Atarashii Gakko is full of originality and unassuming talent, with great humor and affection. This makes it a group like no other. I love AG!

Japan continues to amaze me with talent. Not just an idol group but an idol group with fabulous vocals. Then chuck in that they are all professional dancers who create amazing choreography. Add fantastic personality and comedy and irreverent treatment of the ''establishment'' challenging social issues. Top it off with awesome shows, live vocals and a great atmosphere. They have it all and then some, and then some, and then some. Check out Pineapple Kryptonite and the dance version. Video's of their dance practises rack up millions of hits on You Tube.

I would call them an alt-idol group.

@@Arigator2 I think they are often referred to as Alt-Idol or even Anti-Idol

@keithmajor7525 I don't like anti-idol. That has a negative connotation towards Idols. I think alt-idol is much better. Just a different kind of Idol Group. I don't like Idol Groups but I like SOO many things based on Idols.

Amazingly talented , always fun, Atarashii Gakko has a very diverse sound and style, for something really unique from them check out Pineapple Kryptonite. If you’re new to the Japanese music scene I’ll recommend Gacharic Spin-Mindset or I Wish I.

Atarashii Gakko No Leaders (New School Leaders) was formed in 2015 by Asobisytem. Mizyu (the one with two ponytails) was already on their books as she was a back up dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and they brought in Rin, Kanon and Suzuka to join her. They do all their own choreography and also create dances for other groups. They have some of the most original choreo I've seen from an idol group. In fact they are almost an anti-idol group as their motto is "With personality and freedom I'm going to stick out" and they sing about challenging themes and have appeared at Pride events and do some pretty avant garde art projects. In 2020/21 they joined 88rising to break into the US market and have had some success getting millions of YT views and doing some concerts in California. They recently broke out on TikTok in Japan with Otona Blue which is quite an old song and this First Take version has 30M views. Otona Blue (Adult Blues, pronounced as Otona Buru by Suzuka which means to act like an adult) is about "teenage awakening" ie the awareness of desire in others and their own desire to grow up and experience adult emotions. AG wrote the lyrics themselves when they were younger and I think it's an honest expression of their feelings as they approached adulthood, which makes some people uncomfortable. But AG never shy away from difficult subjects. They actually cut out some of the more explicit "phallic" bits of the dance and introduced a mime of a flower opening with a surprised look to go with their coquettish dancing. Their music is influenced by Showa era pop, Beastie Boys and jazz. Otana Blue is heavily influenced by Akikio Wada's Futuri Nikki. Another teenage angst song is "Nai Nai Nai". kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZawYnRsarCbf9k and check out their latest song "Suki Lie" which is about romantic betrayal and also the free jazz influenced "SNS24"

Marine of Hololive just did a cover of Otona Blue it's fun. Even if you don't like Hololive she has 2.5 million subs Hololive is huge in Japan. It's cool for Atarashii Gakko.

Nicely put. I was told that Atarashii Gakko are set to be Asobisystems ''next big thing'' Im guessing that Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is heavily involved with both. I have seen her promoting or interviewing Atarashii Gakko. Obviously there is a long standing connection with KPP.

The other First Take performance that has recently blown up the internet is Su-Metal's (of BabyMetal) amazing rendition of Monochrome from their new album The Other One (Album of the year, I.M.O.). It got over a Million views in the first 24 hours!

It reduced most Babymetal fans to tears and proved conclusively what Kobametal (Babymetals Sven like producer) realised thirteen years ago (when she was 12) that Suzuka Nakamoto AKA Su Metal has a truly incredible voice and it was nice to hear Moa to.
