Morrissey is one of the greatest songwriters ever. Haunting voice

There is an old English saying of " forever carrying a torch " for someone that you will love forever. In essence, that is the meaning of the song, a light that will never go out.

I'm in my fifties and remember the Smiths from my time at university in the 1980s when they were hugely popular among students. I believe this song is requested at funerals quite often as it is very moving . I hope you will look into some other Smiths songs for intelligent lyrics and excellent guitar work. One of the most thought provoking of bands. Thank you for your excellent review.

The anthem of the disaffected, isolated youth, searching for that one perfect moment of acceptance and belonging. The haunting voice of Morrissey as he sing-songs "There is a light that never goes out," like the nursery rhymes of a child's game.

There can never be such a genius lyricist like Morrisey. His understanding of how many people feel about life and love is so accurate it is untrue. And Johnny Marr's guitar playing is that of a savant.

LOL @ "So peppy!". It's a talent and skill of The Smiths and The Cure to disguise some of the most sad and even morbid lyrics behind a pop or peppy beat/song. This is moreso with the Cure. It's hard to find a happy Cure song when you break down the lyrics. When you said, "So peppy" I smile real big and thought, "Oh, just wait", lol. And yep, you got it! Love your reactions, subbed for sure. Cheers and have a legit peppy day.

A whole generation of us grew up on The Smiths/Morrissey. My favorite is a ballad called "I Know It's Over" off of that same album. But if you want some additional songs as the one you heard try, Bigmouth Strikes again or The Boy with the Thorn in his Side.

Yeeeeesssss! One of my favourite songs. Most Smiths songs have a sardonic quality to them. Girlfriend In A Coma, Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now....

The Smiths are so underrated. I was a freshman in college when this album came out. I played this album all the time. My favorite Smiths album overall is Louder Than Bombs. Great assortment of lyrics and music. The Smiths are/were amazing.

What made them great . Morrissey is an incredible song writer up their with the very best add to that the genuis of marrs guitar playing and the overlooked bass playing of andy rouke (rip ) his bass player is so underatted like mccartney before him their top notch .

The Queen is Dead might be a good one to listen to "I said Charles, don't you ever crave To appear on the front of the Daily Mail Dressed in your mother's bridal veil?"

The character in the song had nothing left but their partner. Probably a broken home situation. Or a coming out went wrong. That happens a lot irl. The character clearly had depression at some level, and that's why they would be content with death as long they are with their loved one.

I absolutely love this song. We all have to die someday, so it would be nice to die by your loved one (at an old age preferably) simultaneously so neither of you has to live without the other. I think about that a lot.

Hi Ash. You might be confused by this song but it kind of sums up the great strengths of the Smiths - joyful music and sad/romantic/melancholy lyrics. I would recommend virtually everything The Smiths ever did but try Handsome Devil, Back To The Old House and the one you mentioned Stop Me If You Think That You'vve Heard This One Before

Nice reaction. The Smiths have a special place in my heart. If I might make a suggestion; why don't you do a reaction to their song Panic? Also, if you haven't already, why not give The Cure a spin? I'd suggest Plainsong off of their masterful album Disintegration.

17 U.S. Code § 107 - Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use (superfluous language removed for brevity) ...the fair use of a copyrighted work...for purposes such as criticism, comment, scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include; (1)the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes; (99.9% of YT users will automatically be denied on this first ''test'') (2)the nature of the copyrighted work; (3)the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; (4)the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. To win a claim of ''fair use'' one must prevail on all four of these ''tests''. You can spot words and phrases added to the ''Copyright Disclaimer'' to influence and for effect. The last two sentences imply the thief isn't really intending to steal someone elses property to enrich themselves (when that is exactly what they are doing) and also implies the thief has the power to grant rights guaranteed to the property owner under the constitution and state law. It's a joke written by someone in a basement with a free Internet ''make your own contracts'' program. It's embarrassing.
