I can accept both ways to play the Halo games. I personally prefer order of release, because it allows mainly for the evolution of gameplay and engine advancement to catchup, but that’s me.

To Matara and George, About Halsey, her character is rather in the moral grey area, while i agree her method of kidnapping and doctrinating child soilders are outright evil but there is a justify purpose behind that - The kids she kidnapped are seriously talented and carefully observed. - Kids are quick learners, by adopting military studies at very young age, they will have better analytic mind and tatics in later years. - The most important part (even Matara would hate): Augmentation - Kids body are growing, by augment enhancements at this age, their body will easily adapt these enhancements and grow into Halsey's "Perfect Soldiers" that is Spartan IIs. However, many got crippled or died because their body cannot adapt these enhancements. But Fortunately, Halsey still opens the door for the crippled kids (or may revives the susposed to be dead ones) to help them rehab becoming Spartans, for example Red Team.

I think the worst part is that the reasons for making them were a lot less "good vs evil" at first than they eventually became. They were brought about years before the Covenant ever showed up and were originally meant to take on insurrectionists. A bloody civil war is a pretty fucked up reason to make super soldiers out of orphans. It all worked out in the end, but still.

I don't begrudge the decision to do Reach first (it's my favorite) but I think starting with Reach undercuts the rest of the games in various ways (gameplay is more underwhelming, the experience of the story impacts different, among others), so I still advocate playing through in release order

Gotta strongly disagree with baby Bricky wanting Reach first. Reach first means you **miss** every reference, as well as being thrown immediately into a world you don't understand yet, a miffed first impression the Covenant, and needing a buddy to explain everything after it happens. Reach was made with the **expectation** you have already played the trilogy. Whereas CE brings you into the world at its own pace. CE needs no backstory, no explanation of anything outside of what characters say and do, and ends perfectly set up for the BANGER Halo 2.
