In August 2022, NIGHTWISH announced the addition of Jukka Koskinen, bass,(WINTERSUN) as an official member of the band. Kai Hahto is a Finnish musician, best known as the drummer of Wintersun and Nightwish. Greetings from Finland.

Finally!! A thousand likes for the reaction, Teck! Wintersun are so criminally underrated. The level of musicianship on this song, and on most Wintersun songs in fact, is insane, off the chart. I suggest you check Darkness and Frost/Time from the same rehearsal session as your next reaction. It's way lighter that Sons of Winter...could be more your cup of tea :)

I think the most interesting part is that Jari Mäenpää composes all the parts and he mostly plays everything, too, except for the drums, on Time II.

Oh yes! Wintersun 🤟 Their music is so complex, yet catchy somehow. Glad you found them. I really hope you do more. Like loneliness (winter) that really highlights the essence of finnish melancholy and is a beautiful piece of music.

This is what you get when you let Kai compose the drum parts exactly to his liking. Jari, the main guy, composed and played all other instruments, but invited Kai to do the drums, and Kai is for once seen playing something that really pushes his limits.

Lungs - Jari contracted tuberculosis! while duing his mandatory stint in the finnish national defense and due to a late diagnosis he ended up hospitalized for months and part of one of the lungs had to be removed. I've heard both half and a quarter of that lung being mentioned but I don't think people on the internet actually know. Wintersun started as Jari's solo project, he wrote everything for this except the drums which he asked Kai Hahto to write (I'm not sure if that's how they work on later songs). Due to the low output and not that large sale numbers all but Jari are permanent members in both Wintersun and at least one other band - they have to live on something after all and Wintersun is likely only able to support even Jari thanks to several big crowdfunding campaigns (with lots of drama and some blowback). IE Kai has been in Nightwish for a long time, Jukka got recruited to Nightwish when Marko left and Teemu is in Megadeth. If you want to see Kai Hahto *really* go to town on the drums, look at old Rotten Sound (a Grindcore band) tracks from back when he was their drummer (before Wintersun).

Back in early nineties when Kai Hahto played in a death metal band called Vomiturition, he was already then known as a very talented and fine drummer. He also played for many years in the grindcore band Rotten Sound. So for us Finnish metal heads the greatness of Kai Hahto is nothing new. He has also taught many younger drummers and for a long time emphasized the importance of good posture, ergonomics of playing and keeping yourself fit as a drummer.

Well lack of knowledge here A Nightwish fans love Wintersun, also Kia and Tuomas were n a Black Metal band before Nightwish and Tuomas is talking about restarting it again well retaking it over really. But yeah Wintersun is awesome pretty sure they are Symphonic Blackened Death Metal.
@MikkoRantalainen2 күн бұрын
Yes, Wintersun is defined as "symphonic death metal" by some. It has also been classified as melodic death metal or neo-classical metal by some other people. Jari Mäenpää (the composer) used words "Extreme Majestic Technical Epic Melodic Metal" when pushed to say something to define the genre. I personally think that "death metal" should have different kind of lyrics and as a result Wintersun wouldn't count despite having blast beast and distorded vocals.

As a Christian musician, you HAVE to do some reactions to Theocracy. They are a Christian power metal band. A lot of Christian metal is pretty cheesy and not all that great (lots of good stuff too), but this band has a sizeable following among non Christians too because they are that good. Their singer is likely top 5 power metal vocalists ever, their lyrics could easily be the focus of a poetry class, and everything else is top tier too. Laying the Demon to Rest - likely their heaviest track Theocracy (song has same name as the band) - pretty quintessential track from them I Am - Longer song, excellent music and the one you'll likely want to dig in to lyrically the most Mirror of Souls - VERY long song (over 20 min) but it's beyond impressive in every regard Nailed - adds some history in as this song is about Martin Luther Rudolph vs Frosty or Wynter Fever - departure from the normal lyrical content to do silly original Christmas songs. (incredibly good, don't let the non serious subject matter fool you) they have a newish album that's been great but I am not familiar enough to really say which options are best. they've never done a bad song I know you do suggestions as a patreon perk (may have to do that to make sure you give these guys a listen) but honestly even if you just give them a listen on your own time you will be blown away.

And this wasn't even their best song but just a business card ("this is a little bit of everything we do"). For better songs, try Loneliness, Time, Silver Leaves and Storm.
