Nice reaction This song was released in1968. Disco was the mid to late 70s. The part at the beginning where you couldn’t find the lyrics are not a part of the song. It was just an intro. The real dramatic part of the intro is actually the intro for one of her biggest hits You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me. For this song I.think I would have recommended the original studio recording. I think it is more powerful than this live version. In fact, for me personally, I prefer that a reactor use the original studio version of a song to hear the artist’s original intent and to hear a song the same way most of us heard it for the first time.

Dusty is the epitome of class, grace, humility, style, fashion, and omg, her voice is still in a league of ONE, incomparable, inimitable, incredible.... Dusty is the Queen of Blue Eyed Soul and could sing anything. This was from her Royal Albert Hall performance in 1979, live, in front of Princess Margaret.

Dusty was one of the best singers of the '60s. I suggest you listen to "You don't have to say you love me." She could and would sing anything.

Indeed she was a star performer. Like you, I discovered her music years after, so glad I did. Beautiful voice. I live near Henley-on-Thames, of take a shortcut through the churchyard past her grave, always stop for a moment and charmed by the fact that there's always fresh flowers laid, a much loved singer with a superb catalogue of songs.

This is one of the great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). "Son Of A Preacher Man" is her most famous song. But she had a lot of hits such as "Wishin' & Hopin'", "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "I Only Want To Be With You", "I'll Try Anything", "The Look Of Love", "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" & many more.

Hi Britt, Just watched this and yes, there was a disco version of this which was an underground classic in clubs like Studio 54 (NYC) and the Embassy Club (London) in the 1970s: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIayoGmfZdObqJI

Shout out to the BBC and , to a lesser extent, ITV for their investments in popular music shows in the 60s and 70s. The reason for so much content from these decades.

I believe this is a 1979 performance at the Royal Albert Hall, in the presence of HRH Princess Margaret (the Queen’s younger sister). Although originally recorded in the 60s, this performance of the song would have been in the disco era so it is not surprising if the arrangement reflects that.

Check out "You don't have to say you love Me" and "I Only want to be with You." She also sang a great duet with Burt Bacharach called "A House is not a Home." Here is the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnuWe2V9hsiefJY, She died way too young at almost age 60 and was born in London. She was a wonderful singer and performer.

so good to see a dusty song that isn't son of a preacher man. you sometimes forget the queen was young with brown hair when you didn't grow up with that image of her.

Great comment. I'm also fed up when all that is presented on KZbin is 'Son of a Preacher Man'. For goodness sake, let's have 'Walk on By' or 'You Don't Have to Say You Love Me'. (Yeah, yeah, I know they're on there if you request them, but reaction videos seem to always feature Preacher Man). And yes, the Queen was young once. Come to think of it, so was I!

Surprised you haven't had time to react to dame Shirley Bassey, one of the most amazing female vocalists, try I who have nothing, or the Bond theme Goldfinger. As Welsh vocalists go, right up there with Sir Tom Jones.

I believe it reminds you of the Beatles, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" By the mid to late 70's everything adult contemporary had a disco beat put behind it. Even 60's songs like this were given a disco beat for a second life. This is not the stuff you would hear in a real club in the city or Bklyn.. This is the type of disco you would hear at an anniversary party or adult singles meet-up event, replete with cheesy wide lapel polyester shirts, Polyester Bell Bottoms and porn-mustaches...EEEWWWWWWW
