Ren's not classically trained in singing. He had a lot of practice busking, and watched vocal coaches such as Chris Liepe on KZbin to improve his technique. He did an interview with Chris Liepe in which he said he had some singing lessons in 2020 after he lost his voice for a short while, so that he could learn to sing without hurting his voice. I don't know if he sang in school. He got his first guitar aged 10, and started making beats aged 12. He comes from a small island off the coast of North Wales. He said he started rapping out of necessity because he didn't know anyone else to do it at the time. Wales has a tradition of male voice choirs. Ren put together his own version of this at the beginning of Seven Sins, the first song on his Sick Boi album. Jenny's Tale was apparently based on a newspaper article about a 14 year old boy in London who killed a lady. It seems what followed came directly from Ren's imagination. He has said that if he hadn't had the experience of chronic illness that he has had he probably wouldn't have written songs like Violet's Tale. There are quite a few nursery rhymes that turn up in Ren's music. I think the one you're thinking of in Hi Ren is She sells sea shells on the sea shore, which is a reference to a verse in one of his previous songs, Money Game part 2. It was the dark version of Ren taking something Ren is very proud of and belittling it and making fun of it as childish. The Money Game trilogy is incredible. Highly recommended. Parts 1 and 3 are intricately choreographed live one take performances. Part 2 is a very well put together lyric video (released in 2020).

GREAT reactions!! So how much does a work of genius cost to make?? The entire budget for Violet's Tale was 50 pounds ($60-ish) The 'hospital' room is actually the basement bike storage room in a friend's apt building. There are bicycles behind that blue curtain. The budget for Jenny's Tale and Screech's Tale were near zero. All told this entire gut-wrenching masterpiece cost roughly $100 to make. Now THAT'S genius!!

Did you understand the end? I haven’t read all the comments yet- but the twins were Violet’s babies. In 2005. Screeches tale was released in 2019 (14 years old). Jenny and James (Screech) were twins, but didn’t know. Their mother died, and their father either fled or went to prison for murder. Jennifer and James are apparently like Jane and John Doe in the US- commonly given to those without names in the U.K.. Shakespearean style tragedy from our modern day Bard. A story of generational trauma and violence. Real life things we don’t talk about enough, since it continues. Very glad you jumped right into this though! Your channel is blowing up! (Rising tide!) there are so many places to go from here. Sick Boi is a great choice to do next. I saw other suggestions for singing Ren-all good options! Rapping REN: The Hunger, Loosing it, Illest of Our Time, Genesis, Seven Sins, and many more! All different- all pure lyrical and artistic genius! The first three are more upbeat. 😁

"You know when you stumble on greatness?" .... Yep, that's Ren! I don't know whether Ren can read music or not. He may have picked it up along the way, but he said once in an interview that he can "see the shapes" that the music makes in his mind, and he just figures out how to make the instrument make the same "shapes." Ren taught himself to sing, as well, with help from vocal coach videos on KZbin. Ren is an independent artist, and due to health problems is not able to tour, so he's not as well-known as he should be. But last year, his album Sick Boi charted at #1 in the UK, which was a huge accomplishment! Great reaction, and kudos to Samuel Perry Falvey for the amazing videography. Looking forward to more Ren reactions from you, I'm glad you're enjoying the ride so far!

Pushing up on 2k subs already! Renegades don't mess around 😆 All of the talent he puts on show is more impressive when you consider he's independant and does most of this with a small group of friends. Some of these are live takes too, he does his own production and directing, songwriting, every scene is PACKED with visual language, like the silhouette graffiti of the young girl on a swing whilst singing about Jenny which he pauses next to. And he does it all whilst fighting chronic illness from Lyme disease and years of mental health struggles caused by misdiagnoses. He really is a force of nature. On top of that, I love that NOTHING is safe around him, the whole world becomes an instrument, doors, phones, guitar bodies, staircases, everything has a use.

@@stevensmind NF reactors. You have been to school. 😉 I really hate the over the top reactors. They can’t honestly behave like that off camera (I hope?!) Don’t be hard on yourself for missing the twist at the end, you can’t catch every single detail. Just be sure to run something back if you might not have caught the meaning. The Renegades don’t mind. Also, let the videos play past the closing frame. Ren often adds a little text to the following frame. Ren is the master of the dramatic pause. His delivery about the twins is in a quiet and resigned tone. A tonal statement about just how much the “social safety net system” gets wrong. The twins wouldn’t have ever known about one another. Most countries split babies up and send them wherever they can. There dad was in Prison and both children were mirrors of their own father, for Screech, and mother, for Jenny. Always look for the ones in red suspenders as the best. But even without that band is amazingly talented. He advertised in local paper for musicians to join him, in a band and got 3 (Romain( guitar, vocals) Glen ( drums) Gorran ( guitar, harmonica and vocals) they all moved in together during that time. Rens health tanked and they separated. Still friends. Romain is close friends with Ren. He is originally from France. And now solo artist on utube. Check him out Romain Axisa. Gorran is busking across Europe now. Glen is back In Ireland. Maybe some big push next to be a bit lighter mood? Or some rap or such? Ren is like a swiss army knife of variety.

Multiple comments as I watched, sorry. He (and his friend and videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey) aspires to have a Netflix series with content similar to the tales. He has 4 or 5 written, as proof of concept, but I don't think they've filmed any yet. When the time is right, I think he'll get it. If not, Netflix are morons and he'll probably figure out how to do it on his own, like he always does. He did film Vincents Tale 1 & 2 starting at the new year and we're all hyped for him to edit and release them, both because they'll be amazing and because there was a bit of a setback when he had to go to the emergency room during the first attempt to film as he had a health flare up. Took a few months to recover and claw his way back again, but he's been at is hard since the new year. If you want to see his directorial debut, check out Sick Boi Part 1 - The Flame of Prometheus.

He also appreciates the reactors that help get his music out to the world and his fine with you monetizing your reactions to his music. He says a rising tide lifts all ships.😊

“Method camera acting” 😂 I think you might have invented something there. But that actor would be Samuel Perry-Falvey, genius videographer and director who works with Ren on many videos. I’m loving your reactions and subbed for more. Really good.

FWIW, Sam prefers "cinematographer" to "videographer" 😅 As for the film... they're trying to get a series deal with Netflix. I'm pretty sure Ren said his Promethius shorts are to serve as proof of concept as well as their main purpose of advertising his merch.
Welcome to Ren‘s Rabbit Hole! Great reacting! It is so wonderful to see how in awe people are when they first discover Ren. I totally agree, he would be a wonderful and talented actor.

Congratulations on your subs climbing! 🎉🦇🎉 And as a former fellow thespian, I wish you all the luck with your career! From my first tap dancing recital at the age of 5, I aspired to be on the stage. And I pursued that aspiration in acting up until my late 30s/early 40s. The reason I dropped the dream is perfectly portrayed in Hi Ren. I had battled That Voice for decades and I was exhausted by it Which is why I love your confidence! When you said "I'm a really good actor", it didn't sound arrogant or narcissistic. It sounded like an artist who has been honing his craft and simply knows the truth. Stay confident and keep grinding! I'm really glad you're diving into more Ren. He continually sparks inspiration in so many people, a ripple effect that creates creations that inspire others to create their creations! Absolute magic! 🌟🦇🌟🦇🌟🦇🌟🦇🌟

You know, I'm glad you said that. I was thinking of editing that out because i felt it sounded arrogant. I'm trying this new thing called being confident. Acting is one of the few things I've been able to have confidence in. I hope you find your voice again! It's such a good outlet as an artist to create. I'd love to see your work!

There are so many amazing reactors who cover Ren. Steven, Two you might find valuable are Chris Liepe and Joe E Sparks. Chris is a vocal coach who Ren used to listen to and learn from. I think as an actor, Chris Liepes methods will be particularly interesting. Chris has also been able to interview Ren, providing you with a lot of extra information and context. Joe E Sparks is a videographer. I love hearing all the visual, lighting and frame observations that I would never have seen. This two just crack the surface of the reactors who bring their art into Ren’s world. Have fun diving deep.

@@stevensmindLove reading the reactions on reactors... and real RENegades would prefere always to be supportive, noticed also you missed the twist, but his stories, setings & texts are so dense, never mind... The trilogy is ment to point out the vicious circle of abuse, passed on generation to generation... so starting right over is exactly what this is about... There is a reaction of a young female psychologist on RENs trilogy, who has been working for years with patients with anger management issues and abused persons and she managed to unwind all layers of the trilogy showing how tragic this familys are and she did not skip to analyse the role of the police shooter - amazing your reaction on how REN turned his guitar into a gun... same for me, when i watched the trilogy first time btw subbed after 3 minutes, looking forward to more reactions :) Congrats to 6000+ subs

Ren has been chronically ill, misdiagnosed and the consequent devastation on his body. He was signed at one time but he couldn't tour or hold to contractual expectations so they dropped him. He's remained independent which allowed him to write and sing what and when he wants or his health allows. He has Lyme disease.
