Joel and Tina Turner. A cousin of Whitney Houston and sang with Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother. Warwick, one of biggest stars in pop music. With Springsteen, MJ, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles Willie nelson, Kenny, Lionel Ritchie, Steve Perry, Cyndy Lauper, James Ingram, Al Jarreau and Paul Simon sang with Kenny rogers. This was huge even when it came out playing regular on MTV, raised million of dollars. It was an event even then, like a video music Hall of Fame. Written by MJ and Lionel Ritchie, conducted and co-produced by the great Quincy Jones.

This was recorded after the Grammy awards that evening. All the talent in one place already. Prince was supposed to be there but he had his usual selfish issues and they asked him to just stay away so the song could be made….. more important than his security questions. The song was #1 for weeks upon weeks. It raised money and awareness. You just cannot do that today anymore and that’s sad.

Bob Geldoff of the Boonrown Rats was the first to come up with the idea for a benefit for families e relief in Africa. He gathere a lot of British musicians to record Do they Know it’s Chtistmas. MJ and Lionel Ritchie decided there should be an American response, and decided to set up this studio near the site of the American BBC Music Awards. Done so many of the artists were already there. There session went on all night and early morning and the next day it was up to an engineer to take all these performances and put them together in some logical order. Pairing Stevie Wonder with Bruce Springsteen was inspired, and Bob Dylan always needs to sing by himself. There was a documentary made of this called The Greatest Night in Music where you find out more. This along with the British song led to the Live Aid concert which was played live s on just about every American music station. It started early in the morning in Ki don and concluded late at night in Philadelphia.

You will NEVER see this much musical talent gathered in one recording studio today. The gravelly guy you keep asking who it is, that's The Boss: Bruce Springsteen. Apparently Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles threatened that if they couldn't get the song done in one session, that they would be the ones to drive everyone home.

Written by the late Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. As for Michael Omartian, he did programming and played synthesizer. Full credits are in Wikipedia. Classic 🙌 1980s song 🎵. In Canada 🇨🇦, David Foster organized a supergroup named Northern Lights. Bruce Allen handled the business side. Bryan Adams, Corey Hart, Geddy Lee of Rush, the late Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, Mike Reno of Loverboy and Neil Young are some of the singers. Suggested video 📹: Northern Lights perform Tears Are Not Enough. Link: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmaccoCajtaXiMU.
