Good reaction! I have watched several reactions to Marcelito's "The Prayer" and to hear from vocal coaches the singing techniques he applies when he sings amazes me. How could he have known these when he didn't have any voice lessons nor training at all. He listens to the singer and would sing it the way they do. It's a God-given talent and he is using it well. He now holds concerts all over the world to Filipino audiences. His life has prospered, different from being a street child from aged 7, doing odd jobs to survive until he joined Pilipinas Got Talent, aged 26. Marcelito remains humble and shares his blessings with the poor, having his own charity projects in his home country.

A good analysis. Marcelito is a self taught (via kareoke) counter tenor. He lived on the streets from the age of 7 and was working in construction when he won Filipinos Got Talent in 2011. The technique is called doble kara (double voices) in the Philippines and he is a master at it. He is currently touring Europe.

Since it is a tracked recording, he includes all of the harmonies where Bocelli and Dion sing together in harmony. You are 100% correct. Marcelito was abanded as a baby on streets.Taught himself to make his voice to “make” any sound he heard.Helped him survive. At eight he lived in his father’s jail cell……. When he was asked HOW he could do what he does? He just said “No one told me I couldn’t”. Dimash has been TRAINED from birth by two world famous opera singers.Raised wealthy.Best care,food,training…… He has ONE voice. 75% of the time one hears how strained it is. Side note: Marcelito has given more than half the money he has made with his voice to the poor street people……in the Philippines. Dimash ,ZERO ! What you heard he did while sitting.Almost impossible for what he does. Dimash has never sat while he sings. Once in a while you will see a famous singer LEAN on something,never sit.

It's not the song that people react to, it's the reaction to the singer. He may not know the song but he was able to impress to his viewers the same way who knows the song, but their first time to hear Marcelito. What would you say to most English speakers who have reacted to Dimash's songs or any foreign singers singing in their own language? Do they have to know all the songs they react to? I don't think so.
