Nice!!!! You reacted to an oldie! RM IS one of the greatist lyricist, hands down. I wish folks would recommend other songs of his besides JOKE. I dont think that song showcases his lyrical ability as much as his others (I think it mainly highlights his passive aggressive sarcasm lol and his fast rapping ability mainly). In order to see his genius, I think you need to hear songs like Trivia: Love, Tokyo, Awakening, Ddaeng, etc. The songs themselves may seem very simple to some folks, but once you do a lyric breakdown and dig deep into the references... your mind gets blown away by the mutliple entendres. His iconic ecg reference in Trivia Love and the saram/sarang switch up still remains one of my favorite things ever as a medical professional. Just google a "lyrical breakdown" of any of his songs on the internet, you'll find vids and essays, even published articles from profession academic journals, all analyzing certain passages from his songs. This is the man who wrote V's Singularity in a quick session after coming out from a minor medical procedure. It's amazing. 😂💜🔥

I absolutely love this song since the first time I heard it. The lyrics are truth! This song may be older, but damn if it doesn’t hold relevance today and each day since it’s release. I am glad you are starting to relent on his deep voice. I think it is also important to consider when evaluating RM's voice that despite the fact he is relatively fluent in English, this 2017 track may well be his first original material recording in which he doesn't mix both Korean and English. He certainly has a history of going a few bars, singing choruses, or even injecting a few words in English, but I cannot recall any earlier recordings fully in English. So yes, there were a number of difficult to understand by ear moments in Change, but Googling a transcript of the lyrics will clarify that. Sadly the closed captions on KZbin were random jibberish. Unfortunate ARMY never got around to adding captions.

If you like more meaningful lyrics i'd recommend listening to "Ugh" by BTS's rapline along with DKDKTV's translation/analysis. They use a lot of korean references and puns in their lyrics, so people usually have a greater appreciation for their lyricism if they listen to the analysis. Up to you if you'd like to watch the video, but i'd highly recommend as a korean myself since translations aren't as accurate/fluid in the lyric videos compared to DKDKTV. Honestly the way he thinks, especially with 2 languages at his disposal while writing lyrics is crazy. He has been known to throw in doubles and triples that transend both languages and he always has some deeper meaning to his writing.
