During the entirely of Predebut Seventeen, there never was a moment where they had 17 members but they were called seventeen from the start. It was just a coincidence that a total of 17 boys were at one point part of the predebut line up for Seventeen. But they were never there at once. Which is probably were the confusion of the "There used to be 17 members but some left before debut". Pledis was actively adding and removing members and some left on their own accord during predebut, so I don't think there ever was any intentions of a 17 membered group or if there was, it was scraped in the very begining. Pledis definitely had more male trainees in training but weren't selected for the predebut line up. Because I remember in Going Seventeen, Minghao mentioned the day SeventeenTV did that Christmas play, that was his first day at the company, but he himself wasn't revealed on SeventeenTV until much later. Jeonghan mentioned in a VLive once that during his time as a trainee, 23 guys left the company and someone else mentioned even more had left prior to him becoming a trainee. So that means, if Pledis truly wanted a 17 membered group, they could've easily added more members to the line up (but thankfully that wasn't the case).

Tiana is right, because they have a big group they can do a lot more of formations for their choreography, and yes SVT uses their numbers to create imagery through their dance very very well. But there aren't many other big groups who makes use of that very well either, so i think SVT is kinda the best at it. What's more, they choreograph or have a part in choreographing all of their choreography.

Among kpop boy groups, Seventeen is the BEST in synchronized choreography, no exaggeration. I'm so happy you got into them because i'm sure you will love their songs.
