Geras' second fatality is my favorite one. It's a time loop and I love the concept. Step 1: Reach a few seconds into the future and rip the opponent's head off. Step 2: Beat the opponent's jaw off with their future self's head. Step 3: Watch as your past self reaches back and rips off your opponent's head to repeat from step 1

I think that's not quite right: Your Geras begins by reaching into the past (or alternate timeline) and Spine-Ripping a past/alt Reptile, and your Reptile is finished by a future/alt Geras. Even in MK11, Kronika and others moving through time have only moved themselves or others to or from the past, never the future. MK1 Keepers of Time have also only gone to/pulled from alternate timelines, not the "current" future.

In order for the timeline to add up, geras bashes off the opponents jaw with the head he pulled, making the opponents head match the future geras stole the head from. Since the timeline now works right (the head pulled at the start of the fatality matches the same injuries as the opponent), geras from the start of the fatality (now the past) reaches in and pulls the head off of the opponent. It’s one linear timeline that technically flows perfectly forward when you focus on one singular Geras (the one we watch directly)

This game has a second seperate character roster for returning characters who either only play a minor part in the story or none at all, and they basically work like an assist. They're called kameos. Some of the kameos are also characters who are in the main roster but the kameo versions use the classic design of the character instead of the new one. Everyone in this video after Li Meis part is a kameo fighter, also for the kameod when they say "(person) wins" they're referring to the main character even if it's the kameo doing the fatality

There's also "Fatal Blows", which are like specials to bust out a lot of easy damage mid-match. Those are an interesting watch too The goofy mfs that show up after the main cast's fatalities are Kameos, they're from a completely different list than fully playable characters and just serve as extras to call in during the fight. Most of their fatalities channel the classic, simplified feel from the earlier games

The Kameos in order of appearance during their fatalities, for clarity's sake, and because they aren't named: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Cyrax, Kano, Kung Lao, Motaro, Shujinko, Goro, Darrius, Sareena, Sonya Blade, Sektor, Frost, Stryker, Jax Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Kung Lao are all on both the main and Kameo roster, only the Kameo versions are more classic iterations. Many of the other characters on the kameo roster are classic versions, so in cases like Sonya and Kano, this game doesn't really capture what their characters have been in more modern titles (Sonya has a greater focus on her military career in her kit as the series goes on, for example)

Geras’s second one goes hard. He grabs the opponent’s future self’s head, and smacks the opponent with their own head, and since Geras put his arm forward in time, his past self opens a portal and grabs the head of the opponent, which means that the past Geras will do the same thing, and another past Geras will pull of the head and so on and so on. Such a cool idea.

The problem I had with Mortal Kombat fatalities were they were too brutal to mean anything. Too many bodies being split in half too, yes they do it in different ways but it all blurs together after a while and because it's so over the top I just kinda gloss over it.

Some minor clarification about the “having to sit through it online would feel so disrespectful” thing - fatalities actually aren’t very common online, because they take time and both players usually are just looking to move on to the next set, plus the gore can make it hard for streamers and KZbinrs to get their stuff monetized. The same thing happens in tournaments, although some players (like SonicFox) still perform them for crowd reactions. That said, the other type of finisher (Brutalities, essentially an in-match fatality performed by winning the match with a specific move while fulfilling a certain condition) is pretty common, since they’re both quick and flashy.

Also the reason Havik didn't die even though he took out his own heart and broke his own limbs is because he is from a race of people who can't die, and he has basically infinite regeneration. He also enjoys the pain he inflicts onto himself which is why he had no problem with harming himself. Also the reason the same guy was used for all fatalities is because his green blood can bypass the age restriction from youtube (though Havik kinda ruined that), he's also the same as the big reptile dude, just in his human form
