Charlie, this is Dan Wemett, yep the same Dan Wemett that worked on your Uncle Carl's race cars for years. I want to thank you for creating the channel, it brings back so many great memories from your Uncle Carl's racing career! I'm so happy to see the videos & the pictures of some of our race cars from the past! Lots of late nights & hard work went into them all! I want to wish you good luck in your coming race season & hope all is well!! Dan Wemett

10 for you! I started racing at 38 years old after a life of speedway on the outside of the fence. It's so cool to see someone live their dream finally pulling on the gloves and racing. FIve years later my two boys now race and love the scene.... Just remember it doesn't matter how well you do - you are still lapping that guy sitting on the fence wishing he would have a go..

Good for you!!! I’ve done something similar. I’m 52 and my neighbor and his brother have a handful of race cars and after a cpl years of hounding them and them bumping up in classes, I got the call. So as it stands, I have three races under my belt and am having a blast! Looking forward to this season. Years back, I did do a cpl seasons road racing, drag racing and even back of the pack outboard hydroplane racing, but nothing comes close to the driving style on short dirt tracks in a 4 cylinder fwd. last race of the season, as luck would have it, I sat on the pole. I did my best to fend off other racers that had modified power plants and whatnot, I ended 4th on a 30 lap race. I’m pretty proud of that. Race is posted on my channel if interested.😁👍

Unfortunately, I need to get a much more lucrative career before I can even think about beginning! You will be up front in no time! Very inspiring. Good luck this season. My step dad raced asphalt ,dirt ,and drag. Mainly asphalt, and when I turned sixteen he was gonna put me in a car. He woulda probably snuck me into a few races earlier. Unfortunately he died when I was twelve or thirteen. I’m 44 now and haven’t been back to the local tracks since then. I have considered doing what you are doing possibly on dirt but maybe asphalt. Depending on which is cheaper. Right now my finances aren’t ready to jump in head first but I hope to soon. I was thinking I was already to old for it and maybe putting a car together for my son but seeing you do it in your 50s makes me think my son can wait. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!

After my father's street license was taken away I decided to get back on the track after 32 yrs. At 62, I soon enter my 3rd 4-race 250 lap enduro season. My races mirrors your practice. 2 seconds slower, stay at the bottom, get freight trained every 7-8 laps. I've surprised myself by finishing 6 of the 7 races I ran. (20-35 laps down) it's been fun, I am learning, meeting my competitors, getting some help. Sounds funny but @ 60+ yrs. "I am a racecar driver!" Loved your video, Best to you this year!

A bonehead decision to just decide to go racing, buy a car and wing it learning as you go. Ideally you want to work on someone's pit crew and get a feeling the what it's all about as well as learn the set up and other tricks from the inside. That said I did the exact same thing in the 1980's. Exactly the same experience first time out, think you're going faster then you've ever gone in you life and can't catch up to the second to last car in the field. Took a year to get to mid pack, learned a lot of trade skills and had a lot of fun. Hardest you'll ever work in you life but strangely it doesn't feel like work while doing it. A monstrous waste of money that goes out so fast it's hard to add up by the end of the season. Make darned sure you have the resources because there is not such thing as racing anything on a budget.
