This is the best video I've seen for beginners to learn how to hunt from a saddle. Thank you for making this! 👍

Thanks. If I could change one thing is to advise to never step onto the platform with just your lineman belt. You need to connect your tether before stepping onto the platform.

That's good info. I've recently gotten a saddle and platform but haven't put it on a tree yet. I'm 61 yo so I'll be very careful with this. Lock on stands have been my go to the last 40 years.

Great instructional video. Thank you Looking into this as another option. I just have to get passed the cost of the equipment right now. Reminds me when I hooked poles at work. Not sure how the loops sit, but over the years I always have carabiner hooks out. Another thing was measuring the distance from you to a pole/tree pit your elbow to your belly and make a fist touch the pole. This helps the hook on the gaffs stay dug it. I am pretty the same for the climbing sticks.
@NewDayOutdoors
@NewDayOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
The climbing sticks bind so tight that they do not move when set properly. As to the cost of equipment, yes that can be an initial deterant, but consider how much 3 or 4 tree stands with individual climing sticks and a good harness costs. Saddle hunting then becomes very affordable when you can take your one setup to any tree and hunt.

@@NewDayOutdoors that was in the back of my head as well. More places/locations that aren’t locked in, will eventually pay for its self What are your recommendations on saddle brands. I don’t mind the falling, just the landing. So I would want a reliable and proven company?

Trusting in my equipment, is my biggest hurdle, having fallen before, from 8 ft off an ice covered ladder, landing flat on my back, while evacuating in an ice storm. I’ve gone up close to 50 ft high in my climber stand no problem, feeling completely secure, but now older, the stand is just to heavy & bulky, not to mention noisy, so working on a change.

Saddle hunting is as safe as it gets. I have done several videos on the topic. Dig through my archives. I did a couple last winter that are very relevant for what you are looking for. Play around at a few feet off of the ground and learn the equipment and establish a system. Then you can start going higher as you get more comfortable.

I’m looking into hunting in a saddle. I stubbles upon your videos. I have to say real informative videos. Good content. Question though can you abhor a rifle out of a saddle. I gun hunt more than bow. God bless you guys!!

Nice job dad. I might have had her tether in initially at ground level to understand that process and working around the tree then graduate to using sticks and platform. Way to go
@NewDayOutdoors
@NewDayOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
I agree to a point. She has used a rope tether hundreds of times over the years connecting to traditional tree stand harnesses and rock climbing harnesses. The fundamentals are the same. She has watched me tether to the tree in my saddle many times as I have used a saddle when filming her hunts. And she had just watched me finish filming a review video of this saddle just before we filmed this. She had a solid grasp on connecting a tether. She was supported with the linesman belt at the time also. There is no way to mitigate all risk, but I think we had it covered pretty well.

@@NewDayOutdoors Great! But u were trying to show true beginners. It's all trusting when clipped in. One KZbin vid said one is none, two is one. When being tethered. Keep up the good work.

I think a saddle would be great for me this year. I found a spot this year in a terrain saddle that has a huge community scrape. Already rubs in there where the trees are slashed to pieces. It's an old select cut, though so he trees big enough to climb are either way too gnarly for a climber or giant. Most are the size of a broom handle or smaller. I do have a question. Is a tree saddle a good option for all day sits?

What is that small piece that you have on the lineman’s rope. Is that what is helping her be able to pull to tighten it?
@NewDayOutdoors
@NewDayOutdoors Жыл бұрын
It is a "tender". Those are Latitude ropes ans they come with them. Other companies sell ropes with similar devices. I think you can buy just that type of piece from Eastern Woods Outdoors too. You can even make a simple one with Paracord, I think Average Jack Archery has a video on how to do that from 3 or 4 years ago. But yes, it allows you to take up line easier because it pushes the prusik.

how high would you recommend for actual bow hunting? seems like you would really be silhouetted on the type of tree you would need to hunt out of

It is all in how you setup. I have a video that if you look up, I show how you setup relative to the wind and how to use the tree to hide you. On my channel in about March 2022. Saddle Hunting 102 is something like the title. As to how high, it all depends. I would say I am typically in the 15 to 16 feet up range. But I've hunted as low as 10 and as high as probably 18 or so.
