Just to add my vote for "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive". Patty is a coal miner's daughter, just like her cousin Loretta Lynn. She lived through watching members of her family and loved ones falling to black lung. You will not regret hearing her story in this song.

@@michelleortega1514 No, the best one is where she sings it herself with appropriate accompaniment. Chris rockchurched it up, like he always does. It's fine, but I'd rather hear Patty sing it like she does.

There is a video on here of her doing You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive live for some sort of tv showcase. She spends a solid two or three minutes telling the audience why the song means so much to her and about her family history. Then she proceeds to give probably her best vocal performance ever. It is amazing to watch and actually really informative. The way she uses different mouth shapes or subtle changes in the tension of her jaw to raise and lower notes is crazy.

Definitely you'll never leave harlan alive. Patty is my all time favorite country female singer. She has that high lonesome sound that cuts like a knife like nobody else. She is royalty. BTW, she does this same song as a duet with Chris stapleton who does the man's perspective part. She came out of retirement to do that for a Kentucky benefit for those ravaged by natural disasters.
@johnsonpaul1914 Жыл бұрын
Add my vote for this song and "You'll never leave Harlan alive" with Chris Stapleton and the "Kentucky Rising" benefit in, I believe, 2022. Patty came out of retirement (since 2009) at Chris's request for this most soulful concert.
@joelrubinson9973 Жыл бұрын
@@johnsonpaul1914 They also performed it at the CMA awards. It was a masterclass for this generation of top singers to hear Patty (the applause at the pauses in the singing was just great). IMHO, the best female country singer ever with that piercing high lonesome sound. In her 60s and retired, she still has got it. So best male singer on the planet (any genre) and best female singer...so amazing.
@johnsonpaul1914 Жыл бұрын
@@joelrubinson9973 I have watched that one also. I guess I like the rising concert because of Morgane's obvious adoration and respect for Patty. Morgane Stapelton is a severely under rated artist in her own right. Both performances are just some of the best music ever.

The steel guitar is producing the high pitched sounds you're hearing. In the hands of a skilled player, it is a wonderful instrument and it can really tug at your heart strings in a sad song. Patty mostly sings Bluegrass and Gospel now but she excels in any genre. A wonderful and sometimes forgotten talent.

This is a song about 2 people growing apart, because neither appreciates the struggle of the others life. She only sees her struggle with keeping the home and not being appreciated for the effort, he only his struggle to leave each day, all day to come home to be under appreciated too. they are blinded to each others pain by their own.
