So glad you liked this. She's doing all covers in the competition. I think Bruno Mars' "Grenade" has been her best. And it was on her 24th Birthday. But I am most impressed by her songwriting. Mostly the big piano ballads, like Adele does. But even "ICE", which she dropped this week, is very interesting though it is aiming at Pop fans.

@nickforell1 In Detroit, on her US Tour in 2022, they had technical difficulties right before this song. She told the keyboardist she'd be OK to go ahead. So he played, and she sang without in-ear monitors and without a microphone. It was not as stunning as this performance, but she did quite nicely and charmed the 200 people in the audience that night. I'm hoping this TV show makes her better known.

All of her performances on the show have been great! If you want to see her original material (which I highly recommend) you could start with Tears of Gold (Stripped) and Bad Dreams (Stripped). She's an incredibly talented songwriter on top of that insane voice! Looking forward to you seeing more. Btw, when Dimash performed SOS on this show in 2017, he became a Superstar in China overnight. If you have the time or inclination, I would highly recommend seeing that version of SOS. And also, the people backstage are (almost) all contestants competing with the performing artist. That should give you some context when watching more performances from this show, either in 2024 or any other year. The look on their faces in 2017 when Dimash performed. It was their first time hearing him and the reactions are priceless!

This is a Mainland China live one take, no autotune, competition for established singers... mainly Chinese with two or three off shore performers. No judges... voting is by the public and low end is eliminated, so the fact she is consistently in the top 3 says a lot. She also performs at least one Chinese song in Manderin (Devil From Heaven) and the reactions from the Chinese audience and other performers is fun to watch. She did a name brand open air concert in China while there. The Chinese audiences have dubbed her "Ya Ya" and the open air audience was packed. Hunan TV releases her performances on KZbin for all to see. You are on to a good thing here. David

Great reaction Nick! Faouzia’s one of thr best singers of her generation (she just turned 24 a couple of weeks ago). She is so versatile and there is so much more to her, would love to see you react to more of her performances on the show. My favourites include Cry my a River and Love on the Brain

No, you’re not crazy. There’s a little bit of yodeling involved in what she does. That transition between chest and head voice. In fact, it’s a big part of the type of ribs and runs that are done in Arabic music.

Actually, you’re doing, is a big part of what she does in general, even with more contemporary music.

I listened to Faouzia in 2018 on CBC's Q when she was starting to take off in her singing career. Tom Power, the host of Q, said she would be known around the world and he would watch her career. He was right. Faouzia has gone far from Manitoba and her engineering degree, and she will go further. She is really awesome.

Welcome to the fabulous world of Faouzia. This is one of the songs she shines with as she speaks Arabic and in the original from Sting he has Cheb Mami sing the Arabic portion of it. Arabic/middle Eastern music does have a 'yodel' style to it, but it is different. She is absolutely amazing! You should check out the other weeks, she starts off with Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, then Set Fire to the Rain by Adele, Desert Rose, Paparazzi by Lady Gaga, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Huston; Cry Me A River by Justin Timberlake; Love on the Brain by Rhianna; The Devil From Heaven by GEM; Grenade by Bruno Mars; Reflection (from Mulan) by Coco Lee. She has been in the top 3 every week. Adam Lambert was a guest contestant for only 1 week. When you see his full reaction to her singing he is very taken with her breathing and being able to sustain the notes. They are heading into the finals now with week 11 and 12. So, not only does she have these songs here, but she does have a multitude of her own original songs as well as some more covers. Enjoy going down the rabbit hole 😉

FWIW, she pronounces it FOE-zee-ah. Others have covered recommending other songs. She's a Moroccan born Canadian. Arabic is her first language because even though her family moved to Canada when she was a baby, they kept the language and culture at home. English is her second language. She's also fluent in French. And she has done a couple of highly credible songs in Mandarin during this competition as well. She's the only artist that remained in the top 3 each week and is now in the finale. This song was written by Sting and Cheb Rabah and originally sung by Sting and Cheb Mami. Welcome to the very deep rabbit hole of Faouzia!

If you liked this, please react to all of Faouzia's performances from the "Singer" competiton. They're just mindblowing, especially the one where she sings in Mandarin (she doesn't speak it, but learned the song in 3 days from what I've read). As for her original music, my absolute favourites recently are "Fur Elise" (live) and "What A Woman" - I'm surprised the latter isn't a smash hit as it definitely has a lot of radio potential. Faouzia deserves to conquer the world with her talent! 😊

Hiya Nick... been watching a few of your reactions today.. and loving all the Canadian content you have reacted to... and especially some of our gems like K.D. Lang and Faouzia!!! Her name is phonetically pronounced F-OH-ZEE-UH! ☺ Hope that helps!! Also... it's not offensive to call out her use of the yodel technique. If you delve into her catalogue.. you will see it's quite prevalent in her music.. and she could most definitely give a master class on how and when to use it.. without over doing it. I think it come naturally for her because of her Moroccan Arabic heritage. You will have to give her live versions of some of her hits like You Don't Even Know Me... Tears of Gold .. This Mountain... Fur Elise.. etc... too many too mention here.. and her live concert from The Burton Cumming Hall on her channel.. oh and all of her performances on the Chinese singing competition.. The Singer 2024 to really appreciate the extent of Faouzia's talent! Great reactions.. I will be back!!! Cheers from Canada 🍁

Since you mentioned Adele here is a link to Faouzia singing the song Hello when she was just 15 years old kzbin.info/www/bejne/anKcep-lr7p2h9Usi=z6VR4_TJmDT4EC2L . She just turned 24 this month. If you do another performance from this show, I'd avoid "Set Fire to the Rain" from her. For some reason, it was really uncharacteristically off for her (this seems to be a pretty popular sentiment). Anything else on the show would be great. I really enjoyed "Crazy" (Gnarls Barkley cover). "Grenade" (Bruno Mars) cover was really good too.

She actually did "set fire to the rain " in rehearsals and it was fantastic, but in the official version there were some issues at the end
@g3synth2054 ай бұрын
@@medhat8394 I saw that, and it was waaay better. I don't know if it was a technical issue (like her in-ear monitors weren't working right), or what happened, but I recommend against that performance, because I don't want someone new to her getting the wrong impression about how talented (and generally consistent) she is.
