RM did say in Festa 2022 that the kpop industry doesn't give you time to mature, you have to put out certain kinds of music. Yes they had more freedom as far as creativity is concerned but they still had to put out music at an exhausting pace. I think many of us were expecting the hard core in your face angry rap that he is known for for his new music. But he wants to show us his colors and angry rap isn't all he is. I loved this whole album and got to see so much more of what makes up RM as a person and artist.

I've always wondered about the toll the "visual" side of the industry takes, as well. What would they have done with the time if they had only been required to do just _half_ as many concept photoshoots? Sure, that is art, too, but it isn't music, and it takes so much time and energy.
@hd7704 Жыл бұрын
The irony is BTS already does music that cuts across numerous genres. Ask American pop stars if they have the freedom to make more than one change (if they're lucky and they're very, very good) in genres. American pop stars can switch genres, but in the vast majority of cases, they lose airplay and they lose audiences. So, which music industry is actually more restrictive?

Agreed. But with the politics...they have always deserved a Grammy for their work, but been Slammied!!! I think he deserves any and every music award out there to be given next year...or whatever he is eligible for. The whole album is brilliant. But this song. It's so beautiful. But it haunts me in that I feel his raw pain. I feel everything he went through. I am relatively new to BTS. February 24, 2020. I saw "On" at Grand Central Station on the Jimmy Fallon show. I had never heard of them. From that day forward I watched content every day. And I began to feel it. Their pain. They were experiencing such highs, but they had to sacrifice their whole lives to get there. Basically, very little contact with family friends or the real outside world. No real vacations. No real days off. Just work, work, and more work. They did 20 years of work in 10 years. Oh my. When youjeen joins in with her stunningly exquisite rock voice...it's almost an echo of the screams they have wanted to let out. Honestly I don't know how they did it. A long reaction....but to say I agree with you...give him an armful of Grammies. I think it would mean the most to him to win. Especially individually!

Wild Flower just seems to be one of those songs that elevates music. Hopefully other artists will follow. One of the reasons this is so popular is there isn't a lyric in here that someone can't relate to. Wildflower is so beautiful. I've been listening to it over and over and it still moves me each time. Regarding freedom and the idol industry - while yes BTS was given more artistic freedom than others in the industry, I think RM here is pertaining more broadly to other freedoms that are sacrificed with fame, especially in the case of BTS' historic rise. As the leader and often the one who has to be the spokesperson for the group (especially in the West) I think the shackles he's referring to are just the growing weight and responsibility he's had to carry. Whether it's a k-pop idol or not there's definitely a new reality to balance as a celebrity. Also, when you get the chance you really should check out RM Live in Seoul! The live version of Wildflower is awesome (the other songs too!)

I was rewatching your reaction to this video. Have you seen RM's interview with Pharell Williams? At one point he's talking about questioning who he is. He said something like 'am I a diplomat or what?' refering to him giving a speech at the UN. And he also said he had to stop for a while being the translater for the group. I think him being the leader gave him a hughe amount of stress and extra responsabilities amang the backside of fame the other members also have to endure.

Hey just wanted to let you know about “ the artistic freedom” they were taking about is not them not being able to express themselves to write and produce their song but the fact that the idol industry doesn’t let an artist have a freedom to rest and grow as an artist. Since it is really competitive after they release an album and do promote they pretty much have/ had to go back to produce the next album. It is really hard to stay in a spot light if you dare to have a break since somebody else will take the spotlight. But musically thankfully bts were kinda outsider in the kpop industry since bang pd allowed them to experiment on the field Ps sorry for my bad English.. I’m not sure if I am making sense

I think it could help them to leave as a fellow human being and also Rm did say about indigo that he finally did it how exactly he wanted. I think they did have a lot of creative freedom. But based on Festa dinner this year a few members , mainly RM,said it was hard to find that creativity due to their schedules. Suga said that when they first started as a group he had so many songs and beats but lacked the experience. But now he said he has the expertise but the lyrics/music just don’t come. They are involved in so much including games, webtoons, merchandise, corporate sponsorships, etc. etc. BTS is a business unto themselves and I think that was hard, especially for their leader RM. I have my own theory of the purple flowers at the end. (Disclaimer- not a botanist but after some research, I think they could be indigo flowers.) The flowers of the indigo plant mainly have purple or lavender flowers. Many species are found around the world. When the leaves of the plant are crushed, boiled and processed they create a beautiful blue--Indigo. And like the color indigo, this side of him had already been present beside ARMY. But when he went through the long steps of the process of being BTS, the Indigo side of him is now visible to all. Indigo and purple. Two sides of the same coin so the speak.

I like her connections! That makes a lot of sense in how he released the videos. As you saw in the album review, Still Life is only the 2nd song on the album and everyone will say to listen from beginning to end. As I was watching this video (and yeah I know I am late to the party) I started to think about the album in its entirety. I feel like the album, being his last archives of his 20s as he has said, almost goes chronologically. "Yun" is the first song and it's about being a human before being an artist. "Still Life" is second and I feel like the upbeat, modern and moving feel of the song leans into how his fame rose and the modern movement he was making with BTS. Then we go into "All Day" which talks about always fighting and being ready. The next few songs are slower and "Forgetful" leads into "Closer," which tho it is intimate in lyrics, could be considered trying to be closer to the intimate inner self that is so far away. Next, you get "Lonely" which is literally about the loneliness he feels as he travels around the world and spends so much time in hotels. "Change Pt2" is the dissonant track that could lead to the dissonance in being everywhere but nowhere at all, and we close out with "Wildflower" which has the wish to be happy and live a quiet life away from the "Hectic" (right before) life that has been up to this point. Lastly, "No. 2" talks about always moving forward and not looking back at what could have been. These are obviously just my takes in addition to what our Joonie has said in interviews and things but it makes sense! Even tho they are late, I hope you enjoyed my little theory in addition to hers!

I think you've got it totally on the nose with the "imposter syndrome" statement (and good Lord, I've heard similar things from SO MANY respected, established, successful people in my field lately, so he is NOT alone in that). That said, RM's "not a hero" theme is one he's visited many times (Ampanman is the most obvious one that comes to mind). I find it a little bit of an irony, because the name "Bulletproof Boy Scouts" was supposed to signify their desire "to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim on adolescents like bullets" (cf. J-Hope), which is... pretty darn heroic, if you ask me. And yes, RM's definitely been a hero to me. I think we already know RM is anything but shallow but Indigo is a great representation of just how deep he is. He draws on his poetic prowess to create such meaningful lyrics and weaves them into the beautiful songs he gifts to us. He is an artistic genius in so many ways which is further solidified in how manages to weave 10 different genres (chapters) in a certain order, into a cohesive story of his thoughts, feelings and experiences of his 20s. From what I understand, he wanted to do a lot of his own promotions and has done a fantastic job arranging diverse platforms on which to connect with us to talk about this masterpiece which is Indigo. He goes through and explains his thoughts processes and tells the stories behind each song. A lot is in English and most is already subbed if it isn't. Despite being the leader of the biggest music group in the world, he's incredibly humble and down to earth. We should all remember that he is Kim NamJoon the man first and RM of BTS second. We typically see RM as it is his most widespread persona. Which is why I love that they make so much content reminding us that he is, and the others are, human.

While BTS does have an atypical amount of artistic freedom for the idol industry, it is to express the group’s feelings and thoughts. The members have often talked about how they made the choice to sacrifice individuality (to some degree) for the good of the group. So, there is some limit to expressing his personal self through the group dynamic. (Not to mention that the investment of time that BTS takes which leaves little time for personal projects. He stated in an interview that that’s the reason it took 4 years to make the album.)

He did a Magazine film interview thing that goes in depth explaining all the songs, so I highly recommend checking it out, he explains it a lot better than other sources would (and the tiny desk concert he did after you've heard the album😁✌🏾💜). AND he's done a performance in New York and a small one with 200 army's in Seoul (lots of content I know😥). Also RM has said in a couple interviews now that though each song is really different from one another, the album is best listened to in order (like A to Z). So from here I think you should start with "YUN" which is the first song on the album and go from there😉👌🏾 (my top three favorite songs have to be lonely, wild flower, and still life🙄💜)

I think I understand RM saying he is no hero (or villain) it’s not because he is not proud of the good things he knows he has done. He is happy that he and his members have helped people we’ve heard his speeches about that. It’s ok if others call you a hero but not if you start calling yourself a hero .. This humbleness I think is likely part of their cultural upbringing.

Another great reaction! Thanks for checking out the explanation videos. I also picked up a lot of meaning in my own views but these helped me have a deeper understanding and appreciation.

Idk about the explanation video but RM said in the PSick interview that he made up the word Flower Work. He says it’s a cross between a flower which is an expression of something humble and soft but a firework is wild explosive so to speak. He said on stage he’s like a firework but off stage he is a flower soft and humble. That’s what all the visuals in the video are. The song is basically RM opening himself up about his struggles and insecurities as someone famous. Even tho we see him as larger than life he doesn’t see himself that’s way. He’s just a normal man who struggles with thoughts of insecurities like anyone else. But he knows he’s in the limelight. So he goes on stage and gives us RM…Once he leaves the stage he is Namjoon again.

Raising my hand as you suggested, whilst also bawling here in my living room over my morning tea despite seeing this video multiple times and streaming the album nonstop since it came out 😂 that’s the impact these honest words and melodies have on me.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. RM wrecked us bad. I cried reading the lyrics my 1st read through. Damn, RM! It hurts that he felt this way. Dang it. This brings me back to what he said at Festa Dinner. Youjeen was perfect. Don't know her but she sounded great. I look forward to learning more about her. She is a 45yo rock singer. She is part of a band. They are legends in Korea. By the way he did a live on Weverse too. Not the live i was expecting. 😅Hope u can react to that as well. U can watch it here they posted it. He also did an interview and I'll bet we will get behind the scenes so u can watch that and find out more info. This is my fav song. I've heard a few and they are not catchy to me. I need to hear the full album still. Lots of connections with older songs. Appreciate u watching the explanation vid. It was my 1st watch of it. So it looks like this 18 month military is exactly what he needs. It's a break for him to be like everyone else and get some much needed rest. Borahae. Happy Holidays!🎄 -NY USA 2019 Army💟 We shouldn't forget what Namjoon said : INDIGO is his diary of his 20's (of those 4 years)He said this album is born from his feelings at that time. 😭 This ALBUM gives us an insight on HOW namjoon felt during those years. Teresa Nike said on 12/2/22 When I watched the Festa dinner I felt this break was more for RM . The whole group needs it to find themselves but I felt RM needed more and to go back to being Kim Nam-Joon then he can come back to being RM with a renewed energy . I think he saying he lost his identity people only think of him as RM , he had to only think of RM and BTS but that not the only part of him he is Kim Nam-Joon as well, he can be both people. That's what I got from it. I could be way off though. It's a beautiful and powerful song. So proud of him. CG. said on 12/3/22 On his MV 3:03 that's what you call "Nakhwanori" or Traditional Korean Firework festival. Joon wants to pay tribute to the Traditional Koreans who still does this. The 'Nakhwa nori' festival is a traditional fireworks display that is held in May to pray for the well-being and good year of the people. Joon clarified that is not CGI, he has to close his eyes most of the time because it's dangerous for the eyes. Hope you see this comment. Alix DriftwoodDragons said on 12/3/22 I thought it was brilliant the way he was able to capture the fact that "flower" and "firework" are the same/similar in Korean by inventing the English word "flowerwork" ... and just the whole theme of Fireworks (high in the sky, burning brightly but brief) vs wildflowers (on the ground, blooming repeatedly, able to survive harsh conditions) was brilliantly done. Youjeen's voice is AMAZING, she's the lead vocal on a Korean rock band called Cherry Filter - and those rock vocals are so well used here. It's such an emotional song. Good reaction, ty. Love the fit and makeup. Cute song. Interesting concept. Love the title track way more though. So Anderson .Paak is the lead singer of Silk Sonic. They are a famous band that works with Bruno Mars. Anderson .Paak's wife and son are army so he learned about BTS through them. He is now army too. He collabed with BTS on Proof Live he was the featured drummer artist on Yet to Come. They love him and his group. They saw his concert. Great collab. Still Life is growing on me. Watching the Explanation by Bookish Theories for the 1st time too. Love how she connected the 2 songs. Such a brilliant idea. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

I think you'd like his *rm live in Seoul* where he sings few of his indigo songs accompanied by some of the artists he collaborated with and ends it with 2 of his songs( not from the album)

This entire album is a complete masterpiece, from the poetry of the lyrics to the conceptual flow of the songs from track 1 through track 10. He's brilliant, and his creativity has been inspiring. His words have helped me. I agree with you when you say that he's a hero but doesn't realize it. I don't have enough words to express how much I love, respect and admire RM as a person and as an artist. We're very lucky to be able to witness music like this.

Namjoon has a way of putting his thoughts dreams and feelings into such deep lyricism.. This man amazes me every time... This album is just so good, my favorites are change pt2, lonely and all day then wildflower.. Borahae💜💜💜💜 this album is like a diary of himself during his twenties. I agree with what you said, he sings about how he wanted all those dreams to come true but then it becomes a trap where he loses himself💜

I hadn't watched the Bookish Explained for these, so that was a treat. Thanks for including them! These MVs and songs are so great, so much meaning, but personally Wildflower is my favorite even though it breaks my heart. I hate how much he's struggled, and I know some things will be a lifelong struggle. RM is definitely inflicted with imposter syndrome and always has been. I relate so hard. I had a thriving business and self-sabotage it because imposter syndrome just ate me alive. I'm grateful Namjoon is sharing so much with us, willing to be so vulnerable and real.

When I first watched Wildflower I went over to Weverse and wrote for RM, however you need to move forward, I support your choice. Whether he just wants to go back to writing poetry or not be leader, be solo, m we got his bac, how could we not. So far it is my favorite on the album. Other than Still Life, I haven't paid close enough attention to the other songs. Visulizer sounded pretty cool, I listen will working, so it didn't allow a deep dive yet.

You should check RM Indigo Album Magazine Film, it's on their chanel Bangtantv. Namjoon talks about every song on his album and explains their meaning. It's very insightful and I love listening about his process of writing and making music. I appreciate that other people tries to introduce BTS, either as a group or soloists, to new people but I'll allways think that's better to listen to their own words and not what other people suppossed they have said

Hey John! I appreciate you taking the time to look at explanation videos.. but I honestly wish for Indigo you'd first watch RM's own explanation/behind stories in his Indigo Album Magazine Film (in bangtantv) before going to fanmade theories. RM also explains his album in many other occasions, such as his interview with Zach Sang. Maybe for next reaction? Still, thanks for reacting to RM!
