I'm gonna give you some advice that many others either will, or have already said. This album (and by extension, a LOT of Pink Floyd albums) should be listened to in their entirety, in running order. This album especially, because each track flows into the next. Picking an epic track like "Time" does you a disservice as a first-time listener. It'd be sort of like opening a book to a random page, and beginning reading 2/3rds down that page. You can understand the words, but they lack context. The entire Dark Side Of The Moon album is only 45 minutes long, and it's 100% pure magic. It's worth the time invested, because it's so beautifully engineered. Even if you don't react on camera to any more tracks on this album, you should absolutely sit in a dark room with the headphones on, close your eyes, and just let it take you on a ride. "Time" - it's all about exactly what you thought. Don't waste a second, because 10 years (or 20, or 30...) gets behind you pretty quick.

What a lot of younger listeners don't realize is that back in the days of listening to an LP album, you would get home, open it up and just listen to the whole thing in one go, and bands could use that medium to experiment, play, and do some really unique things without having to worry about every track being a marketable single.

If you look at the lyrics of (Time), keeping in mind previous tracks, (Breathe and On The Run) The first part is about a younger man, "kicking around", wasting his time, with "time to kill today". "Then one day you find 10 years have got behind you" - he never started his dreams, his life. "So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking" - trying to make up for lost time, but it's a fruitless effort..."the sun is the same in a relative way but your older" The universe marches on but he's now older, and "one day closer to death". "Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time, and plans that either come to naught, or half a page of scribbled lines" - you still have those dreams, those aspirations, but now life seems to interfere or you just can no longer make the effort, and instead merely "hanging on in quiet desperation". "the time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say" he's now dying and thought he'd leave behind a better legacy than he has, but instead is leaving behind so many things unaccomplished.

Welcome! Dark Side of the Moon was on the Billboard charts for 15 YEARS (1973-1988). Pink Floyd were into making "concept albums": an album whose tracks hold a larger purpose or meaning collectively than they do individually. This is typically achieved through a single central narrative or theme, which can be instrumental, compositional, or lyrical.

JoJo... I've been watching Pink Floyd reactions for going on 3 years now. After reading ALL posts to this reaction (to this point in time), I'll say this much. I agree with my PF family of die-hard fans when they say "don't ever pause during a guitar solo" on PF. Why are so many jumping on you for doing so? That's easy. David Gilmour is one of those GOAT guitarists you talk about. The man can use that guitar of his to stroke, coax, cajole, poke, prod, and even take your soul out of your body and play with it. To us PF fans...he's simply an instrument of God that HE uses to reach our spirit. Wake it up even by giving it a nudge to remind us that it's still there. Simply put.... You slammed the brakes on our "Solo Soul Ride". This was only your first PF song. You'll understand after a few songs. Speaking of which. My fan friends listed the albums of PF, from the early days with band founder Syd Barret, up to their last album "The Endless River". I'm not a fan of the early PF with Syd in the band. He was a little "too far out there" for my tastes. So I am what's considered a post Syd fan. Syd was replaced by David Gilmour (they were really good friends). If you really really want to enjoy PF, I am going to advise you not to do any of the Pink Floyd Live PULSE concert songs from 1994 (chill out fans, I'm not done) until after you have listened to the studio versions first. PF PULSE concert is one of those concerts (double DVD by the way) in which EVERY song on it blows the studio version out of the water with the exception of Great Gig in the Sky. Personally, I can go either way cuz I like both. But just a note to you. The studio version is one singer whereas PULSE took 3 to do what the one did. I would advise doing the Wish You Were Here album (front to back). It's a tribute to former band member Syd. Reaction tip.... Do Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1 - 5) first reaction (it's a long song) Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar in the second reaction video and finally, Wish You Were Here and Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6 - 9) in the last video. Have fun with this rabbit hole JoJo!!!

Glad to hear you’re enjoying your first Pink Floyd song. It is a song about life and how quickly it can go. My brother turned me on to this album in 1974 and it was life changing. It gives you the realization that when you’re young life seems long but before you know it.....you missed the starting gun and ten years have got behind you! When we’re young an hour seems like a day, a day seems like a week, a week seems like a month and a month seems like a year; after 40 a year seems like a month, a month seems like a week, a week seems like a day and a day seems like an hour! Great reaction my friend!!

You don't listen to Pink Floyd, you experience it. The lyrics come from both the words sung and David Gilmour's guitar. As most people have mentioned, Pink Floyd albums tend to have a theme and are best listened to sequentially. However, there are some standouts that stand on their own. "Great Gig In The Sky" will blow your mind by conveying a ridiculous amount of emotion with no lyrics. The album The Wall is about a musician who, through various trauma in his life, builds a metaphysical wall around himself to protect him from pain. "Another Brick in the Wall Parts 1 & 2" set the story of his schooling, and how that contributed. A banger for sure. "Hey You" is later in his journey, wondering how he escape his self-imposed isolation. Almost all Floyd songs should be accompanied by lyrics! Enjoy your journey, my friend! I came on board when you got into Rush, staying for Floyd. :)

1973 was the first time I listened to Floyd . I’m still listening 2021. I’m still hearing new tones . This music is a common thread in my life thru all these years. Good times bad times rich and broke, prosperity and travels . This music has no equal.

Love watching your reaction. You hit it on the head when you said that it makes you question your existence. The whole album is about just that. Life, death and the meaning of existence. Listen to it from beginning to end and you'll get the whole message. I am so grateful that I grew up in the greatest era in musical history. Welcome to it young man!

The album is an ode to life's journey .. The Innocence of youth. The existential crisis of middle age. Elderly years & finally the acceptance of your own mortality. It is the Mona Lisa of music. Perfect. Untouchable. Unique.

Pink Floyd is intelligent music. They don't skimp on the lyrics and then musicality is top-notch. They are meant to take you away! I'm so glad you got it! You'll love Great Gig in the Sky!

Listen to this in 10 years time and it will hit you harder ... then listen again in 20 years and it will blow you away ... just my advice !! .. if you listen to the message and take action you wont have regrets !!

Along with "Money" my favorite Pink Floyd song. The lyrics hit home harder as you get older. Mark your calendar to listen every 5 years, you will be amazed how the song hits home harder each time. As many in the comments say, chill out and listen to the entire album in 1 sitting. Per Johnny Rotten, Pink Floyd is the cause for the Sex Pistols!! Check out their song "God Save the Queen".

Nice reaction, thanks. This is called progressive rock, or prog rock. As far as the meaning, for me: You have to make things happen yourself; don't wait for something or someone to drop an opportunity in your lap, cuz it doesn't happen that way. Any Pink Floyd suggestion is a thumbs up. Looking forward to more.

When you first hear Pink Floyd, the music grabs you. Later, when you really listen, it will suck you in. There were several years between when I heard Pink Floyd and when I actually listened to them. Those years later, it was like I was experiencing something new all over again.

Two rules I would suggest to reacting to Pink Floyd in the future. First never pause during a David Glimour guitar solo Second refer to rule number 1

"Very unorthodox" is perhaps the best two word summation of Pink Floyd anyone has ever come up with. Quite right, young man. Quite right. "Time" is from the album "Dark Side of the Moon" with was released in the spring of 1973. I first heard it that summer in Scotland when my eldest cousin got a copy and fell in love with it. She wasn't all that into Floyd before that record but she played that one all the time. She'd sit with her friends and shut off the lights, put on "Dark Side" and listen to it without ever saying a single word. Sometimes I'd be over at their house and they'd let me sit with them if I promised to keep quiet whilst the record was playing. I adored my cousin Sheena, I truly did. Let me just tell you that I was all of 14 when this record came out (1973) and along with bands such as Yes, and a couple of years later Rush, would have me questioning my worldview, too.
