He is the older brother, he plays piano. He is a genius arranger and producer and he created their multilayered harmonic sound. She is the younger sister, she plays the drums and occasional the electric bass. And of course she had that fantastic Angel voice ❤❤

Hi Key, that’s Richard, Karen’s older (3.5 years) brother. He mostly sang harmonies but did take a lead mid song on some songs. He also sang lead on a few songs, Drucilla Penny, sometimes. As seen in this video he did a lot of the tech side and played keyboards. He would be mostly responsible for the Carpenters “sound.” All those unusual instruments, harmony layering etc, that’s all Richard. I’m going to recommend two songs. The first is one where the video version, while lovely, is shortened so I’m going to link the music only version. It’s called A Song For You, it totally accentuates Karen’s vocal range “the money is in the basement.” kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqHId2CPgcyHrMk The other is a video from 1970. Karen is 20 and doing the Karen thing of singing and playing the drums. This is a fully live performance for the classic Sunday night variety show of the era. The Ed Sullivan Show. It’s a salute to the veterans show so it’s on an Army hospital complex in D.C. and the audience are all patients and vets of the Viet Nam era. The song is the Bacharach/David Medley. It really is a joy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6PWpn95e555qqs I hope you enjoy both. Joe

Their music is very meditative. Even though Karen only lived to be 32, she recorded A LOT of beautiful music.

Nice reaction. I would also highly recommend the longer and original version of “A Song for You”:which has a phenomenal saxophone solo. Others that were never released as singles are: “Ordinary Fool” and “I Just Fall in Love Again.” Thank you!

Thank you, Key - for giving old school music a try. With the Carpenters, you get to experience what it was like in the 70s with their 'Easy Listening' music. Richard's arrangements puts him at a very high level of arrangers, and Karen's voice... none like It! I hope you would react to their version of "Masquerade" - thank you.

👍 Along with having one of the greatest voices of all time, Karen was also a very talented drummer.

Richard's voice is there in the background. Their harmonies are so good that It's blending so seamlessly with Karen's voice that it's hard to pick his out at times.
