If you used to like Digimon I would highly recommend watching the Japanese openings. The original evolution themes are also bangers. The OST means so much to so many fans. If you are thinking of rewatching the series and haven't done the original with subtitles I would also recommend it highly, if you had the American dub it feels so watered-down compared to the original. Doesn't have to be a reaction either.

If you listen to the Digimon openings, or even if you don't, I recommend listening to the full version of Butterfly. And there is also a song called Brave Heart that was used in the show, it wasn't an opening but it was very good. If I remember correctly both of these songs kind of got "remastered" for Digimon Tri (the 15th anniversary of the original season) so there might technically be multiple versions when you look them up

The original version of the Digimon series was serious and dramatic, as opposed to the western release where they threw Smash Mouth and DJ scratching over everything, and the openings reflected this! Butter-Fly and Seven are wonderful songs from the late and great Koji Wada, and a few years ago they did a re-recording of those openings for an anniversairy OVA, along with Brave Heart by Ayumi Miyazaki. I would love to see you do a watch along of the original series (and maybe Adventure 2.0 as well!) in Japanese, to compare how different they come across!

Yes. The Japanese songs of Digimon Tamers are some of my favorites. Biggest Dreamer, Slash, Evo, and One Vision are great. Primary Colors is a pretty cute song. I think the digimon sing in it. God Luke i hope you watch Trigun someday. not even on the channel, just in your own time. it's a prime example of "classic anime." it's such a fun, carefree romp, while also having it's deeper moments. the characters are written so well, and the animation is as retro classic as it gets, for real. seriously, i think you'd really enjoy it 😅

Yeah, completely different than the manga, the manga goes so much deeper I liked the anime but I also liked Stampede which I think people hated just because it was CG All 3 are good, similar but also pretty different Trigun is just good
@RyoHazuki224 Жыл бұрын
@@AkumaItachi As a big fan of Trigun, I of course was excited for Stampede, the CGI didn't throw me off, quite the contrary it was damn impressive. Makes me laugh that the same people who would not accept the CGI of Trigun Stampede still love "western" CGI movies like the Spider-Verse movies, heck they grew up on Shrek and such. But I digress. No the thing that eventually bothered me with Stampede was that I think it took itself too serious. like the first three episodes felt like Trigun, after that it was super depressing, Vash was depressed and really didn't do anything for like the rest of the episodes. Like sure we know Vash doesn't want to shoot to kill people, but in the original he would use his gunplay to take down his enemies in inventive ways. In Stampede, he did that like twice, ever. The rest of the series he didn't do a damn thing. Wolfwood did most of everything else. Thats what bugged me about the new show.

Such as old UC 79-ZZ (Including 08th, 0083, Also War in the Pocket*, Char's Counterattack* and maybe Origin even though it's newer), old AU (G, X, Wing, Turn A), SEED & Destiny, Mid AU (00, Reconguista and Age), Build, New UC (Igloo, Unicorn, Thunderbolt* and Narrative) and New AU (IBO and Witch). *These don't have openings in the traditional sense, but have defining song based sequences. It would be far too much for someone who doesn't have any input in Gundam to dive into them all, so better to break into chunks. SEED and SEED Destiny alone have 8(9) openings between them alone. ooh! Pet Shop of Horrors!! I've never actually watched the anime for that one, but I remember being incredibly invested in the manga for a little bit there! I should probably go back and take a look at that again someday... idk, most of this stuff was before my time, so it's one of the few titles I recognize, other than the unmissably big ones. also, probably the most nostalgic anime OP for me is the one for Haibane Renmei... just because of how young I was when I watched that one. that or the original Fruits Basket OP, not the new one. like... the first Fruits Basket anime adaptation wasn't very good in terms of like... production value, or fully conveying all the things that were so good about that manga. but at the same time, there was something really sweet about it in a campy, old anime, of it's era sort of way. idk, I have a soft spot for anything related to Fruits Basket, it's up there with Fullmetal Alchemist in terms of stuff that I will be unapologetically biased about because of how in love with it I was when I was younger. god, and Ouran High School Host Club. tbh, Haruhi from that, Tohru from Fruits Basket, and Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist, were such formative characters that I loved so incredibly much...

The answer to both what anime would be great to hear a reaction to AND what anime is the most nostalgic for me personally is the same; Slayers. Slayers is an older anime that never gets enough love. Both Adesso e Fortuna from the early 90s OVAs for Lodoss and Kiseki no Umi, from the later series are amazing songs, very well regarded in otaku circles in Japan. Just a a remark: Record of Lodoss War was, in a way, the Critical Role animated series of Japan back then. Originally, the script was based on a series of TTRPG games that the original creator played with his friends in the 1980s, hence why classes and races fit so well with AD&D, and those books were eventually serialized into Anime. Some of its characters are still very well remembered in RPG circles here in Japan: Parn, the beautiful Deedlit, the sexy Pirotess, the stoic evil paladin Ashram... I would not have gotten into TTRPG in the 90s without this anime (and Slayers, whose main character, Lina Inverse, has been the basis for oh so many of my player characters over the years, this is how much I love her design and personality).

Since you asked what anime from this list give us nostalgia, for me there are three: Record of Lodoss War - This was the first anime I watched on VHS. I was really into D&D at the time, and this was exactly what I wanted, an animated D&D adventure. Both of the OPs were on this list, and I'd recommend you listen to the full version of both; they give very different feelings for what kind of adventure the show will take you on. Serial Experiments Lain - Wow, this show was a trip. I'm still not sure I really understand this show; I should go back and watch again sometime. Sailor Moon - This was the show that formed the basis of a friendship that lasted for more than two decades. I was getting into anime, and my now-best friend was a huge Sailor Moon fan. Watched the entire show from her fansubbed tapes. Probably doesn't hold up after almost 30 years, but that was a moment in my life I will always appreciate, and that second opening for the show is one of my favorites.

All time favourite is too hard to choose, but since we are watching older anime, it would definitely be nice to see a reaction to Ah! My Goddess!. It's absolutely beautiful and heartwarming songs. One of the most wholesome romance anime I've ever seen. The whole list is nostalgic even if I watched only a small part of it. These are songs that even you don't know the anime you've probably heard it before. The most nostalgic anime for me would probably be Love Hina. It's first that I specially checked out for watching and not just seeing it being played on TV. After that there was no stopping anymore. It has been more than 10 years since then.

Day 107 of recommending the Beyblade openings. There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. I made playlists on my channel, so you don't need to search, cause in those compilations are a few off and not in the correct order. Thanks for checking out!

If I could reccomend any set of old school openings in would have to be the Slayer ones (The 1st one shows up at spot 35) their all sang by Megumi Hayashibara (She also voices the main character) who is my favourite female va almost solely on how goated her vocal performances are. Also Gundam is a lot older than you think if 95 surprised you, the original came out I'm 1979 lol.

I would be very happy if you react to Cardcaptor Sakura and Rurouni Kenshin openings/endings. Those two are the most nostalgic anime for me. Cardcaptor Sakura was my first anime I watched in Japanese, so it means a lot to me.

There are two anime franchises I think you'd love the openings to - one's Gundam, 'cause WOW, and the other is Macross, like at 10:10 there. They both span a bunch of genres and are coupled with fantastic visual stylings in a lot of cases. The guy who led both series' animation departments was called Itano, and he basically rewrote the book on animating in the 70s and 80s, and beyond. Nostalgic series? God, probably Evangelion. What a life-changer that show was.
@kirimina9216 Жыл бұрын
Me, being hype every time I hear any of the Slayers openings. Also me, remembering the series as a whole is broken into different smaller series and would make for a great retro series to watch - Slayers, Slayers Next, Slayers Try, and the continuations I never got to watch when I was younger - Slayers Revolution and Slayers Evolution-R. Might be something to look into for the channel, as it's something that can be either split up or binged, gives older fans a nostalgia trip, and may become a new favorite for those who haven't seen the series yet! That said, highly recommend watching all the OPs for Slayers! They're all so wonderful

Hey Luke! "Inuyasha" is a great series with a lot of fantastic openings and endings you should definitely check out, as well as its sequel series, "Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon." "Serial Experiments Lain" (#3) is a major nostalgia bomb for me; it was one of the first anime series I watched and got really hooked into, and it's still so, so good even now! I also have a lot of love for "The Vision of Escaflowne" (#37), a criminally under-seen series that's got pretty much everything you could want in a 90s anime (Isekai! Fantasy! Giant mecha battles! Romance!), and "Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water" (#16), which was overseen by a young Hideaki Anno; its success allowed him to create his masterwork, "Neon Genesis Evangelion."

Man, thank you for the trip down memory lane. In the first half there were a few I didn't recognize, but this one there was I think 2 or 3 I didn't recognize! It's impossible to pick a favourite, but if I had to I'd probably pick either Ranma1/2 or Slayers. I hope maybe you could do a reaction to 100 Megumi Hayashibara songs. Megumi Hayashibara is a LEGENDARY VA who started in the mid 80's and still going strong, but because she's also a singer she sings in pretty much every song in every show she has a role. (You've heard her vocals a few times during this half and the previous half). Just to give you perspective, she currently sits at 373 VA credits on IMDB, and almost every one of those means that she performed at least part of the OP/ED if not every song in the show (like she does for Slayers and Saber Marionette J). You mentioned before you really like it when the VA cast sing the songs, well, she practically ALWAYS does! If you're interested, please check out HoomanityHasDeclined's video: "ajtXBpjMLEc"

This time there were only 5 anime I didn't know. I expected to do better. 😆 My most nostalgic anime would be Rurouni Kenshin (which has a remake airing this season after... 25 years?). It was one of the first anime that aired on national TV over here and the style was very different from any other "cartoon" that I had seen at the time. You could say it was the start of my own anime journey. It would be nice to see you react to all the OP and ED from the Rurouni Kenshin 90s series.🤩

Two animes I'd love you to react to the op/ends are these: Ranma 1/2 ( bear in mind it's got LOTS of songs, but they all fit the theme of the anime to a point and are really good) Slayers (at least the three first seasons, the good ones)

Wow, this compilation is so nostalgic, even though whatever I watched out of this list I watched later on in the 00s Btw, even though it was hard for me to get into Cardcaptor Sakura because of magical girl theme the whole CLAMP-verse with their other works, like xxxHolic, Tsubasa Chronicles, X and more is an outstanding example of building a multiverse with tons of crossovers while still maintaining a plethora of genres and keeping the shows self contained. Also, to not be dry of recommendations for OPs/EDs to react: DNAngel - this one is quite nostalgic for me, early 00s Shakugan no Shana Fate Kaleid Liner - magical girl show but not really since it's Fate

8:42 That anime is localized into English as "The Legend of Black Heaven: Hard Rock Save the Space". Despite that title, the show itself is a fairly slow burn drama/comedy about the struggle to be an adult and take care of a family versus the loss of passion felt in youth. The song used for the opening is written and performed by John Sykes, famously a member of Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, and Blue Murder, and shows up many times in the show itself as the theme of the titular band Black Heaven.

Slayers, Rurouni Kenshin, Macross, Gundam Wing, Fushigi Yuugi, Record of Lodoss War, Escaflowne, Mammote Shugogetten, City Hunter, DNA2, Yuyu Hakusho, and so many others! You can really tell though the difference in the early 90's to the later 90's music, definitely there is an evolution in the vibe and tones. I really think you should be one of the anime reactors to open up a slot for classic anime, along with watching new anime, do a poll on what 90's anime to watch! Heck you can bang out some short OVA series in a flash, like Battle Angel Alita, DNA2, Ah My Goddess, Gunsmith Cats, and the cheekiest of cheeky: Golden Boy! You'd be one of the few to really go back and experience such a golden age of anime, since the 90's was hands down the era in which anime really started to gain a cult following outside of Japan!
