People aren’t necessarily standing up and dancing as this performance is at the national opera house of fine arts in Mexico. It’s a renowned opera house in Mexico exclusively for classical music/theatre. It’s most prestigious and only a few of the best get to perform there. Juan Gabriel was the only popular singer-of popular music that is ever to perform there. No other popular singer has ever performed there before or after he did. The opera house is held with a certain respect. In fact, the way he dances here is toned down, pretty tame to what he usually did as he tried to uphold that respect to the opera house

The reason the audience aren’t in their feet dancing is because Juan Gabriel asked them not to. To respect the theatre they were in as it held a lot of respectable performance and carried a lot of history.

This songs tells a story about a person (most likely a man) who was happy since the day he was born, had a great life, never suffer, until she met her (a woman, he sings "fuiste mala", which is feminine for "you were bad"). It's when the song reached it's most dramatic peak, even sad, he laments the suffering she caused him (or he experienced with her). But then the song takes a turn, when he sings, with irony and humor, how bad she was, but he's not sad, he's only scornful now, that's why the song goes from sad and dramatic to happy and fun. This song is like medicine for the soul. It always makes the mood better and happy, and people sing it (karaoke or a capella or with a guitar) when they drink and are happy at a party, or they put the record and dance. Not too common this last one any more, but my aunts and uncles used to dance at parties with this song and many more.
