Mac Davis wrote this song.. and Elvis singing it was amazing.. because Elvis did grow up dirt poor in Mississippi. Basically the white ghetto.. his daddy went to jail for 2 yrs when Elvis was 2.. during the Depression here in the States.. Elvis always remembered his roots.. I respect that

MLKjr was shot and killed not 9 miles from Elvis' Graceland home. recorded over 700 songs.

His manager didn’t want him to do them but he felt very strongly and did them anyway. Elvis was not a political person but was religious and very patriotic. He lived what he believed in. Never policed his many good deeds . By hiring black back up singers it shows he did not see color.
