What's makes this song creepy to me is it contains a bunch of science fiction tropes and yet some of them have come true. Stories like Brave New World and 1984 mention these types of things. But in today's world we can see that humans have done just about everything that old science fiction stories treated as make believe. Fantasy has become reality. The only things we haven't done are things that we don't have the technology for...yet. The implication is scary. When we do develop the technology, we WILL use it and it will reshape our lives for better or worse.

This song came out in 1967 and in 1978 the first test tube baby came along, survived and thrived! She lived to be 64 years old and just passed away in 2020, that was scary back in the seventies! Now I see it for what it was, progress, but back then I saw it as doom for us as people!

There is a documentary you can catch from you tube called Confessions from a time traveler man from 3036 something in that format. Interesting documentary. Scary knowing for the children of tomorrow. This song was done in 1969 and I heard it in the 70s where I was teenager and back then it scared me because letting you know what the future will possibly hold. And not being said this song represents today’s happenings. Very scary.....But still a good song no matter what!!!!!

great reaction to a great song mate! omg the whole designer baby thing .. I had to learn a lot about genetic engineering for my final English exam because it was one of the main topics (I’m from Germany in case you’re wondering) and that’s definitely some crazy deep shit that could be (probably will be) in the future.. If you want to see a very great and interesting movie about the whole designer baby thing I can highly recommend „Gattaca“. It’s about a world in which normal born humans are super rare and treated as less worthy and criminals because they are not perfect compared to the designed humans and there’s basically this normal born guy who infiltrates the designer humans. The movie „The Island“ is great too.. A world where the rich can create a clone of themselves that are exploited for their organs and the only purpose of their existence is for organ donation. These clones are all held captive and let to believe they are the only humans left because the outside world is destroyed and toxic, not knowing about their actual fate. When one of the og people in the real world dies the clones are told they „won the lottery“ and are escorted to the paradise when in reality they get brutally murdered. Really great movies ! Check them out

This song came out in 1969. It was futuristic. It is so shocking to me that so many people haven't heard any of the great music from the 60s & 70s. It's unbelievable. There are international laws that forbids scientists from doing disgusting stuff. Do you think that will stop them?

To quote a famous line from one of the best TV shows form the 90’s: “There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain."

2525 isn't far away now, I don't think the song needs to be entirely accurate in its predictions, I get the feeling it's supposed to be more allegorical and poetic, that's my take anyway. The song is also written in an ever ascending chord structure, it rises up and up and then goes back to the beginning, just like the lyrics, also relating to the themes of time and humanity repeating silly mistakes through the ages, also redemption perhaps, this song is DEEP YO!! First time I heard anything to do with this song was in the movie ALIEN 3, when one of the characters is singing the lyrics right before he gets splattered by a giant fan. The lyrics always intrigued me and I only finally discovered which song it was after the internet arrived. I don't really believe in the Bible or the Christian God, that's not to say that there aren't Higher Powers at work behind the scenes of reality, whatever that really is (our perception of it is SO limited and we don't really know a lot, we're not long out of the trees where we used to swing around just like Chimps), I can well imagine there are universe creating entities, but I don't think that any singular consciousness or intent would be involved at that stage, to be that powerful you would have to leave behind such trivialities many epochs before. Trust. Nice review man, I enjoyed watching you get excited over it ;-)

News flash we developed the ability to create babies in a test tube somewhere around 20 to 30 years ago. Just look up test tube babies on the internet. And put that together with genetic engineering so if you want a boy or a girl no problem we'll make one for you. They also sang about your arms hanging limp at your sides because some machine is taking care of that for you I believe that's called prosthetics. We developed that quite some time ago also.

I live in British Columbia Canada and a short time ago all grocery stores and most retail stores stopped using plastic bags. Now there are signs saying bring your own bag. An other thing that you paused on was where the song said pick your daughters pick your sons. A doctor of fertility in Washington State has perfected a way to let parents have a boy or girl. of course someone had to take this doctor to court about it but he won the case. I totally am in favor for this procedure if someone has 3 daughters and would like a son and vise versa.

It's scary because some of these things that they talk about in the song have already come true namely won't need your arms and legs because they can now do it on the computer or your phone and you can just talk and it will automatically be done for you for your food or anything else you need and it's a way that people live nowadays as well as the children being picked out from a tube that is now happening and has happened in the last 20 years in Washington state where a man that is a specialist in fertility has now been able to figure out if you want a boy or a girl and he has done a special treatment so that they can do that and I was reading about him a long time ago and it said that he was taken to court about this thing that he is doing but he won because it was a private practice and this is what the parents would like to have done so that if there's too many boys or too many girls they would obviously want one at least of the other gender

Do yourself a favour and find the original film footage that went with the song. It was scenes from the first Science Fiction film ever made, Metropolis by Fritz Lang made in 1927. It conveys more successfully the concept of the song than the one used in this video which has an overt political agenda. This was one of the first records I bought as a teenager in 1969. This song and Question by the Moody Blues have stayed with me through my life. Both songs pose the unanswerable questions.....why are we here, and where are we going. Fritz Lang's movie was asking the same questions 93 years ago.

In my opinion you shouldn't change what God has designed. Over 20 years ago when the written word was relevant there was an article about some doctors who were fooling around with gene modification. They told this couple that their unborn child would have this terrible disease (diabetes as I recall) and if they allowed them they could possibly change that through DNA modification and they did. The child was born without diabetes but unfortunately was born with a disease that was just as bad. As I said!!
