Siem Reap is such an awesome place! Fabulous cheap food and drinks, incredible temples and art & a funky cafe and bar scene. You’ve got to check out the fantastic initiatives to educate young Cambodians so they can learn to work in or run their own cafes, & restaurants. Eat or drink at these businesses to support the programs. Makes a great excuse to eat and drink at cool cafes! Loved my visit there last year. Second favourite place I’ve travelled to.( Ubud is my no1) 👍😊

Have a great time. My first visit there was in 2001. It was more like an outpost and very adventurous. It was the wild west. But as with most places once they get discovered they change drastically. Some of the change good and some of it not so much. In terms of the bikes, I heard that the no riding applies to Siem Reap proper and that you can still ride in the countryside. Might want to check into that. Of course things change all the time with those sorts of rules. Cambodia is a great place with lots of fantastic things to see and do, and wow so very reasonable. Great food and pleasant people who have some very dark recent history. Yet they are moving forward without forgetting their past. Enjoy.

There a phone app call Pass App and Grab. It basically like Uber/Lyft. You can pin point location on where u want to go and it tell you the price before you even ride it. That if you tried of riding the scooter, plus it cheap. Just look into it if u have time.

I am considering moving to siem reap from Michigan it makes me very happy to see you can buy kimchiin Cambodia I make my own kimchi in the United States I've been eating it since I don't know maybe I was 20? I love it I live on it and it's the healthiest thing that you can eat. So I can probably get gochujangand all the ingredients that I need like fish sauce to make my own kimchi when I move there that makes me very happy I wasn't sure if people eat kimchi in that area. I would really like to buy a small house near the border of Thailand so I can visit my friends down in Angkor Wat area but I don't know who to talk to as far as real estate agents I'm having a hard time figuring all this out

I lived in Cambodia for nine years. It's best to live near the markets and restaurants, and then ride a bicycle or walk. If a foreigner gets into an accident whilst driving a car or moto, it will always be the foreigner's fault. In nine years, I never once got stopped by the police or had to give up any money.

My understanding is nowadays a Westren driving licences does not work anymore in Thailand, you need to have an international driving licences. Last April when being on holiday in Thailand I got a ticket of 400,- Baht on the motorcycle, because I did only have a Dutch (English language) driving licence and did not have an International or Thai driving licence. Do you have a different experience in Thailand?

@DivertLiving5 жыл бұрын
Yes its only for siem reap. Weird right
@Technobby5 жыл бұрын
It's actually weird. There are many foreigners working and living in Siem Reap. Their mean of transportation is motorbike. It should not be an issue for foreigner using motorbike under 125cc engine. Just ask the place that you rented the motorbike to help with regarding this issue. Yet, for other traffic laws that we might break, they should have given the official receipt of penalty.

To rent a scooter for 1 month you can negotiate easily for 100$ in siem reap. In siem reap just tell them upfront you want to rent the scooter for 1 month and you willing to pay 100$. Also please note these scooters do not have insurance , if there is a serious accident you will have no insurance and let me tell you people drive like crazy in Asia there is no right of way expect anything. For the police , if they stop you just give them 20$ . For the internet on the phone its limited , at peak time during the day and early at night the speed are atrocious it's like barely usable.
